Shootings 50% Higher

  • The number of people shot in Chicago is running 50 percent above this time last year as the city braces for the summer, traditionally its most violent period.

So far this year, at least 1,382 people have been shot in Chicago and at least 244 of them have died of their wounds. Last year at this time, 904 people had been shot, 157 of them fatally.

May already has seen summerlike gun violence. More people have been killed so far this month than in all of May 2015.

What did we say just three weeks ago? Don't hang your hat on that "decrease of the increases" in April - one month can make you look like a moron.

Hello HQ morons - are you getting the picture yet?

And there's still a week to go, including a holiday weekend - Rahm's offering time-and-one-half to everyone.

Anyone want to tell us a story? Something along the lines of "Once upon a time, there was a city where violence wasn't tolerated...."

All of the violence and shootings in this city is so under reported its disgusting. Yet, the media still is running their anti-police strategy. It's as if their agenda is to promote more murders and shootings. It's sad. This city has gone to hell. Accountability only exists if you're a police officer. Everyone in those communities is exempt from being accountable for the city's current state. Every police officer needs to take a good look at their family, friends and their career and make the right choice to just answer calls and do the minimum. The media and all the reverends and alderman would rather see a front page that shows a police officer being blamed......again. Every cop needs to adopt the philosophy of rahm: CYA.

Well for starters ... All the good fairy tales start with once upon a time so maybe that could be new standard opening for SCC when ever talking about city government or democrats ...hell I don't think I'm going to far out on a limb in saying your far more likely to meet the tooth fairy than you are to see a liberal come up with a policy that works ... If life is an I.Q. test a lot of people in the city have failed...but seriously what your watching and have been watching for a couple of generations in places like Detroit Chicago Newark Camden Baltimore East St.Louis is de evolution of society... How long would it take the places I mentioned above to be back to loin clothes and dragging their balls threw picker bushes if they were some how isolated and without some level of sanity being imposed upon them by the outside world...

This could do the trick:

The newly elected mayor of Cebu City, Philippines has offered a bounty on criminals killed or wounded by police officers. He has given a policeman several hundred dollars who shot two of three robbers recently.

Also important, he says "I am here to assist the police, not prosecute them."

He added that he was also not going to suppress vigilantes.

This has been on the internet. Look it up to read the articles.

The Nationwide Crime Wave Is Building

As the homicide rate keeps rising in many cities, even some who dismissed the ‘Ferguson effect’ admit the phenomenon is real.

By Heather Mac Donald
May 23, 2016

Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey has again drawn the wrath of the White House for calling attention to the rising violence in urban areas. Homicides increased 9% in the largest 63 cities in the first quarter of 2016; nonfatal shootings were up 21%, according to a Major Cities Chiefs Association survey. Those increases come on top of last year’s 17% rise in homicides in the 56 biggest U.S. cities, with 10 heavily black cities showing murder spikes above 60%.

“I was very worried about it last fall,” Mr. Comey told a May 11 news conference. “And I am in many ways more worried” now, he said, because the violent-crime rate is going up even faster this year.

Mr. Comey’s sin, according to the White House, was to posit that this climbing urban violence was the result of a falloff in proactive policing, a hypothesis I first put forward in these pages last year, dubbing it the “Ferguson effect.” The FBI director used the term “viral video effect,” but it is a distinction without a difference. “There’s a perception,” Mr. Comey said during his news conference, “that police are less likely to do the marginal additional policing that suppresses crime—the getting out of your car at 2 in the morning and saying to a group of guys, ‘What are you doing here?’ ”

The reaction to Mr. Comey’s heresy was swift. White House spokesman Josh Earnest immediately accused the FBI director of being “irresponsible and ultimately counterproductive” by drawing “conclusions based on anecdotal evidence.”

Mr. Comey’s dressing-down was the second time he has been rebuked by his bosses for connecting the crime increase to a drop in proactive policing. Last November, President Obama accused Mr. Comey of trying to “cherry-pick data” and pursuing a “political agenda” after the FBI chief spoke of the “chill wind” blowing through American law enforcement since the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Mo., in August 2014.

