Congrats to those who have worked and studied hard to make it legitimately in a very non legit department. Some good people on the list. However, a few questions.... Can anyone shed some light on whether any of the merit folks have actually done anything deserving of such? How does Betts, after spending a few plus years as the Cmdr of 015 nominate someone from 002? Another "Noble" move? And how much time will the other "Chizler" daughter spend in a district before being whisked away to an inside spot far removed from the dangers of the mean streets?

What kind of a message does this send to the 025th District Sgts that actually work for him. The numbers in 025 should go negative for the next year just to show this guy what an asshole he is.

Merit ok but tell you what works the west end of 008 and he does the job in the homeland! Also if you get into it he's the man you want on the scene when shit gets out of control, he backed me up at on a couple of calls glad he was there he really knows how to handle the situations when they get out of control. To him congratulations if someone's going to get a merit spot he definitely deserves it not because of connection but because of the person he is. Sometimes a person gets it because they deserve it simple as that!

I don’t know the guy who was driving the covert chasing the gangbangers with the rifle what got shot at and I’m glad they didn’t get seriously hurt. However he had a PPO with him and broke several GO’s and you promote him meritoriously??? With all due respect he should have been disciplined not promoted. In a few months this guy will have a team of young officers under his direction real smart. Waiting for a promotional off a list and then seeing who they make infront of you is ridiculous. This department is a joke.
Glad to see that even though 007 has the big crime reduction that they got one whole merit pick and it was the caps lady. What a slap in the face to all those that worked and helped lower the crim rate. But hey keep getting the bosses their numbers.

Why does the civilian director of MLAS get a pick for merit Sgt promotion? I didn’t think P.O.’s were allowed to work in that Unit. So how would the Director (new to CPD) know that BW is deserving of a merit promotion? This is nothing more than a flagrant example of nepotism.

Years ago, in the pos prentice marshal days, someone suggested that anyone interested in promotion put their star in a barrel; and the number needed be randomly picked out of the barrel at half time of a bears, bulls, etc. game. At least everyone would have the same chance. Long gone, couldn't do it today.

Funny how all you clowns think scoring well on one test makes this process legit. It's almost as bogus as the merit process. Awards, activity, education, discipline, and test should all be considered. If that was the case, half these new sergeants would be crying. Trust me.
This round of promotions goes to show you that cheating does pay regardless of cheating thru merit (politics and favoritism) or cheating via study group run by SME subject matter experts ( a few of them Sgts go to work in CAPS) how does a field sergeant get to finish Sgt school and then go directly to CAPS or front office. Just remember the new CPD culture is once a cheater always a cheater most of these promotions will go to unworthy hacks and is a kick to the balls of every ethical working copper. But you heard it hear first keep your ears peeled for any of these new LT’s to get caught up in some shit from HIS past. If you have 20+ years then its time to get out before the stress of this job and its BS leadership kills you. There have been a ton of unfit and unqualified supervisors making LT good luck to coppers working for them. It’s time for a new test in 2018. I guess Bernstein will charge $1,500 for part 1. We need independent testers and testing facilities free from CPD interference.
Merit Board are a bunch of cowards (Washington, Caluris, Alexander, Boehmer and Devereuz) - you spent hours/days/weeks to interviewing candidates and then the first class of merit lieutenants doesn't match who you scored well qualified, and yet you keep your mouth shut. There should be a letter from the merit board ripping the promotions and how they were recommendations were ignored. You were simply pawns in the system.
You want officers to stand up and do the right thing on the street, but you are afraid to lead by example while sitting in an office building. Poor leadership. It's never wrong to do what it right.

As I look over the merit list of Lt./Sgt and i use that classification loosely; its a dammm shame these merit promoted pieces of stuff are a slap in the face to the working police with these butt kisser/house mouse individuals! Now you promote these people and leave use P.O.S to train these scammer! KMA two times and in saying that as the former working working police I ain't doing a damm thing..... give me my 2 personal and lunch and let's not forget a few equipment adjustment and I'm done for my tour !

I thought the merit process included that the nominator had to supervise the candidate? There are numerous merit names that were submitted by someone outside their chain of command. SGT from the academy put in by the CMDR of 025, that sergeant has been at the academy for years and before that MSF, yet a CMDR who has not supervised him in years if at all, can submit him. It's a slap to the 025th District sergeants, but I thought the process was supposed to catch that. The Department is reforming right?
Also, SGT Y.T. from HR was put in from the 002 CMDR yet SGT Y.T. has been at HR for more than two years, once again, that CMDR hasn't supervised her in years.
HR and the AG are siting in the room, does anyone check on this?

First off, you are an idiot! Secondly, that FTO you're referring to is a leader among men! Truly the most deserving person to ever be handed such a position! I for one am glad he scored so poorly on the Sgt's exam enabling him to fill one of these spots. Don't let his lack of knowledge cloud your judgment! There’s no sense in complaining because this department has always been who you are hooked up with and connected to. It will never change and yes it is unfair but drinking buddies and golf buddies and relatives are always going to be promoted over you. It’s a way of life in Chicago and unfortunately it’s been going on for over 100 years . Politicians get called on cronyism but for some reason the police department can Blatantly get away with it. The merit system was never legally challenged and there’s no written policy from one person to the next or the reasons why they get promoted.

