Wrong

  • Over 300 more Cook County employees were laid off Friday due to budget cuts, ABC 7 has learned.

Officials with the Cook County Sheriff's Office said 77 people were laid off from the department, including deputies and high ranking department members.
Politics is raising its ugly head though:
  • Over 100 employees with the Cook County Courts are part of the layoff, but a temporary court order has put those layoffs on hold.
And guess what they blame?
  • In November, the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a $5.2 billion budget that included the layoffs of 321 people and the elimination of 1,017 vacant positions to make up for the $200 million in revenue lost when the sweetened beverage tax was repealed.
The sweetened beverage tax was NEVER going to generate anything close to $200 million, just based on the receipts that leaked out from retailers. Not only that, it was costing the County tens of millions in additional sales tax revenue as people shopped elsewhere.

Furthermore, if Prickwrinkle hadn't spent the $200 million prior to actually, you know, collecting it, she might have had a better handle on her budgetary process.

And what's this "elimination of 1,017 vacant positions" to help balance the budget? If they were unfilled, then those salaries weren't being spent, right? Let's do a little math:
  • 1,017 spots, at an average salary of $50,000 is just over $50 million.
  • This being Cook County, the average salary is more likely in the $75,000 range, meaning over $76 million wasn't paid out.
  • A couple of websites we checked out says that salary is around 68% of the compensation costs - Insurance accounts for another 31%. That's another $36 million that wasn't paid in for insurance for non-existent employees.
$112 million in savings just by eliminating 1,017 spots THAT WERE ALREADY VACANT and not costing you a thing? So what was the purpose of a $200 million tax hike when $88 million would have been fine?

Welcome to the wonderful world of political accounting - where you spend money you haven't collected, save money you never spent, and charge the taxpayers almost 150% of what you "need" to get by.

Was reading Sheriff blog and it stated Dart has laid-off 681 officers since taking office. The kicker was he is still getting 100 million more in funding than the former Sheriff before him. The jail poulation is down 45%. What is he doing with all this funding? Why not a federal audit looking into this. Dart will go down as the most incompetent Sheriff in history no matter how the media tries to spin it.

Preckwinkle spokesperson said the Sheriff is to blame for the soda tax. 50 million in suits paid since 2015 and Darts Merit Board mess hasn't even hit taxpayers yet. Not to mention the 78 million in ot costs at the jail cause the sheriff has created such a hostile work environment everyone calls off.

They are laying off sheriff's deputies? I sure they could have found others, less crucial, to lay off because Cook County is ripe with patronage workers among the over 22,000 people who work for the County. Two places to start would be Clerk of the Court Dorothy Brown's office and Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios' office. Both have been riddled with scandal for years. Also take away all department heads who have chauffeurs and cars. They can drive downtown in their own cars or take the Metra or CTA like everyone else. They don't need a car for a downtown job. Think of the money to be saved and all of the parking spots that would become a available. And ban all politicians from having their photos hanging in government offices and public areas. Think of the cost for that, the cost for the photographer, costs for the picture frame, and the costs for the union carpenter to mount the picture frames. There are thousands of these in government building. Their sense of grandeur is appalling. Do the taxpayers want them to have all this?

FEDS YOU READING THIS> TOM DART SAYS YOU GUYS SUCKED LONG BEFORE TRUMP

link
https://crookcountysheriff.blogspot.com/2018/01/dart-mocks-illinois-state-police-feds.html

Dart mocks Illinois State police, Feds, and the Justice Department.. Says every jail in the country is emulating what he is doing..

Dart says every jail/federal prison in the country is emulating what he's doing without giving him the credit.. He claims Use of Force and violence is significantly down in his jail.

Thanks tipster for sending us these videos. First video Dart says he would rather have less employees than more while giggling to his liberal audience. He also says the Feds and Justice department were incompetent long before the Trump administration.

Start at 57 minute mark of video during Q&A where Dart mocks the Feds and the Justice department while saying he would rather have less employees a few minutes later..

