Bye Bye Soda Tax

We don't know about you, but we've kind of gotten to enjoy shopping outside of Cook County. It's only about 20 minutes from home, the people are unfailingly polite, we save on groceries and toss in gas and a big ticket item every other month or so. If we happen to pass a sporting good store, a few hundred rounds of ammo are always happy to make a home in our redoubt.

And we aren't the only ones.

Agreed, and I think a lot of people are thinking along those same lines. If Bullwinkle is still around next year, I think she, and the rest of the board, are going to see the sales tax money to be significantly less. I saw on the Trib’s Breaking News that Chief Judge Evans is suing Toni to block the layoffs in his office. I love when these democRats turn on themselves.

Yes, again, you are all welcome to shop in Lake Co. any time. Buy your groceries, fill up your tank, have a meal at the finest restaurants in Illinois (e.g. check out Highwood).

Just don't plan to move here -- Lake Co. has the highest property taxes in the nation, and they continue to scream upward.

Question. I found out recently that some towns/burbs actually give their residents a rebate on money earned through recycling. If that's true, how much money is the city earning through OUR recycling efforts? How come with that extra money must other fines or taxes increase? The city is no doubt making money off those blue cans and there's alot of question about where that money goes. Won't some reporter look into it?

That story about Chief Judge Evans suing Preckwinkle is hilarious. Let the games begin. Now they’re pointing fingers at each other. What I found particular interesting was that the article mentioned that Evans has twin daughters working in his office. Really. How is this acceptable. There is no one else qualified for those positions other then his twin daughters. It’s amazing what some people can get away with.

As most here have commented...the damage has been done. The "soda" tax was the hair that broke the camel's back. I shop outside Cook County and will continue to do so whenever possible. No bag tax, no ammo tax, everything is cheaper and I don't have to have my head on a swivel worrying about "teens" and their robbery and carjacking crews. Haven't bought gas or groceries in Illinois since Dec 2016. Nice easy ride down 294 to Kenosha, Wi. Woodmans and Costco. No tax on food. Just paid $2.19 for gas at Costco. $2.69 in Illinois. Get off at 137 East to avoid the last toll and go to 41 N. it parallels 94. Nice friendly people. I counted 17 plastic bags with my order today. I've run into quite a few coppers up there. ♠️

Also the Chipotle at Roosevelt and Clinton -

I travel to Missouri every two weeks. On the way home, I stock up on everything I need. I even carry a cooler in the trunk to hold perishables. It's a good way to stretch my legs and it breaks up the six hour drive.

I like the pleasant service, the greater variety of products and the cleaner stores. I like the much cheaper gas (I fill the tank about an hour out of town). I like the free bags and I really like having a modicum of control over where my money's going.

Moving to Missouri soon. Looking forward to recovering even more of my rights once I'm there.

Working for the county I was able to move to Lake county years ago. My property taxes are higher, but when you factor in the nuisance fees and taxes in Chicago and Cook county it is worth it to leave. My auto insurance dropped a third as soon as we moved. No city sticker. My street gets plowed. I don't see my money going for illegals and criminal rights groups.

How about a giant billboard 100 yards on the Indiana side of the Tollway coming in to Chicago that says:

Had a real beauty right before Thanksgiving. Gets to the checkout and was short over $ 30.00 on a gift card--that she didn't bother checking the balance on. So she left everything on the checkout counter, over $ 90.00 worth of groceries, and walked out with her 3 ragamuffins. This was after a delay for a price check too.

You're so right that there is always a "problem." The dolts typically start asking multiple moronic questions while holding up everyone in line.

Great move. What did you Save about $30.00 on the grill in taxes at the most
Illinois doesn’t tax our pension. Arizona does at the rate of 2.59 to 4.64 gradual income tax. Wife and I have combined pensions of 120,000
So if I move to Arizona I will be taxed around $4000 in state income tax, but I will won’t have to pay the $30 for the Weber grill tax. All I have to do is order 137 grills and I will break even

Welcome to Wisconsin.

Sales tax: 5.5% (Kenosha County), 5.1% (Racine County), 5.6% Kilwaukee County.
NO SALES TAX ON GROCERIES or prescription drugs. No b.s. charges for plastic bags or soda tax.

Premium Outlets on Wis. 165 in Pleasant Prairie. Costco, Target (some good grocery prices), J.C. Penney (one of the newest in the USA) and Woodman's off Wis. 50. Kwik Trip at Wis. 50 and County H by Costco has cheap gas, too. Woodman's is a huge grocery store with low prices. Best Buy is by Woodman's. Menards and Lowe's are near Wis. 50 and 31 (Green Bay Road). Dick's Sporting Goods is near Target.

A trip north can pay for itself.
