What You Won't Hear

Assorted media outlets are making mountains out of molehills where the CR release is concerned. But here's the story behind the story:
  • If the public only knew that the majority of the beefs are BS.

There's one in my file for "inattention to duty" it was not sustained but the title of it makes it appear that we were incompetent. The silly beef was for missing seat belts in the rear seat of our car that we didn't notice at the beginning of our tour. Cops were driving the same car for two months but finally someone noticed it, reported it, and we were last to drive it so it's on us. Dumb.

Also got a beef with the same title because the cook county jail found 1 small joint of weed in our bad guys ass. Beef automatically initiated on us even though we are not allowed to strip search and would have no reason to anyway. Unfounded but Dumb. Both these are in my file and when the media sees the title of it they say "wow bad cop" but if they read the file they would see how silly it really is, but they won't cause they don't care about the truth. The truth doesn't make a good story.
A few of us here have one like that floating around. Big deal - we took our reprimand and never heard another word about it. It wasn't serious and we didn't treat it like something serious. It was dumb, we learned, we didn't do it again, kind of like a red-light ticket. It didn't make us corrupt or crooked or prone to beating people.

But the media is going to take 30 years worth of unsubstantiated beefs, many never attested to under oath, many closed due to non-cooperation, many ridiculous on their face full of lies...and tens of thousands of others that were simply "red-light tickets" - procedural violations that were corrected and forgotten shortly thereafter.

I just read an earlier thread talking about these new COPA jobs.

I thought the city was broke???

Why don't they downsize the Aldermen to 20 and take 10 Aldermen and their staffs and put them into COPA?

Now you have positions filled, but the net result is that you ONLY have 30 total Aldermen now and have SAVED money on 20 Aldermen and their staffs.

Now how come I can come up with this in 5 minutes and Preckwinkle needs months to come up with a stupid tax on soda to help support a bloated budget???

Oh, goody! So, the complaint some street whore made against me in the 1980's, saying I stole her food stamps (which she dropped when she slipped out of her shoes, getting ready to run from us)... now THAT is going to be public record? Scared of her pimp's reaction, she decides to point her finger at the only WHITE female cop in the vicinity; me. (I wouldn't have known what to do with a food stamp, much less steal one. Never knew what they were before the job.) Thank God IAD knew what was going on and tossed it. Nowadays, some foolish civilian review committee would send me to prison.

Here's a question that I wonder if anyone out there can truly answer. If there was a confidential CR obtained against someone and the accused never knew about it will it show up on this list released? Wether it was closed or not? If the list was released under the FOIA shouldn't all of them have been disclosed? Who has the power to omit any and on what grounds? I haven't seen the list so I don't know how much info or exactly what details have been disclosed on each department member's CR# history.

I was a recruit in the academy in 1978. We spent a few months training at the academy and then went to the districts for our street training. Back then, they sent us out for two weeks with an FTO and then returned us to the academy for two weeks of college classes by instructors from the City Colleges of Chicago. This was to be repeated four times, in other words, two weeks street, two weeks college classroom, two weeks street, two weeks college classroom etc until we completed 16 total weeks.

No problem, except that after we hit the street for our two weeks with our FTO, there was a teacher's strike at the City Colleges. We we ended up working the street for six or eight weeks straight including being detailed to the original ChicagoFest at Navy Pier for a week. When the strike was over, we were returned to the academy for the college classes.

Well, having experienced an extended period of time working the street, we all thought we were veteran cops now, so when we got back to the academy, the first thing they did was hold a strict formal inspection on the entire class. Literally dozens of us were nailed for all kinds of BS, long hair, improper uniform, unshined shoes etc. I stupidly assumed that I wouldn't need my blouse for college classes and was written up for "Failure to carry required police equipment". I refused to accept a reprimand. My Sgt in the academy couldn't believe I refused and called me downstairs to find out why. I told him that accepting it made it appear that I came to work without my gun or some other integral piece of equipment and not my blouse, which was ONLY required because we were recruits. To the Sgts credit, he offered to state in large block letters at the top of the reprimand after the "Failure to carry required police equipment" the word "BLOUSE". I signed it and sure enough, when I got back to my training district, I was red-flagged for having received a reprimand and the DC wanted to see me in his office. Fortunately, the DC actually praised me for standing up for myself and said these kinds of beefs can stick with you and people with access to my disciplinary history will form opinions of me based on a quick look.