Sorry, don’t have the list without numbers, but I do know this. The 025th District D/C puts an academy Sgt in for meritorious Lt and the guy gets promoted. What kind of a message does this send to the 025th District Sgts that actually work for him. The numbers in 025 should go negative for the next year just to show this guy what an asshole he is.

Some real solid guys on the list. Finally.
The merit system is broken, obviously the guidelines aren’t ever going to be followed.
Rumors suggest that due to the budget issues this list will be up for a few more years. As long as the city has a test completed before the end of 2019 they well ahead of the last 9-10 year wait period between tests. The first class off of this list came out in April of 2015, which means the list is not even three years old yet. Another 400-450 more sgts off this list and in 2020, the first class should be coming out off of the 2019 Sgt exam.
Congrats Sgt Maxson! Smart guy, always looking out for the troops! Gonna miss you in 009! Good luck Lt.

It is no surprise to anyone in 25 that Escamerit picked somebody from another place. He thinks all of his supervisors are stupid and he treats them like shit. He talks down to them, he criticizes everything they do. He shows up on a crime scene and starts yelling at the sergeants about how they are handling the scene. He barks orders on the radio like a goof. This guy is one of the most ignorant assholes I have ever seen in over 20 years on this job. This fat fuck better go to church every Sunday and that the lord for the merit system because there is no way this goof could have ever got a promotion on his own.
BW as a sergeant? Those chairs in 003 and HQ must've put in a good word.

The kind of message they want you to get. That rules don’t apply to them and that they can violate them and get away with it and there is nothing you can do. They can do as they want. Merit promotions is an example. Probably 80% of those promoted by merit were not promoted for the reasons merit promotions were put into place. The violations are so blatant and they don’t care or try to hide it

Saw the "Merits", and they include a bottle blonde, whose career consists of: Downtown, 019 and Days in 016! That's her entire career. Her test score was in the two thousand range! Oh, and now she is running for Office as a State Legislator. Seeing someone like this, promoted is a real Morale Builder! Now she will claim because she has kids,so she needs a Day Shift in a White District. Meanwhile, guys with the Medal of Valor, get a bone thrown to them; they make them FTOs! The job has become a Joke.

Lesson on merit:
1. It's not legit
Ex: a Chief asks a Cmdr.,ex: Cmdr from 014, to make his girl merit Sgt. with all 9 years on. Her duty at that time is an inside spot in the district. Of course this girl never worked for the chief, which is part of the criteria, but the chief is good friends with the girls mom, a retired capt. A bonus is that the girl's dad is a retired Lt. So who cares about the stringent guidelines. After a VERY brief stint in a district, the esteemed merit Sgt., with all that experience and knowledge as a police officer in patrol now works for the Chief inside his administration office. You would think someone so intelligent would have made it by score.
And that's you you get merit promoted
So those of you busting your butt making arrests, doing ISR's for the boss, bringing in numbers and pro-active for the tact Lt.,, and basically putting your life on the line, remember how merit is actually made.

So crystal king smith decides to promote a highly connected house mouse Yolanda tally as merit Lt. I believe she is al wysingers niece? So instead of staying in house and promote one of your 002nd district sgts you decide to give it to someone who doesn't work the street, has barely ever worked the street and doesn't work for you in your exempt position in 002. It's an absolute slap in the face to every Sgt in 002 who works for you everyday that you bypass all of your people and go outside the district for a "favor" promotion. This is what's wrong with merit appointments. I'm not 100 percent against them but in cases like this it's absolute crap. Complete slap in the Ave of every Sgt in 002. And if you try to claim that you put in 3 sgts for merit nominations and tally then don't waste our time. We aren't dumb. You know as well as I do that Talley was chosen and she was going to get picked.. so crystal, who called you for this favor? Was it Al? Eddie? Maybe the alderman? You should be ashamed and if you are a Sgt in 002 I wouldn't do a thing for the camel jockey commander from now on.

She was just visiting in 007 since like beginning of this year to get some “street time “ to get some police experience since before that she was deputy’s office assistant.

It’s odd, he’s such a super cop in 8 but I live in 8 and have never seen him. You sure like the taste of his sack though.
When will the Department finally call these “merit” promotions what they really are? Promotions for the connected. They must be exactly what they are when Exempts are allowed to submit the names of members who aren’t even under their command.
Even worse is the fact that civilians like Wynter Jackson who is the head of Management and Labor Affairs are allowed to meddle in this process. This woman never has and never will be the Police. How is she able to make any determination as to the abilities and/or qualifications of any Officer, let alone the one she anointed?
Funny how these merit picks came out just hours after the Sup sent out an email about working with the Attorney General to form a consent decree that is being gesigned to make the Department more professional and transparent.
Where are they at on the Sgt’s list?

Don't forget that they scrapped the current merit Lt list with over a dozen people still on it who were all rated in the top tier for this new list, the reason? They were supposed to chose all people from the top tiers first (their rules) before picking from the lower tiers, but that means nothing on this dept. they should stop trying to make the process look legit and just tell everyone they are picking who they want, it would be easier to stomach....