In the Second Video Dart mocks State Police at 23 minute mark of video... Sheriff Dart thinks all the law enforcement institutions around him are just stupid.. The first video was a month before Dart's infamous domestic 911 call to his home. Perhaps the Feds may want to look into that now!

Same with CPD......way too many bosses at the top..collecting their Big Bucks.......mostly merit (aka political) hirees to entice the "community" into believing that "Da Mayor" has their back, that he will control the big, bad, street copper.....that the police are the problem for all their ills....
Same with the City government......too many bosses at the top collecting their Big Bucks......why are there 50 alderman collecting paychecks, million dollar "spend as you like" accounts to each one, staff and offices for each one, paid for by only 35% of the city that actually pays the damn taxes?
With 320 million people in this country, to have 140+ million "on the dole" is unfathomable.......no city, county, state, country can survive if only half are paying their own way......

A little off topic: Everyone says you have to put your PAC money behind the right candidate? What PAC money, we dont have enough money in our PAC to impact many elections on a local level. We need to building our PAC to compete in elections and i hope the FOP and other municipal labor entities do this or band together. What is more important than money is getting others outside of your group to vote for someone that supports your interest. For us its not the Mayoral race. It is the Aldermanic, States Attorney and Judicial races. Lets start now and make no endorsements in the upcoming elections other than races that can help Police. Its up to the FOP to interview these candidates, but it is up to us to get involved in getting them elected. That means not only financial help but physical help. We have the 2nd floor open at the Lodge that can be used as a phone bank staffed by our members and their families. The calls would only go out to Police families and friends by Police family. When the Alderman and State Attorney candidates see the impact we have on a race they will know that our endorsement comes with results. Votes translate into influence, influence translates into policy support and policy translate into our job getting better. The FOP should be actively looking at Alderman in their Ward. We should be helping to recruit opponents to the Alderman that go against our interest. You want a good contract, then start to get involved in getting the people we need in office. Judges are the start. Get some non slated candidates elected to the bench and watch Cook County Democratic Committee say what the fuck just happened.

This is off topic but the call by a young officer for advice from older seasoned officers resonated with me. To such officers you should seek out advice from an FTO, an instructor at the CPD Academy, or contact training coordinators at the Chicago HIDTA office or even better the FBI which has a robust training program for state and local police officers. They offer a cornucopia of courses ranging from patrol tactics, to legal issues in law enforcement, and even considerations with respect to the use of lethal force. Many of these guys are former coppers or state troopers so they understand your perspective and have your best interests at heart. Some of our older or more seasoned officers unfortunately have not been able to transition to modern policing methods and theory. I took a tactical course sponsored by a major federal agency and learned how to effectively deploy a rifle under the proper circumstances and when to not deploy it!

What "high ranking" Sheriff layoffs?

Dart recruited many Chicago political police - SAO friends and staffed the bloated command positions with those do-nothing pals.

Sheriff deputies, court services, Jail, are all political now and it is an ongoing fight between deputies on whose clout is more powerful, (and money) as far as getting cushy assignments and rank.

What’s next? In December they say to expect more layoffs. Their is only about 700ish deputies including all on duty injury, disability and suspended. Authorized strength use to be 1,400. They eliminated all those empty deputy spots. And want to lay off more.

This is a prime example of the thinking that has made cook county and Illinois the worst state in the nation. Tax the people with a hopeful revenue generating tax to fix a hole in the budget, all the while not even knowing if it will work. They never consider a decrease in spending and waste as a solution. Check out the jail. It's at it lowest population ever and still dropping. Buildings are being closed, but still the same budget and enormous command staff. Why?

Preckwinkle recently hired about 20 new people to the highway department while laying off county workers. She could eliminate the Forest Preserve Police and save a ton of money. Plus she has all these bodyguards and about 5 SUVs assigned just to her. You would think she could find more to cut in her own budget. She is pissed off at Dart and is targeting his employees. Just laid off a bunch of clout heavy people from Madigan's ward. As soon as cuts were announced, the clout phone calls started to come in. Maybe Dart can cut some of the 200 lawyers he has hired, who screw up the whole department. Dart has no idea what is going on and allows his attorneys to run this department and come up with all these new rules. The unions need to step up and demand an audit of this department. With no opposition for Dart he can do what he wants. He is either totally out of touch with his department and its operations, or he just doesn't care.

