The Ed and Melissa Show

Another one of those "merit" people with a skyrocket attached to their ass:

From the February 2017 class with a graduation date of March - guess who's headed to the D Unit?
  • Who is Sgt. Tom Crain? Merit? With less than a year in grade as a Sgt? What happened to Special Ed’s hard rule about moving newly promoted Sgt’s?!  Must be pretty special for Staples to move him to 620, on the Homicide Team, demand Commander RB put him on days and move another seasoned Det. Sgt off the team. This guy can’t stop running his mouth about how tight he is with Staples and how quickly he’ll ascend once she’s Superintendent.
Must be nice to be able to parade your connections around and brag about it so everyone can see them.

This is some BULLSHIT. These bunch of hacks can't solve a crossword puzzle let alone an actual crime. This job SUCKS and I thank goodness that I'll be out of here soon. I'm a blue shirt with no aspirations of going any further because I chose that path. It's a shame that these bullshit SGT's are going to handle a Police shooting and now you have the blind leading the blind. Get SGT A.V. a booster chair for his desk and the rest of these hacks you don't deserve to be there after just one year as a SGT. I feel bad for the kids on the job. What a joke...

Merit Sgt. Sent to 009 from sgt school. Put on days when he got there even though other sgts already in 009 remained stuck on midnights and afternoons. They had been told by the commander that no new sgts were going to days, and they could move to days when the new sgts arrived. He is not the only one. There is a merit female sgt from same class named Yolanda, last name escapes me, who went back to her unit already. Personnel or something at 35th Street. You see her name on teletypes. Just wait and see what happens with the new Lt class that just came to the districts. Every stinking merit Lt will be a commander in under two years. Some will be commanders in less then a year. There may have been a merit Lt that did not make commander in the history of the department, but I can’t think of one. Not that anyone at city hall cares, but we know you monitor this blog. This crap is exactly why the merit promotion process has destroyed moral in the police department.

Given not earned, the only thing you can do on this job now if you are not connected, is stay fetal, take all exams to try and bump up that pension. If you score high enough, they can't deny you, but the highest you can ever go is Lt. Before you say bull, retired Lt scored in top 10, Sgt, just made it, scored in top 400, Detective, scored in top 50. I was a good test taker and yes, the real police, also told I was a good boss as well. But you see, the pension stopped at Lt. NO CLOUT! Look at the command staff in this department, 95% given not earned with multiple bites of the merit apple. But, they are all good guys, and gals right? Good luck, and may God keep you safe!

Just more evidence of how rotten CPD is at the top. One set of rules for us; something completely different for them.

On the other hand, it's not entirely CPD's fault because the rot goes straight to Rahm. If CPD is in disarray it's advantageous to Rahm. He can spew most anything he wants for any purpose he wants and then blame CPD for any and everything, and make it all sound believable to the schlub on the corner (aka voter.)

Simply put, a F'd up CPD is better for Rahm than a great CPD because he can always hold out the promise of making CPD better if only the voters give him another chance. Rahm is a weasel who will betray and backstab anyone if doing so helps him hold onto power.

Until there's a leader at the top who demands excellence, ethics, accountability and who exhibits it himself, CPD will be stuck in an endless cycle of its own Groundhog Day. It will never fix itself from within.

Yes, it should be eliminated, but it won't. The courts and the public really do not care about nepotism, cronyism, feather bedding and all of the other tricks a corrupt democratic administration knows and pulls. I recall when the city held hearings to establish the " merit system" convened by none other then the corrupt Ald. Beavers. He promised that the merit system would be on the up and up and only great cops who had trouble " putting pencil to paper" would benefit. Ya, right.

Tommy was a fantastic detective and worked homicides. He needs to be back in the d unit. Whoever works for him will be very pleased. He was/is on of the better homicide detectives out there. He’s. Waste in the district

1/09/2018 12:07:00 AM

What was fantastic about him? Was the Homicide rate less than 20% when Tommy was there or did it drop when he left? How many did he clear by arrest? Honestly neither of them should be meritoriously promoted. The clearance rate is a damn shame.

Eddie voluntarily stood before us, a class of new sergeants and declared that the merit sergeants had to work patrol two years before running to their hiding spots. Oh and he put on a show. Six months later, close to half of the meritoriously promoted sergeants are working the desk or in units. It’s scary knowing that he has to make decisions concerning officers faith.

Nobody cares right the 2 liner for that mystery shooting and put that line in NO witness No video scene contaminated. YAWN...
We welcome any SGTS who wear an ID around their neck so we can know the even work in the building.

You can’t think of much of anything. You are so misinformed it’s embarassing. Either you were mistakenly misinformed of willingly ignorant.

Then he should have passed on the promotion and stayed in the unit. I was a good V/C dick back in the day also, was a tuff decision but I took the promotion, not merit by the way. Never made it back to the D unit, and watched many others that were never detectives get moved there as sergeants. Must be nice having clout, and idiots like you as cheer leaders. Melissa Staples. I do not know her or anything about her. You see, I am retired from the job. But, as Chief of Detectives, I wonder why she is not being held accountable for the miserable violent crime clearance rate ? The lowest homicide clearance rate of any large urban area in the country.

Because she has strong connections with the LGBT and Rahm needs those votes. I hope you didn’t think she earned that 160,000 spot. She’s just a face. It’s all politics.

And they are not supposed to, if you can't do your job, then perhaps you are in the wrong job. The Sgt is supposed to do Sgt's duties, mostly deal with cry baby brats with superiority complexes who act like they know every fucking thing. But, when they realize that they do not, need someone to blame.

The Sgt's in HGS run the office, mange the day to day operations, like overtime; and seldomly take an active role in any investigation. Nobdy complains when they are on their knees with a yellow slip held up.

This is happeneing everywhere. A new Sgt in 001 went right back to the DOC (or CPIC...one of those crystal ball units) another to a homicide team. Several years ago, a double merit (det then sgt), went from 010 to an area team. This after he pitched a bitch because he didn't get put in a class earlier. Can't these merit hacks ever just shut up and be humble for a minute?!?

I see you’ve never met or worked for P. Bauer currently assigned to 018. Smartest guy in every room he enters.

Anyone want to wager when he makes merit Lt? I’m sure it’ll be greatly merited with his courageous “administrative” accomplishments.

Not true. Sergeants are supposed to led an investigation. Most can't. Be grateful most dont know what they are supposed to do. Thus you get more freedom.

One team at my area has sgt like this. You need a phone call to get on the team, another to stay and you better like to work and making OT. Must be nice to have a call to get on what a high ranking sup calls the A team.

if a Det. needs to consult his Sgt, that's fine. Personally, I have NEVER needed to do this. Sgts were good guys and all, but just not needed in that regard. There's plenty of other Dets. to kick around ideas with. I have had Sgt. who were never Dets. and they were the best Sgts. around. They catch on. This isn't brain surgery. All the homicide guys should stop believing that all the Det. shows are true.

That statement alone is an example of why you should dumped. You should be embarrassed, but you’re not. You have no idea what’s required of you. Sergeant you are a SUPERVISOR you should be supervising and leading investigations. But you can’t because you never worked as a detective. I was once a detective and my experience has helped me as a patrol sergeant.

In that case they should eliminate sgt’s in D-Unit all together. Sarge you’re the one in the wrong job and why are you concerned with others having a superiority complex? Is that an offense to your incompetence?
