Close the Courts?
This is an interesting rumor from a long time reader:
- Meanwhile, reliable sources are saying Preckwinkle will close all misdemeanor courts in the City and combine them into suburban courthouses. No more Belmont and Western, Harrison and Kedzie, etc. If this occurs, CPD officers will not make misdemeanor arrests, and if possible they will just issue citations. One hour and a half round trip travel time, is not worth it to appear in court.
No Branch Courts? This sounds like a Prickwrinkle game of chicken to force some budget issues. Closing Branch Courts would eliminate numerous judge spots, countless sheriffs in court, transport personnel, etc. Probably upwards of fifty people per location plus support personnel in other places.
Frankly, we like it. Painless to taxpayers, ball breaking to Dart, and pretty much less work for CPD, too, because arrests are going to crater overnight. Go for it Toni! People will be buying a lot of personal defense ammo - out of county though.

Seriously??? Tact boy wonders will make just as many misdemeanor arrests now as they will when branch courts close. These strokes will do anything to appease their supervisors, wear jeans and avoid midnights including risking their freedom and bank accounts

Shit, the last time I went to traffic court it was such a clusterfuck that I never returned. Very punitive. I Have not since seen a violation worth citing.
Misdemeanor court is ridiculous anyways. How many BFSOL’s, complaining witnesses not in court, and outright dismissals happen over and over and over? The shoplifter from Jewel where the complainants never show is a total waste of time and manpower. No repercussions, no accountability, no consequences?? No need.
Why not one central felony court location while they're at it?

Hell, arrests are way down, police are fetal and courts send them home. Why not shut down whole court system? Let the community sentence the evil doers. Nobody should go to jail in a sanctuary city. Amen. On the extreme outside chance I will be "ticketed" for a misdemeanor, I will gladly go to a suburban court. And on the more likely chance I will be the complainant on such ticket, once again I would happily go to a suburban court. Go ahead, queen sugar.

Sheriff Dart has the most reckless budget to public safety. Since he has been in office he cut 725 court deputy positions and added several hundred administrative positions. And mind you most of the beat off issues with the PD's is on the court side.

It's so funny because every copper I talk to says they don't issue traffic tickets because they hate traffic court. Now this? Lol. And if someone does? How many BFWs will there be because the offender ain't gotta a car to go to court There go more car jackings.

Stop seeing crimes as a "black and brown" issue and start seeing it for what it is. A victim is being harmed (or worse) and/or deprived of their possession(s) without their knowledge and/or consent and unfortunately, (sometimes) by force. And not to mention the mental and/or emotional toll it takes and other potential impacts, loss of job etc..

No need to close the misdemeanor rooms. Just hold the felony call in the morning and the misdemeanor call in the afternoon in the same room. You still need half the staff but nobody has to drive out to the 'burbs.

Every time I go to work I tell myself that this City , County , State and job can't get anymore fucked up than it already is and then some politician proves me wrong. I would say that Chicago is going to be what Detroit was in the '80's and '90's , but I seriously think we are on our way to being way worse than that.

Nuts? Not sure about that. Did you ever think she might want to cut misdemeanor arrests and have less offenders in court and county jail

Push the judges too hard and PorkWrinkke will be easily voted out when they put up their notable candidate, and she knows there’s still time to do that.
I haven't seen a court room in about two years, it's been great.
The courts throw everything out anyway, so why not consolidate. Fewer sheriffs, clerks and judges to pay. Make some rooms at daley center. One stop shop.

Prickwinkle cannot close any courts. The chief Judge and the Supreme Court have to issue an order to open or close any court. She can’t do it.
The beginning of the end for law and order as we knew it. The savage becomes more emboldened.
This county/ city is the land of the devil and there are plenty of his disciples here to make sure that law and order is not allowed.