But the evidence is not looking good for those who dismiss the Ferguson effect, from the president on down. That group once included Richard Rosenfeld, a criminologist at the University of Missouri, St. Louis, who was an early and influential critic. Mr. Rosenfeld has changed his mind after taking a closer look at the worsening crime statistics. “The only explanation that gets the timing right is a version of the Ferguson effect,” he told the Guardian recently. “These aren’t flukes or blips, this is a real increase.”

A study published this year in the Journal of Criminal Justice found that homicides in the 12 months after the Michael Brown shooting rose significantly in cities with large black populations and already high rates of violence, which is precisely what the Ferguson effect would predict.

Let's look into Van dyke, like the coppers in Baltimore that were overcharged (Code word for should not of been charged at all), the only thing Van dyke is guilty of is preventing a thug from killing or maiming someone nothing more nothing less! The pain and suffering that him and his family has been put through by the mayor (stupidly spewing venom), the exempts (be aggressive we got you back as they turn the knife), the whore media and black lies matter sprinkle in the fake "men of God" and the stage is set! What was done here is totally not just unacceptable but unconscionable.

Now on topic, 50% higher are you serious mayor? Your the CEO of this city, but yet you had that secret meeting on the southwest side promising 2 new schools costing how much mayor? Of course you did not reveal that correct? You still did not deposit the big tax hike money in the police pension fund why? the media has blamed police for this tax hike and they are forever after police but yet we took that heat and you apparently lied where is the money?Your building schools, while the chiraq blood flows everywhere, but yet as usual you and your liberal ballerina friends who are cowards will not open academy 27/7 and hire thousands of police!

Mayor nothing new your tax base is leaving, i know you say "downtown is booming" Ok sure really pathetic don't you agree sir?

Is space so precious that misleading and just plain wrong terms have to be used? Guns are not violent. Saying "gun violence" is wrong and misleading. I wouldn't own a "violent" gun. But I own several of different makes and models. I suspect the majority of the time, you mean minority violence. No, I think that is always what you mean because white perpetrators are always identified when they're involved.

So we're all passengers aboard the cruise ship "City of Chicago" merrily sailing along at 3/4 throttle, blissfully unaware of the rocks dead ahead. Radar/sonar occasionally shows a blip, but the captain is too busy playing Monopoly to notice and instead maintains course and speed.

Finally the radar/sonar image is solid and alarms go off that can't be ignored. The captain begins scrambling to avoid a disastrous collision. But it's a cruise ship, not a kayak. Even after the danger is recognized and orders given to avoid a collision, it keeps on plowing towards the rocks. Too little, too late. Momentum.

The momentum of this city is all in the wrong direction and none of it in the right, courtesy of decades of Democrat corruption and cronyism and Madigan's out-of-control ego. Serve the people, my ass. If Rahm and Madigan were gone tomorrow, how long would it be before Chicago makes a noticeable course correction? Five years? A decade? Never? Who's got that much time? Who can afford the gamble?

Every other major City in the USA has Trauma Centers for its people, except Chicago, who is too busy squandering Taxpayer Dollars on things like a Star Wars Museum and LGBT friendly bathrooms, and much other nonsense. Imagine being a child who gets shot, or falls off their bicycle and sustains a serious head injury, on the southeast side of Chicago, and have to be transported all the way out to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, or another suburban Trauma Center, when everyprecious second counts.
Of course, to Chicago Politicians, only the $$$ they can pocket are what counts to them.

Arresting a person for one bag only puts a target on an officer's chest. The city and Obama don't support narcotics enforcement and they don't have the courage to come out and said it. So what they are doing is making the police the bad guys for enforcing the laws that are on the books. You stop some junkie and things go South,it is the officer who is going to be holding the bag, and that bag is going to be full of sh__t!

Poor Officer Wison had all the probable cause in the world to arrest Brown for a felony. He took a low key approach to him and was attacked. In the process of defending himself he shoots and kills this felon. According to the media, the guy in the White House and the evil grandmother running for president Wilson is the bad guy.

I don't know what Wilson is doing today. Probably picking up cans to sell to support his kids.

