193 New Graduates

  • After welcoming 193 new Chicago police recruits, Superintendent Eddie Johnson spoke at the City Club about new reforms for the police department.

During a speech, Johnson revealed that later this year the department will launch an early warning program to identify officers struggling with issues at home or on the job.

"This early detection and intervention will not only protect the emotional and physical health of our officers, it will also protect the community to ensure their officers are acting professionally in their capacity on the street," Johnson said.
Well, seeing as how everyone and their brother has a new agency to second-guess coppers months, even years after the fact, it's little wonder the stress levels have gone up around the Department.

It's also leading to record levels of "disengagement" from the "community."

Anyone else hear that is losing 30 percent manpower this summer? Supposedly 30 percent of the unit is going to be sent to the revamped summer mobile program for the 90 days. Only rumor, I’m not saying it’s gospel. Just makes sense given the info that summer mobile is getting a south, central and downtown/lakefront unit this year with 500 bodies in all. South at 61st and Racine, central in 009 and the downtown/lakefront pulling out of both 018 and 001.

Record levels of disengagement with the public... Well put.. We police only want to talk to people that are already proven friends, not the public in general. We do not trust the city and we do not trust the politically connected bosses that run this city. Only the geek on 3rd watch in 025, the goof who was given the Diversey foot post because he is such a mush, is believing the bs. The Diversey Dork takes pride in kissing 💋 the commanders ass via positive community interaction bullshit, and gives names along with it. Its revolting to hear what is supposed to be a man, and a policeman, lick boots and force everyone else to listen. He is neither man nor police.🍻

(OT) Wow under rahm another stabbing, women walking in this heavily "yuppie" many young kids moving here paying exorbitant taxes and fees and then this:

Woman grabbed from behind, stabbed while walking to Fullerton Red Line station

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-woman-attacked-20180412-story.html

A woman was walking to the Fullerton Red Line station Tuesday night when a man grabbed her from behind and stabbed her repeatedly, Chicago police said.

The 21-year-old woman was walking east around 10:50 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Webster Avenue in the Sheffield Neighbors neighborhood when the man grabbed her neck and put her in a choke hold, police said in a community alert.

He stabbed her several times in the upper body, police said.

The woman was stabilized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The attacker never spoke to the woman and she didn’t know she was being followed, the alert said. He wore a black hoodie and black baggy pants, and was 5 feet, 9 inches tall.

Anyone with information can call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.

*Another of "rahms values" slash transit attack, gee whiz golly do you think this was another mental "homeless" you know that when rahm closed so many mental health centers they now wander to maim and kill! Ahh go ahead Lincoln liberals be the sheep keep voting democratic and let the political elite pander to the very thugs and of course the illegal invaders that violate so many laws and the elected obviously support lawlessness as they catch and release so many, and even then Tommy dart gives them pizza parties!

Surprised rahms lapdog media even reports it, but then again no description of course must be the "black problem" right? Dont say I am racist because when your "keeping it real" it is realism big difference they are out of control!

But wait Kenny Griffin extremely rich guy just handed rahm "10 million dollars" for policing which he will quickly shit away and use to purchase things that he of course gets the old reliable "campaign donations" for like cameras which as everyone knows are after the stabbing, the murder, the bloodshed where they can say "I think it is him" and then if it is he gets arrested and the judges get the call and the felon is back out to continue killing and maiming! Ahh rahm how about using that for more bodies on the street no not the "dead people of warm weather" Nope nada more police hire hire hire idiot!

Said all that to say this just got back from New York rode their transit bus and trains, so many coppers everywhere talked to a transit copper was told "You guys in chicago have a total shit show" which is true they have over 5,000 just transit coppers we have what maybe 80? The federal government gives hundreds of millions to transit who does rahm give it to? And zero federal investigations!

The color I choose is blue and blue matches blue so we protect blue first and always!

That might be true, but the academy is packed. Around 700. Have 3 neighbors who have kids in the academy. No space left. Some are taking classes in lunchroom, others have no home room or lockers and earlier this year another had to work 4-12 until room opened up

there is not going to be 1000 more cops. chicago does not have the money to fund 100 more cops. might be able to fund at more or less current levels but with the pension payments that are due I would expect to see overall levels of city employment to drop across all departments. that is the only way the city can afford to make the pension payments. keep in mind it is not just the police pension fund that is in the hole. all the city employee pension funds are in trouble.

IIRC, the city has something close to $40 billion worth of unfunded pension liability in its four employee pension plans. The city is required to fully fund these plans I think by 2045 which would amount to about an extra $1.5 billion a year just to pay for pensions that they already owe for. The city's budget is about $10 billion a year. Just where do you think an extra 15% is going to come from? You really think that the city can raise taxes that much without chasing even more people out?

We already have the Employee Assistance Program, which I think does a great job. However, they were never properly manned and funded, which made their services difficult to obtain at times. What is going to be different now if there's a new program? You still have to spend the money for it, and its worth it.

perhaps I can answer your question.

not many places you can get an entry job that pays 48 grand to start with a bump to 72 grand after a year and a half. and that is with paid training.

not to mention the very generous fringe benefits that private sector employees can only dream about.

and basically the only requirement is a 2 year degree. if you cannot get a 2 year degree these days you should starve anyway.

There will be 1000 more by the end of the year. It was a campaign promise Rahm made and his opponents are closely watching. He has to and will keep this campaign promise
As far as the city not having any money, they always say that, but when something happens, the money comes from somewhere. Also with the additional PPO’s starting at $46,0000 they will be replacing most of the OT which has been exploding g be cause of the shortage of manpower. Kick the can down the road as the politicians say. PPO’s don’t get OT, just CU so this summer all those RDO’s that were cancelled won’t be necessary because the time and a half pi’s will be replaced with lower paid PPO’s who get no OT pay
Think short term not pensions 25 years from now. Rahm is worried about the next election, he won’t be around in 2045 when the pension money comes do.

An honest answer is that no one really knows.

What happened in Harvey, IL a few days ago where 40% of the police and fire department was laid off largely to pay for pensions suggests one answer.

The problem is that the longer a real solution is put off makes the ultimate end game even worse for everyone.

The extra billion and a half dollars a year that would be needed to be raised in taxes and put into employee pension plans to shore them up properly is not exactly something anyone wants to see. but that is the magnitude of the problem.

I fully Understand why anyone working in this current political environment would hesitate to do any proactive police work. However, i can’t help but resent those tin star, hat band hangin, fop medallion sporting, story telling at parties, dog asses with time on the job. You were dog asses when times were good and police enjoyed public and political support and your dog asses now. Only difference is that now you’ve got a social and political climate that allows you to rationalize the guilt you’ve always felt for being the lazy dogass piece of shit you’ve always been...or maybe not, when you have no integrity it’s difficult to feel shame.

I’ve gotta to live here for about 10 more years and I’m not ready to surrender my community to the shitbirds. Just as Rome fell...so did Englewood and Marquette Park and Austin, suburbs of Evanston and Oak Park are next. I’m paraphrasing but I think the saying goes “Evil prevails when good men do nothing”. Just do the job you get paid to do, nothing more, nothing less. It’ll go a long way toward protecting the value of your property until you can flee this liberal cesspool at the very least