FYI... 25 years later, that reprimand was still in my file.

I bet there are 100's of beefs on cops for narcotics found on their prisioners in the cook county jail during the strip search. CR automatically initiated every time. CPD can not strip search and check genitals or rectum without WC approval which won't happen and there is rarely a circumstance that would warrant it. But knowing all this a beef is still created if the county finds even a tiny amount of dope. This is in your file even though it's just SOP.

The media is listening to Loevy attorneys on this matter. And, you know how they feel. And, college professors are chiming in with their 2 cents. Nothing the cops say or their supporters will be given any weight. The liberals have their dogma and their agenda, although not factual and out of touch with reality. If you have more then a few complaints against you you are now labeled as a bad cop and you should have received heavy suspensions or been fired. I used to get one complaint a month because of the corruption going on in my district, sponsored by and covered up by the district commander. They thought they could scare me off of enforcing the law. They could not but they sure tried. Not one of those complaints ever resulted in anything except my aggravation.

Yes, now all of your friends and family will be able to read all of this and form new opinions of you. And, if you have any type of business or are in a professional field I am sure this will come up to tarnish your reputation. god help you if you ever have to testify in any court in a criminal or civil trial as the opposing attorneys will surely look up your record and try to question you in court. It is just plain wrong that cops are being treated with this special brush that violates all principles of confidentiality of personnel files that apply to the rest of the working world. I say that the personnel files, school records of every attorney and judge should now be made public.

VRI TOPIC,

While at VRI last night at 61st and Racine the LT said that everyone would be participating in a traffic mission. He then said does anyone have any questions.
A PO asked him, Can you explain what type of traffic mission will we be conducting?

The Lt(probably a cheater) then went off on a rant and rave and looked like he was about to pop a vessel.

So you as a LT ask does anyone have any questions. When someone does ask a question you go off and look like an asshole in front of everyone.

After observing this LT's irrational behavior, I participated in the traffic mission but checked off with a big fat ZERO.
Good pep talk LT, It did a lot of good.

Better than confronting the fact that half of the city is an unusable "no-go" zone, with so many "shooting" dots on the map in some areas that they are overlapped and stacked on top of each other in layers.

...as the bodies themselves are stacked in layers with the shiny new electric hoist at the improved Preckwinkle Morgue. County soda tax to fund Phase II of the mortuary expansion, I suppose.

- Got another for following a Sgts order to write an Ordinance Complaint (pre-ANOV) on a street vendor - who had a permit, but stopped to sell a ice cream, Sgt. says he has to keep moving and wasn't allowed to stop. Huh?

However, a couple of them were mistitled wrong, so now when you google my name it says, Assiciating with Felons, which was just a search, Supervior responsibilities, which I'm not a Supr. A bunch were wrong and make me look bad if you google my name. I contacted the guy who won the lawsuit to get the CR S released, and who operates the website, Citizens Police Data Website, which is the public site to show all your CR S. I told the guy that these are wrong, and his response was "that's what the City game me, I have a disclaimer on the first page which says that this might not be accurate" and refused to change them. I contacted our Legal Affiars office and the FOIA unit and got the runaround and completely blown off by these incompetent desk ass clowns that have never worked the street. So not only did these goofs release our CR s, But a lot of the information is inaccurate. 3) People wanting to be in law enforcement
4) Hope for the future of this once great country
5) felons going to prison

This election is the most historic in history, for us and of course for "the children"
look at the candidates at least with Trump we have a chance. how many people have died or committed "suicide" around the clinton tenure? What did the clintons make to have well over 200 million in their so called 'foundation?" ------------------------------------------

Wish I could answer your question but can't.

