Failed Carjacking
- Carjackers targeted a black BMW in the Ashburn neighborhood Friday morning, but what they didn’t know was the driver of the SUV was an armed off-duty Chicago police officer.
The officer exchanged gunfire with the suspects, but they got away.
Witnesses said the off-duty officer was stopping at his regular barbershop at 79th and Hamlin to get a haircut, but before he could get out of his car, three suspects jumped in.
No one hit as of last report, but stay aware ladies and gentlemen - it's everywhere.

Years ago, an Officer by the name of Ahern had an incident in the same area of 79th Street. He had balls of steel. A salute to Officer Ahern!

Oops! Rockwell is not in the same general area as Hamlin, but Officer Ahern still had balls of steel on 79th Street in the midst of a snowy night in February 1984. Three offenders tried to kill him, but he put down one and wounded two. One of the two wounded Officer Ahern, but he survived. Again, a salute to Officer Ahern and a thanks to the heavens that the Officer at 79th and Hamlin was not wounded or worse.
When it becomes common to read....what they didn't know was that they'd end up shot fucking dead bang dead.....that's when it will be worthy of note.
Off duty....On duty....ya got a gat...fucking use it.....and hit what you're aiming at.....after all.....this is the fucking purpose of being an American.....the Right to Self Defense is Absolute....make it clear whenever opportunity knocks....

Carjacking should be a victimless crime. Let them have the damn car. it is just a hunk of metal and insured. A car is not worth the life of anyone. Run, run away.
When the police are not safe in the city they are
employed by, anarchy is at our doorstep.
The three hijackers clearly made an economic
decision to target the BMW, but totally failed in
their demographic assessment, clearly ruling out
that a police officer could be the operator of such
a vehicle.
These are crimes of opportunity. A high value
vehicle was targeted under the assumption it
was operated by a wealthy cream puff of an
individual. The criminals found out otherwise.
How can the public be safe and protected when
the police themselves are subjected to the very
same crimes in their off duty hours? What exactly
is this FBI task force doing in Chicago other than
using the duty time as a paid vacation?
The FBI is corrupted from the top down by a certain
small percentage of individuals. I suggest you bring
this to the attention of President Trump, an individual
who is all too familiar with corruption inside the FBI.
He would be shocked to learn this is happening in
Chicago, a city currently hosting an FBI frat boy party.

Glad the officer is ok. Poor choice of car to drive in the City. Unfortunately, in this environment you are forced to drive something that does not stand out. My business takes me all through Chicago neighborhoods(commercial real estate appraiser). I am an out of state licensed concealed carry holder. I see these Dindu's all the time just hanging around looking for a victim. My head is constantly on a swivel, especially at intersections, stoplights and when I exit my car (Chevy Cruze Diesel with a six speed stick). I get my assignments done and get the hell out of Dodge. I schedule my inspections between 6:30am and 10:00am. Clients don't like it but my safety is important. I always conceal carry a handgun on me even though for me it is not legal. Occasionally depending on the neighborhood I am going into, (Englewood, Austin) I also own and wear a ballistic vest. This is why the passage of National Concealed Carry is so important.
I thank God I don't live in Chicago (I live in rural Indiana). I always laugh when I appraise a million $ plus house in Lincoln Park at the arrogant assholes who buy them and when I walk out of the house with a realtor, builder or owner, and see some stew bum on the sidewalk in front panhandling for money or looking for a victim, and then these people turn away or then comment how "vibrant and diverse" the City is. That is what they get for $20,000+ real estate taxes per year. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your blog.

30 rounds per year? Pathetic. I train several times per year, 50-100 rounds each time. Train to win the fight.
Just because the department only gives you 30 rounds a year is no excuse to not go to the range and practice. Your life and that of your partner or family may depend on it. Been retired almost 10 years and I put 100 rounds down range this week. It's not that expensive to visit a range and make sure your weapons work and you can hit what you're aiming at. If you carry a weapon it's the least you can do for yourself is be proficient with it.

Police and gun owners (legal gun owners) should get a break on their auto insurance policies.

Just a quick note, at the time the department was in the process of firing Ahern. The EX-Task Force Officer Ahern stood his ground that day. After the incident, now the department is dealing with a hero, the rest is history. The barber shop shooting and the three offenders is another incident and I'm glad the Officer is alright. Lastly, Ahern did it with a snubby, I just wonder about the new coppers and their 9mm with 17 shot and all. Learn how to use what you have, the three assholes getting away is troubling.
