Court Reminders?

  • Starting in December, those with pending Cook County criminal cases will have access to phone and text reminders about upcoming court dates.

"We had 14,000 people who had a warrant issued last year because they did not come back to court when they were supposed to," Chief Judge Timothy Evans said at a news conference Wednesday.

"Under this new approach, we will be notifying [people] similarly to the way you get notified for your doctor's appointments — through phone calls, text messages and things of that kind."

The announcement comes on the heels of a bond court order implemented Sep. 18 that requires judges to set affordable bail amounts for felony defendants who don't pose a risk to the community. That same order will take effect for misdemeanor cases countywide in January.
The Cook County Courts have become an advocate for the criminal instead of victims. No significant bail, the Courts are holding your hand throughout the process, and on the off chance you get convicted, you don't even get sentenced to hard time. No wonder crime is going up.

Sure, because offenders are giving legit phone numbers, addresses, etc. Actually they give the wrong contact info on purpose so you can't find them when they FTA.

Will they remind the Police, other witnesses, the lawyers and the victims at he same time?
Shouldn't they all get the same services?

FYI last week a known gang member is locked up for a U.U.W. he gets a 2000 dollar bond. Out in under 24hrs of being arrested. Cost him 200 bucks. Im sure he'll be an outstanding citzen while out on bond.

You had 14,000 warrants issued in 2016
because 14,000 criminals did not want to
face a Judge, plain and simple.
Don't blame it on lack of education or a
busy lifestyle.
Speaking of the doctor's office routine, you
know what segment of medical practice does
NOT provide courtesy calls? Pain Management.
That's right. They don't waste time and money on
phone calls because they know the patients WILL
show up. You no come in, you get no prescriptions.
Just like the Chinese laundry.

Tickets have the court dates on them. Criminal Complaints have court dates on them. Bond receipts have court dates on them...

Oh wait. Criminals are treated unfairly and weren’t given proper notice...

SMH. This county has become an embarrassment.

Cook county, the criminals' choice for criminal justice. That should be their new slogan.

Maybe Timmy can pick them up on the way to court too.

So how much is this "complimentary wake call" progam going to cost the taxpayers? Somebody has to staff it whether it's payrollers or a pay to play connected company. If they fail to call the defendant maybe the defendant can't be hit with a BFW. Next new program will be the courts picking up the defendants in vans and buses and enticing them with a continental breakfast.

Asshole----Hey judge, my Obama phone had no minutes so I did not get the text message I had court or a warrant... I refuse to accept responsibility and I will take a knee in court like in the NFL, cause this is racist and you trying to lock up minorities for no reason.

Judge--- well seeing how you are willing to become incredibly angry, and uncivil because of this-- I have to dismiss this case against you

Asshole 2 in line--- wow, I just learned something

More of the story; another day in cook county. Stay fetal, because asshole has unlimited lives and this is super Mario brothers

We have officer who were deviated as well. Sgt's or watch secretary are not properly notifying officer for court appearance. Will officers receive text reminders as well?

How will they receive the text... on their Government phone on their burn- outs? They can't afford to pay a cellphone bill therefore they change number every three days.

In addition to texting the defendants reminders of their court date they’re also going to arrange and pay for Uber to get the poor defendant to and from court.
It’s just about time to raise the white flag.

OT Mr Lamon Reccord was arrested Saturday night at DFW airport. He was charged with criminal trespass. He attempted to re-enter a restricted area and became loud and bellicose with officers. He and Jedidiah Brown have now labeled themselves freeedom fighters,
achieving justice across the country. He will be arraigned Sunday.

Off topic- the savage who did $10,000 worth of damage at the trump hotel a couple of days ago was given an i-bond the same day. Unbelievable!

Could they remind them to go to bed at a reasonable time instead of shooting, drinking, fucking, smoking weed, and playing loud obnoxious music to the wee hours of the morning?

This will definitely solve the crime problem. They have been missing court because no one reminded them they needed to come back. They been funnin without knowing they have to face the judge again. Problem solved.

Last year they could not remind me when my license plates were expiring. Could not afford to send the usual notices. But they can afford this?

Look at it this way - automated messaging costs next to nothing and they won't be able to claim they weren't duly notified.

So maybe the courts could start giving out free calendars with every court appearance. Add a toaster or electric mixer for the 10th or 12th appearance made on time!
