People Leaving Chicago?

  • Many Chicagoans are apparently busy moving… out of the city.

According to a new report from moving company United Van Lines, Chicago was listed as no. 1 on the list of top cities residents are leaving.

Chicago was followed on the list by numerous cities in the Northeast, including New York City, Nassau-Suffolk and Boston.

The report, which was based on data collected from customers of the moving company, analysed domestic moves during “peak moving season,” or May 1 through Aug. 31.
And guess who moving out the most?

Families. With kids. Future taxpayers.

Before the end of October, you're going to see a report from the schools. And that report is going to say enrollment is down again this year somewhere between 7,000 and 9,000 students. That follows a drop of 11,000 last year. But somehow, the CPS portion of everyone's tax bill keeps going up.

My Kids attend good CPS grade school on northwest side. Enrollment has dropped in kids classes in each of last 5 years. Some moved out of state. Rest moved out of city. People who don't have to live here for work are leaving. I'm already telling my kids Chicago is fine place to live (a lie. I don't believe that )as a kid, but as time goes by its not a place to stay as an adult . I will not live in this city. County. Or state. And neither will my kids. And yes , many families are way ahead of me on that thinking .

Using TV ads, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has joined up with Preckwinkle to sponsor retaining the Cook County sweetened beverage soda tax. In two TV commercials to date, he has used black doctors named Javette Orgain and Terry Mason to claim it's to curb diabetes, obesity, heart disease, etc. among the children, particularly black children.

The very chutzpah of this billionaire gouger. The politicians neglect to inform the public that those most in need are covered by the federal Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)-- the Link card welfare holders who are exempt from the this outrageous penny per ounce tax.

These scum politicians insult our intelligence. They obviously think we're all gullible damn fools.

The only viable solution is to escape CRook County and Illinois ASAP. Is it any wonder why the most politically corrupt major city in the nation is also ranked highest in out migration?

The government officials here worry about everything but the people who are paying to keep it a flot. Highest number of gang members, highest heroine use, highest murder total, lowest conviction rate, and yes taxes / fees that out pace all of the above. The building downtown has out paced people buying them. This place is so anti Police and procrminal. What business would want to put up with all the over regulation. Who wouldn't want to move.

I'm gone as soon as I retire. They can laugh now. But soon they will be begging people to stay.

There number one issue is DACA and rapping down old monuments. That's relely going to make people want to stay. The Democratic really messed this place up. And for all those in denial they have been running this place for a long time. Get real, you have to admit the problem before you can fix it. Most just can't bring them selves to do something different. Look up the definition of insanity, keep doing the same thing and expecting to have a different outcome. The first thing in any rehab is to admit you have a problem.

I'm done and will be moving where I can be surrounded by like minded people. Not fools taxing the pop. That just evil.

Read between the lines; if they can afford to use a moving service with professional movers, I feel safe in saying these are NOT the kind of peoples/folks who move around with their worldly possessions stuffed in black plastic garbage bags. These are clearly taxpayers fleeing "Shitcaga"! And why; After all Rahm claims we have some of the best French restaurants in the country. Though most residents of Chicago cannot afford to dine in those fine establishments. The public schools are among the worst in the nation, with a declining student population, yet the cost of operating them increases annually. $80 Million for security alone, WTF! How many retired politicians stay? Has anyone seen the "Gringo" Dick Mel around? How much time does "Shortshanks" spend in Bridgeport these days? And when Rahm is defeated, he too will leave. And those of us who remain, will pay for the corruption. And those school enrollment figures do not address City Colleges, which even with free tuition for illegals, kids from CPS, and kids from public housing; it too is seeing a Major decline in enrollment. However, they can still manage to take care of the clouted. The "Vice-Chancellor" for City colleges, a former CPD exempt known for her incompetence, earns over $140,000 for heading their Security and Safety Department. Yet nobody can point to anything she has done other than provide employment for her friends and relatives. Add her CCC salary to her CPD pension and she easily breaks a quarter of a million dollars annually! The Corrupt and the Clouted ain't leaving, because like the maggots and parasites that they are, there is still dead meat and blood to feast upon. Please be careful; Rahm has your back. Baby "G"

City will never give up living in city rule for city employees. They might be the only ones left that actually pay taxes. Someone has to pay for all the fat pensions the city allows. Most corporations have canceled pensions and gone to a 401 program but not the local and federal governments. Stick it to the taxpayers again. As for medical coverage after retirement, again with most corporations that is a thing of the past. You retire and have to get your own supplemental policies and pay out of pocket. That is the real world for most taxpayers.

When schools get their actual dollar amounts based the number of kids butts in seat for x number of days and even y number of hours to qualify as a day, the more butts that aren't in the seats means the higher that tax bill needs to go to cover the butt losses.

heck of a situation eh? Get more kids and have schools busting at the seems, then get more loot- costs taxpayers more. Lose population and the bill taxpayers get STILL manages to go up.