Think about Wilson when you decide to stop the next person who you suspect is holding a bad of dope. Think about the CPD officer cleaning the toilets at the union hall. You could be next. Cops are suppose to be smart, be smart, use you survival instincts to protect yourself.

I asked these clowns what sort of protection we would have from civil suits from their actions as we are not officers of the court. They didn't have a good answer. I told them that I was not about to be low paid grunt labor for their drug enforcement grand standing. We all got up and walked out of the room. The Governor of Wyoming told the DEA what they could do with their plan, and where the could stick it.

Once upon a time there was a City where everybody got along (well, mostly) and the States Attorneys Office liked us, believed us, and backed us. When Jack O'Malley was the CCSA, we not only had someone who had been there (as the pope, but we also had a voice. We need to ensure that Kim Fox doesn't get in, Anita stays out and someone who knows us and has seen us work gets in. One big way to change the complexion of the Blue Hate is to support a former States Attorney who actually cared about us and understands what we go through. Christopher Pfannkuche was an ASA for many years out of Skokie Courthouse. He is going to be running in Fall of 2016 against famous liar Kim Fox. She is being funded by the Democratic Party. Pfannkuche will be funding himself. Let's show Rahm and the City and the Dems and the Haters that CPD can stand together and stand strong. Let's be a voice for ourselves. I know Pfannkuche from time spent in court. I get nothing out of this except the satisfaction of knowing my brothers and sisters in blue will still be protected. I am leaving soon so it will benefit me in no way to see a Republican as CCSA. I will only have the satisfaction of knowing that not every copper who has to defend himself or the people of the City of Chicago by means of lethal force will go to jail. Vote Christopher.

A. No. Not on the 9 either. It would not be allowed to have any live ammo on board. Our BCP will tell you about the "dog shit on a stick" game that would start.

Look at photos from the '60s of the Guard out, Garands and fixed bayonets doing a wedge up the street, and no one even troubling themselves to move off the stoop with their beverage in a paper bag, no one bothering to even look up. Some citizens learned that no one gonna do s__t -- 50 years ago.

Here -- something that used to be even worse than an Abrams. 1961 Plymouth Fury, obviously used for give-and-take out there.

5/24/2016 07:00:00 PM

Naw. No conspiracy. Just old infrastructure. Most of the lead is covered with "hard water" calcium scale and goes nowhere. Have to read up on urban history, there are probably still some water pipes that were made of bored-out wood logs. I saw them, and old wooden-boxed Chicago sewers as well.

Point is that we moved forward.

Here, we raised the streets, turned the Chicago River around, did everything we could for health and sanitation.

Flint, MI is a bureaucratic aberration, not a failure of infrastructure or some "racist" plot. Local politics resulted in $100/month of alum not being used, therefore the water pH changed and crap began to dissolve back off the old pipes again in a big way. Political problem, not engineering problem.

Plumbers don't wanna hurt anyone. Tired when they get up, more tired when they get home. The local City Council, well...stuffin their pockets, right?

That'd be a surprise.\

You are 100% correct, people don't like the police, or respect the police. But they feared the police, now they don't fear the police. Without one of the three you cannot do your job out there. I remember when I came on the job two officers could handle 10 gangbangers on any corner, now you need 10 officers to handle 2 gang bangers.

City of Chicago shirking its responsibility to its citizens to provide close by Hospital Trauma Centers for quick treatment for severe injuries.

5/24/2016 12:17:00 PM

Rip Van Winkle, a new trauma center was announced (in the Fall of 2015) at U of C in Hyde Park. Somehow, you missed this news?

And from the Trib: "There are four adult trauma centers in the city: Stroger Hospital and Mount Sinai on the West Side, Northwestern Memorial Hospital on the Near North Side and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center on the North Side. Other Level 1 adult trauma centers in Cook County are in Oak Lawn, Maywood, Park Ridge and Evanston"

This is a "trend" across this nation. There is a phenomenon in our cities. According to Colin Flaherty-journalist (YouTube it) the violence has always existed in the ghettos of America. He does back the claim with facts. The bigger concern is that the violence is spreading into the suburbs and beyond. Unfortunately our liberal media refuses to cover the "true" story.

