Off Duty Shooting

  • An off-duty Chicago police sergeant shot an 18-year-old man during a confrontation in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the city's Far South Side, according to police.

About 5:05 a.m. Sunday, the officer was involved in a confrontation with the 18-year-old in the 11100 block of South Hermosa Avenue, according to police.

The 18-year-old was shot in the arm, and his condition was stabilized at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
Be careful out there.

Thank god he was stabilized and can now change his life for how ever long it may be-- around after during the city and hitting the ghetto lotttery and perhaps running for alder-douche

Good job sergeant. We need more aggressive officers on duty and off duty protecting our neighborhoods. Too much shit freely roaming our neighborhoods.

The 18 year old must have been on his way to his job working at a bakery when "The Man" shot him, right?

Hopefully a better story comes out. 111th & Hermosa is 1 block from the 22nd station.
There are stop signs there. But the article talks about 100th %& Wood which is 12 balks away.

Why? Article I read said the off duty confronted the subject who was acting suspiciously. Unless someone is messing with your loved ones, you or your home then who cares? No weapon recovered either?

Dumb sgt. Off duty means off duty. Why would you want to run the risk of getting killed on your off day?

"Good job sergeant. We need more aggressive officers on duty and off duty protecting our neighborhoods. Too much shit freely roaming our neighborhoods. " . . . . . .

WTF, at this climate, really? I will be buying tickets for this Sgt's benefit and your benefit also. I would say that it's OK if it only affects you alone. The worst part is you made the 18 year old bastard an instant millionaire. $$$$$$$$$$$$

As usual lots of uninformed commenters who know it all and are experts at policing. Until they are faced with duress.

I wouldn't wish what this Sgt is about to endure on my worst enemy. Stay strong Sgt. it'll work itself out!! I wish S(t)upEd would stop with the
"I've got more questions than answers" routine ...I think he said the same thing about the last Sgt's shooting before they stripped that guy.

So now, ....IPRA states that the Sgt should be taken off the street and the Supt. agreed with them. Not the 30 days as per order, but until the entire investigation is over....possibly years. He is still in a paid status, but this tells us that he is truly not behind us at all.

Be careful boys and girls. Sometimes all that is required is a call to 911. Here he thought he was doing the right thing on his way home from work and gets completely run over by the bus that is driven by our department leaders.

This sickens me!!

The 18 year old turned out to be an autistic, schizophrenic who was reported missing a few hours before. Sometimes it's not always as it seems. That's why the young man couldn't respond.

Look the other way. No reason to get involved. Call 911 if it's so important. Some people will never learn. Do we even know what this guy was doing that was so heinous that the Sgt had to get involved?