You can't be serious. If he "visits" it's not to play cards with your brother and see how the food is. If real is COs being afraid to put their hands on hostile and confrontational inmates, paying for sex change hormone treatment, putting offenders in gun cases (and more violent cases) on the anklet...seriously, whatever your angle is just cool it.

Privatizing the city janitors was a good thing. At least now the station gets cleaned, floors are mopped, and garbage taken out. When we had city janitors in 025, all they would do is hide in their office or sleep somewhere. Maybe mop the floor once a week.

Alot more can be privatized and waste cut in government.

1/07/2018 03:34:00 PM

A lot more can be privatized and the increased graft in the trough can feed even more hogs.

Fixed it for you.

=============================================================================

I am going to start repeating the City mantra that crime is down in 2017!!!
If Rahm and his propagandists in the media want to shovel out BS, we should give credit to the only thing that changed in 2017 as opposed to the previous years shitshows?
Thank you Donald Trump for saving Chicago!!!
Giving Trump credit for the non-existent drop would drive Rahm crazy

Nobody is asking the right question. The real bloat with Cook County is why the county health care system takes 2.5 billion to run a hospital. Why don't they have a management company come in and runit efficiently.

Apparently CPD got rid of all White poleece bosses and replaced them with computers. Hal uh loo ya!

I took a tactical course sponsored by a major federal agency and learned how to effectively deploy a rifle under the proper circumstances and when to not deploy

Soooooo ask an FTO with 2-4 years on the job or a clouted academy instructor who never worked the street??? Great idea dumb dumb

The guy who wrote about privatizing the janitors in 025 must be either a FNG (that’s fucking new guy for all you FNGs) or a janitor in 025. Yeah, great move except for the fact that background checks either weren’t done or poorly done. We had convicted felons “working in the station, locker rooms, and D-Unit.

I remember when Daily got rid of the Civilian desk aides, union janitors at the station and the union city workers at the airport. They privatized all the janitors under the save money bull crap. Now the company for all the privatization makes lots of money. Works make shit. Screw the DemocRATS.

What are you talking about? BIg companies make big $$$, but 'trickle down' doesn't really trickle. That is the Republican way, as the CEO of Papa John's Pizza!

That is now big business works. Who do you think changes those sheets and cleans those rooms in those overpriced Trump hotels? Who picks the grapes at the Trump wineries in Napa Valley? GUEST WORKERS, that's who!

President Trump created tons of jobs, so let them get off of their Political Hack asses and find a different job. They're just Brown Clowns anyways.

In at least some cases, the vacant positions were intended to be filled, and now aren't. I'm aware of an office that is stretched pretty thin.

Look, the thing is that Preckwinkle actually forced cuts. There's no way the Toddler or his dad or George Dunn or even Phelan Dick would have done that. They would have figured out a way to raise some other tax. Rahm has never tried to cut expenses in any significant way. Quinn didn't do it at the state level. And none of those people forced government employees to work either.

Preckwinkle is different. She's not just any old Democrat.

You hate her policy on the jail. That's fine. I tend to agree. But you need to give credit where it's due. She has held a line on expenses, and she forces people to work. Things aren't perfect at the county, but they're a hell of a lot better.

Frankly, if you had your way and ousted her, she'd almost certainly be replaced by someone a hell of a lot less honest.

Mother of God who’s the assclown defending Preckwinkle above?! State your name, job and the ward you live in so we can see why....she’s either your juice or you’re a white, liberal, naive, non police person that lives in Lincoln park

You're full of it. Never happened. At least I can state without any doubt that one of the named aldermen absolutely has not been "pushing hard" for anyone. Why would an alderman want to owe Rahm one, when he needs them more than they need him? Goof.