And now another hit Piece

In 2015, newly-elected Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner froze funding (totaling $4.7 million) for Operation CeaseFire, a national initiative that employs and tasks former gang leaders and felons with intervening in the exact type of feuds that lead to unnecessary deaths. In 2013, maligned Mayor Rahm Emanuel did not renew a one-year, $1 million dollar contract for CeaseFire programs in two Chicago neighborhoods.

Is it any surprise that these arguments have become the norm?

The above post bears repeating.

5/24/2016 11:44:00 PM

We'll see your Repeat and raise you another one...
This point deserves it's own post, SCC.

The difference in how the FBI shooting was
covered lies in the collusive, corrosive and
corrupt relationship between Suite 500 at
City Hall, the local media agit-prop apparatus
and the yellow-pinky progressive led catered-to
constituency that make up part of the deeply
entrenched perpetual grievance industrial
complex.

As long as there are Policemen who elect
to decisively insert themselves between
society and those creatures who exist only
to eat society hind parts first while it grazes
happily, stupidly and cluelessly; there will
NEVER be an end to the biased, craven,
hateful, lip-smackingly smug, leftist liberal
revenge fantasy slant in media coverage
pertaining to CPD.

Cue:
The usual joyful haters with a lot
of time on their hands but nothing
to offer other than a bunch of "sit
down and shut-up cuz we pay
your salaries."

Somehow, they think that the
public ritual sacrifices, violence
and festering malaise inflicted
on this city by the low denominator
sub-set of of society will somehow
just stop and go away if The Police
could just be forcibly walked back-
wards from vitally important things
like due process, administrative
rights and the ability to collectively
bargain.

Is it because the corporate world
has divested of these things in the
name of the bottom line?

"Why should YOU COPS get what we ain't got?"
How sour can those grapes possibly be?

Just an observation...

This was one genuine hardheaded m___erf__er, livin the good life. If the police didn't lay some in there, it's just a vast silence.

God damn. Other people have some street cred too. 50 years old? That is only A & O in a parallel universe of killing. The tats are fading on flabby arms by now as the interminable "You know Teabag? Yeah." stuff goes on in the wire-mesh underground bullpens preparing the next busload for their ninth trip downstate.

"Do not pull on the chain. It f__ed up enough as it is."

I was there to see it when this crew today first started scratching their s__t on the walls ca. 1964 -- Hyde Park surrounded on three sides of no-go zone, and water to the east -- after the U of C's congenial local "ministers" and "sociologists" gave them a head start by teaching them how to apply for "community development grants." As we can clearly see, that seed money for their dope business still echoes today as shots and coppers yelling and busting out glass and quick-reversing their cars back for cover. Various "urbanologists" -- uh, Pierre? -- inveighed against "block-busting" and "irrational panic moves out of the area" until THEIR wives were assaulted on the lakefront and they suddenly disappeared, to regale us with their "theories" from a safer distance.

There is no polite way to state the observable truth; the now-standard and utterly predictable pictures of people wailing OMG and collapsing and holding each other up off the cement after the authorities were forced to sling down tight and five-rounds-rapid eliminate the latest major-class vermin next door told me everything I needed to know about that "community" and its "core values."

It was -- it is -- a disgusting spectacle that is repeated daily, and it makes things awfully hard on the poor elderly lady in her one pair of good orthopedic shoes who is out there at 5 AM praying to get to her job at the drugstore and back alive. I pray for her and for myself and for all of us who are trying to get through the day.

Like my dic buddy says, "We all owe a death." I would like to think that we could also get some sleep and go out for an ice cream cone every 10 years or so while we are still around...

Stay safe. God bless all here.

Yes.

The decline of Western Civilization began when morality was split off from the conduct of everyday affairs -- as in "It's just business."

"Why should YOU COPS get what we ain't got?"
How sour can those grapes possibly be?

Sour enough that I had somebody who I think has lived off some trust fund for his entire adult life blow on me the other day.

"YOU'RE NOT ELDERLY!"

Hey, guy, the man will keep coming with the diapers and the oxygen cannulas as long as you answer the phone. Plenty to go around, not like I'm hiving them up here to keep for myself.
