Sneed Plays Catch-Up....Again
Someone posted about this on 22 April......oh yeah, our readers. We spread the word on 23 April. Sneed catches up a week later:
- Sneed hears a recent recall of cop ammunition is causing concern amongst the Chicago Police Department rank and file.
Word is the recall is for ammunition which was distributed to police officers after they had gone through their annual firearms inspection, which is required once a year.
The department supplies 50 rounds of ammunition a year to each police officer after they qualify on the range.

“The Academy is currently doing an ammo swap. A few weeks ago CPD received ammunition and a small amount of rounds within the shipment didn’t meet our minimum quality assurance standards. The range staff brought this up to the manufacturer and they offered to swap the entire 100,000 round shipment with new ammunition. Per the range staff, there was never any safety risks for officers or academy staff and CPD only found a small amount that didn’t meet our specifications.”
So Sneed is a week behind getting clearance to publish information that's been out there for a while now.

Of course they're gonna say that nobody was at risk because nothing happened. If an officer was involved in a shooting and misfired or couldn't fire because of this bad ammo what would they say then? They'd find some other way to talk themselves out of it.
100,000 rounds. In other words get while you can. Once it's gone your s**t out of luck.
Only 50 rounds a year?? That does not allow for much practice in order to maintain proficiency.
Quarterly shipments?

I remember years ago there also was a news story about the city buying some bad ammo from a guy who was making it in his woodshed.
Heard a rumor that the Districts will have one Sergeant handling all the CR numbers so the commander can control the findings.

From a troll: Sneed could care less about this story. In her world, the police would be disarmed and be given no ammunition. That way black lives will matter. Rather she was sitting around, feeling particulary largese and uninspired. But she had to come up with something, anyting to meet her deadline and probably minimal contract performance requirements. So she copped (no pun intended) from this blog site and how do you say in French, shazam? Here is my column. Why is that newspaper on the bubble and about to burst? Why will we not pay a dollar for it? Why are street hawkers outside Union Station unable to give copies away for FREE on the street to commuters? Pop! Goes the weasel.
The 9mm is a decent round for target practice. The 40 cal was the choice round of the fbi. Enough said about the 40 cal. The 45 is the round that you want. It has more stopping power and makes a bigger impact.
I always buy my own 45 cal duty rounds. I use what the city gives me to hit paper targets.
SCC - I can tell by the way you accurately divided 100,000 by 50 that you're not a CPS grad. If you want to maintain your anonymity, stop dropping those obvious clues :)
The issuance of substandard ammo is yet another sign of the utter contempt that Rahm and the powers that be running the city have for the police officers in this city.
Not everyone qualified. When the problem was identified, they stopped. Always check your own ammo. If you don't know how, ask the range personnel how. Recalls come from every manufacturer. At least it was observed and acted upon quickly.
Don't forget about the gun safety day at FOP this month. Take your service weapon in and have the company reps inspect and clean it. There are quite a few officers who have never changed out magazine springs or recoil springs in over ten years. They were not meant to last that long. Get in there and take care of it.

Absolutely correct.
Anything other than 9mm is
going to be a difficult find because of the
"official" feeb transition back to 9mm
as the caliber of choice.
.40 S&W and .45 ACP of vigorous to formidable
velocity and performance is "concerning."

And before you jump up and say that is because it's what they are issued, let me quote a Navy SEAL I met last year in San Diego. " 9mm is THE choice for sidearm caliber. The 9mm of today is not the 9mm your daddy used to carry. It will do anything the 45 or 40 will do. Anything else is just chatter". So when you combine that statement with what the research has shown as far as ballistic capability, the extra rounds a 9mm gives you and the ability to get back on target faster, one can see why the 9mm is the choice of Police Departments and Army's worldwide.

Dear Jeff Cooper - you've been away for a long time. Nobody went up there and told you.
The USMC (MARSOC) is also issued the M45 MEU (SOC) pistol in (wait for it) .45acp.

A .45 ACP +P JHP of bonded construction
and vigorous velocity delivers the mail.
You just have to play your part.
9mm ammo IS better than it's ever been.
But so is every other major caliber.
Even some .38 Special loads are truly formidable now.

Speed should ALWAYS

As I recall, back in the early 90's the city was buying ammunition from a couple in Wisconsin who made the rounds in their garage. It was so weak it would bounce off of a car window and there were misfires. Junk rounds. nothing new here.
