Think about this horrors of this job, and being the unlucky 012 district officer (perhaps even someone working CHA overtime) who had to respond to the no-win situation call. It's nothing involving fetality either; they had no choice. You can already forsee a lawsuit stemming from this for one, shooting the offender (probably someone off-meds because that's the new catch-all for criminals); and two, the offender shooting the victim. Hopefullt a camera captured this incident and exonerates the P/O

I saw Tony Google out and about, maybe
3-4 weeks ago when it was a little warm out.
He was riding his red Schwinn. He told all us
kids that he's gonna grow up to be a cop and
get his own car. He says his dad is teaching him
responsibility by wiping down the bike with damp
paper towels; side walls, tires, spokes, and chrome.
(all the kids are the age where they sorta admire him
'cause he got a Schwinn, but we sorta don't really like him).

I realize that Anthony Guglielmi is probably not a language expert, but an altercation is a dispute or quarrel. It implies blame on both sides. Why not, "the suspect was shot while resisting arrest" or "the suspect was shot while being pursued by police"? In other words, the official view should be that the police are acting professionally and the suspect has done something bad to warrant attention. Why would that not be the official view?

olice in McHenry County will be out for blood with drivers who refuse to take breath tests for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Nine departments in the northwest suburban county announced they will seek immediate search warrants during traffic stops to draw blood from suspected drunken or drugged drivers who refuse to blow for a breath test.
The new policy is meant to counter drivers, particularly repeat DUI offenders, who increasingly refuse breath tests, which makes it more difficult to prosecute them, McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally said in a news release.
Starting Sunday, police in Algonquin, Cary, Harvard, Huntley, Johnsburg, Lake in the Hills, McHenry, Spring Grove and Woodstock will institute the new policy.

Woodstock police Chief John Lieb said in the release that the policy will deter some people from driving while impaired.

While DUI suspects face severe civil penalties if they refuse a breath test — like driver’s license suspensions — police generally can't force a suspect to submit to a blood test.

Any confirmation to the rumor that the private security force, who on-viewed/initiated the whole incident, refused to cooperate with the assigned detectives until they had legal representation?

If true, it's totally believable. I work Special Employment there regularly... the "Special Police" private security firm that is assigned there are nothing but trouble. They routinely try to find shit to dump in CPD's lap, always escalating even the most mundane situations and then calling for us to bail their punk asses out. Those fuckers need to be totally ostracized and left to deal with their own problems if what I'm hearing from cohorts in Area Central has any truth to it. I'll be taking the slow roll to any assist call for those cocksuckers from now on. That's a promise in the event any of you West Haven Wannabes monitor this POLICE blog.

As far as the shoot itself? 100% good. There are some things that even the most fetal officer cannot avoid. Failing to take action with one victim shot and another pistol-whipped with the armed offender still on the premises isn't the same thing as a handwaver while driving by at 30 mph.

I'll reiterate what 12:42 AM said: PO is OK, and that's all that matters. He got to go home to his wife and beautiful children in the same condition in which he arrived for work. That's the ONLY outcome that matters.

Great job, Sarge.

Just a reminder for all of you. If you are ever involved in a shooting immediately contain the scene and look for the first opportunity to deactivate your camera. Until it is ordered turned off by a supervisor, shut the duck up. Tell the zone and you peers who you are looking for, tell them if you are I hired and order an ambulance for yourself or your partner if necessary, and another one for the offender, or let everyone know you are alright. Then shut up. Don't talk out loud to anyone but you supervisor and the detective. No one else. Stay off you personal phones. Make one call home to tell them your going to be late today and then turn it off. No other calls, no other texts. Don't make any and don't answer any. For other officers on the scene, also shut the fuck up. Talking among each other while you camera is running provides additional what-if scenarios for the know nothings who will be armchair quarterbacking, for the next few years.

In fact, he was taken to the Watch Lt's car where he was seen by a paramedic and then taken to Rush. The Lt was adamant over the radio that his officer needed to go to the hospital. The crime scene was handled very professionally by all involved. Thank God Lt P wasn't the one in charge.

The armed feral offender, a repeated violent feral offender will receive less if any at all consequence for his latest action.
Third party call. The uncooperative victim called a friend (not the untrusted polices).
This case will go nowhere and perhaps a Rahm Settlement by years end.
Felony Review...what was their take?
I-Bondable no doubt, downplayed to domestic misdemeanors.

Yet The COPRAH is licking their chops.
How many violations can that lodge against the entire responding cavalcade?
As of 1630 hrs, nobody knows yet how many additional witnesses they found.

Because you can not just shoot anyone who resists or flees. Saying something as vague as that would cause more problems. There has to be an immediate threat to your life or the lives of others. That is what needs to be conveyed to the public but the media simply will not do this as it does not fit into their agenda. We all know the medias game. They remove any and all possible responsibility from the offender and cast doubt on the officers decision even so far as to hint at some sort of racial bias or hate as the actual reason for the shooting. Any statements made, even with a solid basis in facts and evidence would be challenged by the media to further their own agenda no matter how ridiculous the challenge would be (hands up don't shoot incited riots and nationally portrayed the police as straight up murders of minorities). They hype up any incident with half truths, inferences, and yellow journalism to cast doubt on even the most solid shooting incident. It stirs the pot and actually creates more "news" as they cover the public outrage and possible riots that is usually in response to their own stirring of the proverbial pot. It all sells news and gives the illusion that they are relevant, righteous, and necessary as some sort of "watch dogs" standing between us and the poor citizens that the evil police department preys upon.
I get the gist of where you were going with your thought but details matter. If you are an officer, do yourself a favor and have someone else look at any serious paperwork before you submit it. "I shot him because he was resisting (or fleeing)" is far too vague and going to cause you a lot of grief.

Shooting someone fleeing has its elements. Armed Felon, Unarmed Felon, person fleeing with a weapon, escapee (like prison, lock-ups) and there's more. Don't confuse the snow flakes anymore than they are. I wouldn't trust some of the new Detectives to help you during a police shooting. Maybe I'm wrong, but the question is how many have they investigated and what was the outcome. Hopefully you can abstract the incident and stick to you narrative, with the help of a seasoned Supervisor and Detective.