Here's my confidential CR story. Anyone have any thoughts?

One, it was non-duty related and had a criminal tinge to it but not really a criminal accusation on any level. FOP would not help and said I should get a private lawyer.

Long story short, I talked with an IAD investigator on my own and it went away. It was so far out in left field BS that I just talked with the guy.

This issue sat around for six months before it was made known to me and I was told it was because the original investigator had a heart attack and that that was the only reason. Still, I was concerned that it was an open file for so long.

I inquired a number of times if I could get a written disposition of the case as is customary for any finalized CR number.

I never, ever, received an official outcome of my case. It just plain disappeared. I still would like to see how it was resolved and what language was used.

Mind you, this was 25 years ago. Today I would probably feel the need to blow money on a lawyer.

Join me in retirement as soon as you can and STAY FETAL!

It's real. Obama is just trailing along here, thinking about golf and pardoning drug dealers and planning to start colonies on Mars. Seriously.

Russia is sending ships to Syria loaded as far down in the water as they can get -- all military equipment. Huge air transports too, more and more every day. They are going to build a permanent naval base in Syria and put in missile systems to make the whole region a no-fly zone for everyone but them.

This is not about Assad. He'll get one in the back of the head as soon as he has served his purpose. Putin and the Russian "oligarchs" have just concluded a deal with Turkey's Erdogan for a tremendous gas pipeline project, and this move is to cement Russian power into the area.

Russia is not what most people think, either -- it is a shitbox with a tremendous and growing unequal distribution of wealth (like here), it's already 20% Muslim (Russian is the second language in ISIS, by the way, so many come from there) and...

"...two out of three Russian men who died, died drunk. The country’s death rate far exceeded its birth rate: in 2000, life expectancy for men was only 58, and for women 71. The syphilis rate among girls 10 to 14—a statistical category that boggles the mind—had gone up 40 times the previous decade, and only 30 percent of boys between the ages of 15 and 17 were considered healthy. Cheap heroin from Afghanistan was rolling in, and an H.I.V. epidemic spread by dirty needles was taking hold. Predictions then were that Russia, with a population of 146 million, could become a nation of fewer than 100 million people by 2025, and hardly a superpower..." and the trend is continuing.

Next time you see Mark Donahue, grievance chairman Rich Ag-u-liar, Bill Dougherty, Sid Davis, Frank DiMaria, John Capparelli, and Greg Bell what they did for a decade????

This was winnable before the political winds blew the other direction. Shields didn't touch it but then again the above backstabbers never let him know what was going on. Angelo had this in court ant it was winnable until the McDonald video came out and then the judge lost his balls. if you would go to meetings over the last 14 years you would know this. Ask your unit rep about this. If he can't expound on the above get a new unit rep.

While some of the story was pathetic, like that moron Finnegan's number of complaints, the only Cops who never get a complaint are the ones who aren't doing anything.

You are full of shit! I would put my record of part one arrests and activity against anyone! I received numerous awards and letters of compliment from citizens. I spent most of my career on black or brown beats and never received more than a couple cr#s. Mostly started by another copper! I am not bragging, I just don't believe that you have to have a lot of beefs to be "the Police". It was not the way I was taught by my FTO but hey up is down and there are no real rules anymore...

I am retired now after a 30+ year career and did a lot of pro-active policing saving a lot of lives and asses. One thing I did learn early is you get in trouble for running your mouth at people. The only time I got into any trouble on this job is when someone clouted lied about me.

Agree with the latter. Used to lead district in activity including arrests. I have no cr's or other complaints. Maybe I've been lucky but I really think all boils down on how we conduct ourselves on the job.

I laughed a lot at citizens, just about every day. I wait till I get back in my squad car to do it.