It is almost like it is a racket or something.
Interestingly, we see the same thing happening with policing.

Punched out of this crashing airplane seven years ago and never looked back. The things I miss about Chicago do not outweigh the risk in even visiting this out of control crook paradise. Used to live in what, at the time, I referred to as the Green Zone. Why oh why would people not want to live in the sanctuary paradise that is Chicago?
So what if half the city is a free fire zone, the court system winks at criminality, the school system is bad, and taxes are high. After all you still have Chicago Values.

What the politicians need to do is raise taxes and raise them seriously high, especially property and sales taxes and then put fee on anything and everything.
After all it takes money, lots of money to maintain and further Chicago Values.
Someday all working Chicagoans will wake up--when the city resembles Detroit or some middle Eastern cesspool --only to realize it is too late.

Think I will now go to the Chic Fil A and contemplate about Chicago Values.

Only difference is Dupage county actually sentences criminals to real prison time. That drives these criminals back to cool county. Hopefully the people leaving have wised up to how stupid it is to keep voting Democrat, and won't simply bring the madness wherever they re-settle.

You know, as a kid I always wondered how huge cities like Macchu Picchu and Angkor Wat could be utterly abandoned. It seemed so weird to think of people just walking away from anything so large and magnificent. I'm starting to see how it happens. Human blight moves in and everybody else moves out. Sometimes the only answer is to walk away and let the jungle have it.

Just look at all of the new high rise construction going on Downtown in 001 and 018! Someone must be planning for a huge influx of democrats dumb enough to move here! Multi-unit condos starting in the $400K range.

I guess when they can't get a buyer, there's always Sec-8! Why not! Uncle Sam is always going to pay that bill! Have fun living Downtown next to the ghetto mutts.

Looks like the "New and Improved" Robert Taylor will be at 1200 S Indiana with beautiful views of the Lake and Grant Park.

Central Business District will only get worse. Homicides, Agg Batts, Armed & Strong Armed Robberies, (A)CSA's... Crimes against Taxpayers & Tourists will only increase.

Our house just went on the market yesterday; we are moving to Kenosha before the end of the year.

We're empty nesters, so it's no longer a question of schools. More a question of "get out of Illinois before the state goes completely down the toilet."

Going to miss our neighborhood and our parish, true. But we'll find another.

With taxes and fees your total tax commitment in Canada is 55-65%. Healthcare is mediocre at best. Do your homework.

I wonder how many are moving north....like Canada north?

Detroit public schools lost 50% of their students over a 10-year period. In that same period their budget tripled.....same shit with CPS so why isn't anyone asking why the budget continues to balloon while enrollment plunges? 2/3rds of every real estate tax bill goes to precious schools who are beyond reproach but if they serve far less students...why would expenses continue to climb? absurd

We packed up (kids included) and moved to the south burbs...Was in the testing process for CPD until I removed myself from the process. Apparently I applied while drunk. During the home interview my BI, retired CPD, said, "why would you move from here and back to the shitty city to work for them." As a former Trooper turned business owner, it is sad to see The LE professional, CPD, and Chicago being ruined by liberal anti-police politicians. Our next move is out of the state. Until then, we shop in Indiana for almost everything...including the dangerous obesity causing sugar filled liquid beverages.

Same with ABC...... Victim says it was young boys.......

It be racist to mention they were black......

2017 has been a disaster for the NW side. Bag tax, soda tax, Arena housing project, CPS antipolice programs have spooked lots of normies, not just city workers. All are planning escape but are afraid to tell neighbors ahead of time. Everyone wants to be first, not last out......

9/13/2017 01:27:00 PM

Of course people are sneaking out. Once the panic sets in and the mad rush for the exit begins, people run the risk of ending up like the poor souls at the 2:00 mark of this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xY59mR44TLs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

This was unique among nightclub disasters, in that it was filmed LIVE as it happened. One of the owners of the nightclub was a reporter at WPRI, who thought a piece on nightclub safety would be timely and topical, since this took place only a few days after the stampede at the E2 nightclub in town that killed 21 people back in 2003.

In a way, he was right. This certainly raised awareness about nightclub safety. 96 people were killed within the time span of an average commercial break, with another 4 dying in the weeks and months following. This is a pretty tough video to watch.

I retired before I thought I would. Had to flee the fucked up CPD and the overtaxed, free thug roaming, sanctuary city, shit hole Chiraq! Moved out of Crook County to the peaceful, sedate burbs. Beautiful mature trees, streams, quiet, friendly folks, were most actually like the Police. You will not regret it!! Don't miss Shitcago in any way! My stress level has plummeted and my family and I are so thrilled! Get out a.s.a.p! You will have no regrets!!

