Channel 2 - First Step

Channel 2 actually does a tiny bit of investigative work and reveals how badly Prickwrinkle overestimated the money that her soda tax was going to bring in:
  • [Commissioner Sean Morrison (R-Palos Park)] said revenue from the tax has fallen far short of the Preckwinkle administration’s projections already. The county expected to get about $9 million a month from the tax, but Morrison said only $300,000 was collected in August, which means consumers either weren’t buying soda, or were going to other counties to do so.
$300,000 in August. Running that out to 12 months, $3.6 million - a far cry from the $200 million Prickwrinkle said she was expecting per year. Even if a bunch of people got bored of shopping out-of-county, this tax disaster isn't going to generate even half of what Prickwrinkle estimated.

The trouble is, Prickwrinkle already spent that $200 million. She gave out raises based on imaginary numbers. Her budget for next year already spent that $200 million while collecting barely a fraction - somewhere in the neighborhood of 3%. That is a HUGE message to the Cook County Board. And as far as we can see, Channel 2 is the only one reporting what an embarrassment this is to Prickwrinkle.

Now how about Step 2 - an actual investigation into where the County spends its money? Somewhere like this might be a good start (from our comment section):
  • Dear media outlets. Feel free to see how many directors are in the cook county sheriffs office now compared to 15 years ago. There were maybe 5-10 directors making 6 figures and now there are about 60-70. Anyone care to wonder why the county is broke?
It shouldn't be too difficult for an enterprising reporter to get copies of the budget from the past few years and see where the personnel increases are. Tomi brags about cutting 10% of the workforce, but that's only part of the story - how about the top-heavy management?

Hell, we'll give you another freebie for Rahm's budget - when McCompstat took over, there were six total Deputy Chiefs. Under the "doing more with less" philosophy, Rahm eliminated nearly 1,700 budgeted spots - but Deputy Chiefs went from six to seventeen, each making something in the neighborhood of $170,000 with a car. There were so many Deputy Chiefs that they started giving them Districts to command since manpower was down 1,700.

Go to it media.

Excuse me, Preckwinkle underestimated.......
Since when are these decisions made by non-
financial personnel? You mean to say a
****rigged band of accountants, lawyers, tax
people (ALL on the City Payroll) were YES MEN
because they were afraid of losing their jobs if
they gave an honest answer. They gave Preckwinkle
a poppycock report saying the numbers could work.
NO outside consultations by reputable tax and
accounting professionals. NO. We did it "The
Chicago Way." We have the work to our in house
countdown pension clock watchers.
When a public corporation makes an error this far off
the mark, revenues fall, the stock price falls, and their
competition eats them alive.
In City Government, the mistakes of a few fall back upon
the taxpayers. Puerto Rico anyone?
Toni should be ousted for incompetence. This not only
was the wrong decision, it was a costly one and a
compounding one since the raises were approved BEFORE
the tax money was in the till.
Al Capone knew how to manage money better.
Incompetent people were not on his payroll very long.

Nobody goes to Indiana, Lake County, DuPage County, or Will County and just buys pop. As long as they made the trip, they buy everything else there too. So don't forget about the taxes that Cook County is losing on all of the other goods and services that are being bought out of the county due to the soda pop tax. Taxes across the board have had to decrease substantially since this went into effect.

Look, I have no skin in the game except I reside in Chicago. The nickel and dime taxes are like paper cuts that never heal. Cell phone, cable, water, bag, soda, etc. When will we see management take a hit in these departments? CTA, Water, Cook County Sheriff, CPS and others. I am sure you could find 200-300 million right there alone. Really you can. How many people you know work at Water Management for example pulling down 100k or more and not even a decision maker? Hell, why are the alderfools assistants making 70k and yet if you call you cannot get one answer from anyone? Time to make some realistic budget choices. If not, then what the fuck is really going on then?

Maybe an in depth expose would boost readership or viewership for someone in the Chicago media with enough balls to shed a light all the crooked political dealings. Start with the aldermen and work your way up. Follow the money in all the dealings, how are their 1 million slush funds being spent, who's getting the money and what good did that money do in each ward. Look at staffs and family connections to each aldermen. They go up the ladder all the way to top of the city and county gravy chain. Shine a light and watch the rats scurry. Pipe dream, one can only hope.

