No P.O.W.E.R. Test?

That's kind of a stretch - it seems that you still have to pass the POWER test to get into the Academy. That's a rule set forth by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. You don't pass, you don't get in.

However, Chicago actually had a good idea at one point, making recruits pass the test at intervals during training and to exit, meaning a recruit had to maintain some modicum of health while proceeding through training.

But now, it's one and done if our comment sections are correct.

I heard that they were thinking about doing the same thing for the state shooting test. As long as you pass it once while at the range training you pass. They claim that it is too stressful for recruits

I’m currently tying to get hired off of the 2016 list and I can say that at least for the 2016 test and the 2017 test administered in April of 2017 that you have to take at least two power tests. One in the beginning of your process and one “final” power test 45 days before you’re academy start date.

Look no further than the person in charge of the academy. He has blocked standards for recruits, especially physical standards. The academy is in poor shape.

I remember the whole class being in front lean and rest when a female recruit was sent to find the missing woman. She was in the locker room eating a muffin... a motherfucking muffin... while the rest of the class was being punished for her absence. I also remember the class pushing and pulling her ample ass on runs... leave no (wo)man behind. She's a nice lady but has no businesses on the job.

So you can come out of the academy in worse physical condition than when you entered. That makes no sense and 3 to 5 years on the job you can be a fat slip. And they wonder why so many police officers are not in shape. They allow it from the first day in the academy. I’m sure even CALEA doesn’t endorse this. So what is the reason and why has this been started
If this is really the case, then the gym instructors can all go back on the street

I only had to take it two time, once before the academy and one in. I got much stronger in the academy so the second test was a breeze. I don't know how you can get worse in the academy unless the instructors are no longer having you do push ups and running.

What about the recruit / PPO with a cane?
How the frick did that person pass a POWER test yet needs a cane to function daily?
How soon before that PPO is working an inside job somewhere?

I recall an old Auto Theft Detective that had an amputation or issue with his leg because of some illness and the Department forced him to retire early because they said he could work with a cane.

WOW have times changed.

Academic standards changed years ago. Recruits had a state test they had to pass (and still do), but also had a city final. City final test was dropped after a box of rocks couldn't pass it multiple times and was fired. Box of rocks sued, claiming protected class discrimination, was given job back and academy no longer had a city final test.

Since there is now a foot chase policy, seems to me the Power test is useless anyway.....

Back in the day, I was in the first class of the first hires.(Proud to say I was in the top 100) I came to the Academy way overweight......no power test in the 80's back then......only had to pass before graduation....
The first day, the Lt. came into the gym, called me a Fat Frucking Whale.....and put me on every morning (before class) gym.....in addition to the regular gym classes we had......my class-mates helped me every step of the way, too......
It worked......and that worked well......came in as a size 16......came out in 6 months as a size 10......and I could run, jump, fight, and go over that damn wall, too......

Brains, and some brawn, carried me through to the end of my career......maybe MORE attention should be paid to hiring the brightest this city has to offer.......

Exactly, I do not want ex-cons enforcing the law, nor do I want any pussy's either. It takes a strong force to be an effective force. There is a reason you do 500+ pushups a day in basic training.

This recently relayed to me from a family member directly involved in the investigation of new hire applicants...

Would the media care to investigate this tasty morsel? You fucksticks troll here daily, so here's a low hanging banana for ya:

Applicants who fail any portion of the Power Test can - FOR A FEE - register for a PE class at one of a few of the local City Colleges.

There, they (ostensibly) receive additional physical conditioning from gym instructors/personal trainers until they (in theory) "pass" the power test under the watchful eye of City College employees. Now here's where it gets good...

These applicants get a certificate saying they passed the Power Test to bring back to the Personnel Division and get right back where they left off in the hiring process line WITHOUT HAVING TO PASS THE POWER TEST AT THE ACADEMY.

Another slickster money grab hatched by crooked ass scum for a crooked ass job in the crookedest city in the USA.

PS - FUCK YOU, rahm.

The state only requires a power test before entering the academy. A final power test is the option of each academy. CPD academy used to have standards at the end of the academy but the current boss removed the standards. He is concerned about stress on the recruits. Times have changed.

Although standing for hours at 2-3 crimes scenes a night, 4-5 times a week may require some leg muscle.

I remember having to pass the power test about 3 weeks before graduation and also the obstacle course with the 6 foot wall. If you came close to passing they let you in, but if you missed a few, you were in the breakfast club until you came up to standards. We had 300 recruits in 10 classes and no one failed either test. I remember some of the runs to the Sears tower, History museum and a full hour through UIC. Then 15 to 30 minutes lean and rest. The biggest rule was never eat if PT and DT were right after lunch.