"Not long before only ones left in city will be city employees forced to live there. Don't get your hopes about breaking residency in new contract. City cannot afford to let your tax base leave. You will continue to be held hostage. Someone has to pay for all the stupid pension they negoated. Should stop all lesion rights and go to a 401k program. Private industry has adopted this model. The city and state are broke and will not meet their pension obligations. Can you spell Detroit?"

While true, even if we were to switch to a 401K type, would the city actually pay what they pledge? Most companies that have 401k options pay a little bit into the whole system, and it's obviously deductible. Would the city actually pay? If so, they are on the hook for something, which is pretty much the same as a pension. All of the keyboard warriors who bash public pensions don't want you to know that though. Instead, even though their private sector companies pay them X to perform X services, and X plus X in contributions, they have a hard time understanding that a public pension is basically the same thing, except that they sit behind a desk - hedging bets - while you are out in the "community" taking care of Consituents.

Last month I ran down to Chicago from Minnesota to get the last load of stuff from our family home as we prepared to sell it.

This task would require the rental of a U Haul trailer.

As I hit Madison Wisconsin I called the large U Haul facility nearest to my family home with the expectation of swinging by on the way in and picking one up. There were none available.

I had a few hours to go on my drive so I started working the phone looking for a trailer. There were none available in the city or any surrounding suburbs.

Thinking on my feet I called Rockford Illinois. There was one trailer available. Only one. I secured the reservation.

When I arrived to pick up my trailer I asked the guy behind the counter why it had been so difficult to find a trailer. I assumed because it was the last day of the month and perhaps kids were moving into college housing...

"Nope" the gruff ex Berwyn cop explained, "Everybody is moving out of Illinois" we don't have inventory; it's all out of state.

Good luck with that whole soda pop tax thing. I'll be up here fishing.

The always informative & protective local media states that the 80 year old Lincoln Park lady who was pushed to the ground & robbed of her purse was confronted by 'kids,' then it's 'children.' Who wants to stay in a city that gives no description of offenders to watch out for? Surely that's store security footage somewhere in Lincoln Park with a photo of these apple-cheeked youths. (If the offender is White, videos/photos are immediately shown. Don't want to offend/stereotype what is already true/imflame sensivities in this city.) This city wants your taxes, but could care less for your safety.

I keep telling you boys and girls. ARKANSAS is the answer..... Retired in 2004 with 31 years and left for Mountain Home , AR. with in a month of retirement. Get out as soon as you can. Retirement is great in the right place and Chicago is not that place. We have very low crime, great people from all over the country and NO LOW INFORMATION VOTERS... and thats the MAIN REASON for getting out of Chicago. Down here we dont feel terrible about " RAISING OUR CHILDREN " ,Teaching them right from wrong ( Looting, robbing, killing each other IS WRONG FOLKS) you know ,basic civility
Retire and leave Chicago, Convince mama that its only a 8 hour ride back to see the Grown Children at Christmas and such and its a Million Miles away from all the stuff we had deal with our whole careers.

You are not seriously comparing Chicago with Detroit. Detroit was half abandoned buildings with no tax basis. Right now downtown Chicago has 20 BILLION dollars in upscale projects started and some being completed. Big time investors aren't investing in a failing city. About time someone looks at the bigger picture
As far as the pension the police and fire in Detroit kept their full pensions, other city workers took a small cut

OT: On a "residency" side note: It's funny how many 022 coppers worry if a 'non residency' clause gets passed how they feel their property value will plummet as only city workers move into 022. Well I am here to tell you I lived at 95th and Hamilton Ave and listed my house and it sold in a week for $5K under asking price (as expected) and guess what? The buyers were caucasian and NOT city workers and the house has gone up in value since my move in March. Just sayin'. On the beach people and lovin' being out of not only the city of Chicago, the county of Cook and the state of Il but out of the USA.

I heard that the smug levels have been down over 90% since march at 95th and Hamilton...coincidence?

The government officials here worry about everything but the people who are paying to keep it a flot. Highest number of gang members, highest heroine use, highest murder total, lowest conviction rate, and yes taxes / fees that out pace all of the above. The building downtown has out paced people buying them. This place is so anti Police and procrminal. What business would want to put up with all the over regulation. Who wouldn't want to move.

Leave? HELL YEAH. Retired 2 years ago, and finally found a great house in Tennessee. Huge house, beautiful wooded lot with a creek, and decent right thinking neighbors. New D/L? Yes sir, that'll be $28.00, and it's good for 8 years. New license plates for your cars sir? Coming right up...that'll be $35.00 for each car sir. No sir, we don't tax plastic bags here, or sugary drinks, and no there is no tax on bottled water. No state income tax so pension is golden. I WILL miss the blackhawks on t/v, but cable package has all NHL games so that's cool too. Maybe the 9-1/2 digit midget would like to move down here. The house next door is for sale with a huge crawl space, so he can hide a shitload of wedding dresses down there.