Did she REALLY underestimate this revenue or was her ultimate goal to lay off criminal justice system workers and she put this in to give herself an excuse? Now when she runs again next year she will cite how she laid off people to help the county. Yeah right. I mean there ARE too many black and brown people in jail and they are already closing jails and messing with bond court. Now maybe I'm giving her too much credit here but nothing surprises me anymore. If she did not do this on purpose she is really stupid and needs to be gone either way. I find it odd, but poor people have been trained to not want to pay taxes of any sort. While they receive the largesse of government, they actively refuse to contribute to government coffers that sustain them. Progressive all holler about people paying taxes to support their vision of fairness and when afforded an opportunity to avoid them, do so with great vigor. I hate taxes as much as the next tax payer but we do have to fund the government but they attack us from all fronts, hand deeply into your pocket to remove whatever change is left from the dollars they just took. We need to vote these money grabbers out of office, but Madigan, Cullerton, Prickwrinkle and soon, Pritzker will all be assaulting our incomes. Hell, Rauner gave them the social causes they've been campaigning on, now they are free to ignore social issues and concentrate on picking the taxpayers carcass clean from any revenue they can find.

Make sure your family members vote democrat the next election and then scratch their empty damn heads when they see what comes next. Who knew they'd never cut spending and attack us with confiscatory taxes that only the working pay?

And and previously mentioned, it's not just Crook County that's coming up short but the City is too with its portion of all those Sales Taxes. But there's more to it than just that.

When all those folks -- and People ;-) -- are driving out to previously 'parts unknown', they're not driving with their eyes closed. And during their travel or when they reach their shopping destination many are going think: .......

And there is no way this could be going on without the full knowledge and approval of Michael Madigan. Cuz that's the way shit works in Illannoy.

Waste and bloat is all over the place. Take a look at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office now under Preckwinkle minion Kim Foxx. She has increased the number of big dollar jobs on her executive staff. Now she’s got a Chief of Staff AND a Deputy Chief of Staff which never existed before not to mention all of her political crony “policy advisors” including one that used to work are Loevy and Loevy making a living out of suing police officers and taking millions of taxpayer dollars. But Kim laid off a large number of prosecutors per Toni’s order and now cries that she doesn’t have sufficient resources to combat gun violence. All the while, violent crime is spiraling out of control. Shootings, murders, carjackings up way way up. It’s outrageous. But Foxx drives around in a brand new fully loaded Chevy Suburban and enlarged her security detail which she has with her 7 Days a week. It’s all an outrage but she gets away with it because Toni lets her. Waste, fraud, bloat and abuse.

As everyone knows, it's not just the Soda Tax that's coming up short, but Gas Taxes and Sales Taxes too -- as noted by the comments on this thread. And and previously mentioned, it's not just Crook County that's coming up short but the City is too with its portion of all those Sales Taxes. But there's more to it than just that.

And there goes the Property Tax money too.

Rejoice and be glad ol' Hill-Dog didn't win...

Why?

Referencing your mention of the peed-on middle class
peons who are border-jumping for more bang for their
deliberately diminished buck?

"How ya gonna keep 'em on the democratic slave plantation
if they're free to escape and spend their money outside
of Chicago/cook County?"

THESE... Are the ones voting with their feet in order
to achieve maximum fiscal efficiencies of their again
deliberately diminished buck.

Had Hill-Dog won, the D.C. nanny-statist progressives
would have gone in on the people left with enough sense
and money to flee democrat-controlled utopias like Chicago.

That obnoxious noise they were making about mandating
every hamlet, town, village and city in this nation to
"settle" the urban center non-contributors and tying
such "settlement" to federal funding.

"How dare you think you're going to flee somewhere
and live in peace, quiet and safety!"

Well... That's what immediately came to mind when we caught
wind of this craziness.

Chasing decent, law abiding people all over the place
while loudly demanding:

"Them that has, got's to give!
Or else..."

Pardon our vulgarity but FUKDAT!

>Watch This Space<

Bet you a fat man on a Friday that
Sir/Ma'am Prickwrinkle will go
knee-walking to The Combine for
some similar such taxation at the
state level to try and save face.

Heh...

Then they'll be intercepting Illinois
plated vehicles at the Wisconsin,
Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky and Indiana
borders for "Tax Evasion."

Couldnt agree more! Start with OCD. No need for a D/C Chief too many bodies at Homan Square!

He was also getting friendly with a 12y/o neighbor boy until his mom found out. This is a travesty to the innocent public. Absolutely unbelievable the states attorneys office is doing this. His job, as regional Super is to oversee the counting of leaves on various trees in the FP district. However, he is responsible only for Willow trees between 35 and 45 feet tall. Others like him, are responsible for other size trees. Other sizes of other species of trees are handled by the other 150 Regional Supers on the payroll. We keep drinking that sugary pop and paying the tax to keep them in this vital business...
