Brass Brags, Woman Killed by HQ (UPDATE)

  • In a crackdown on the city's burgeoning violence, Chicago police have carried out an extensive gang takedown, arresting nearly 100 people on the department's "strategic subject list" — those believed to be the most prone to violence.

Just last week, following the bloodiest weekend since he became superintendent, Eddie Johnson said much of the bloodshed is being driven by about 1,300 people on the list, compiled with the aid of a computerized algorithm.

Calling the initiative the Police Department's "largest raid in recent history," Anthony Guglielmi, the department's chief spokesman, said 140 people were arrested on narcotics and weapons charges starting at 4 a.m. Thursday in the violence-plagued Harrison and Austin patrol districts on the West Side. Ninety-five of the 140 people are gang members, he said.

Over $45,000 worth of narcotics ranging from heroin to cocaine was recovered, along with 26 illegal guns, he said.
Nice sweep, but as Eddie has said, unless these felons are getting five and ten years behind bars, they're just going to keep re-offending.

But while the presser is letting out....
  • A woman who was walking out of a coffee shop was fatally shot and a man was wounded in a shooting about a block from Chicago police headquarters on the South Side Friday afternoon, police said.

The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. outside a Starbucks at 35th and State Streets when a gunman opened fire on a man, a documented gang member, who was struck several times, said Supt Eddie Johnson near the scene of the shooting.

The coffee shop is across the street from the headquarters parking lot and across the street from the edge of the Illinois Institute of Technology campus.

The woman was an innocent victim in her 40s who was walking out of the coffee shop when she was shot in the chest, police said.

[...] The shooting happened as Chicago police brass, including Johnson, were ending a press conference at police headquarters where he and others had been touting the arrests of dozens of gang members in a CPD sweep.
That's just bad timing, literally in the backyard of HQ where tens of dozens of coppers get their coffee every morning.

UPDATE: Deceased is a 311 Operator.

I worked 35th Street for a few years from 2007-2010, its was bad then and is bad know. There were a few murders at 35th & Prairie by the stop signs a year or two ago. The crappy store "jimmys" has been nothing but a drug hangout for the gangbangers at 36th & Prairie. And I see coppers walking over to the subway everyday not knowing they are being watched by the drug addicts that hang around the currency exchange. Hell one of them use to wash cars at the old 021st district. There needs to be a four man foot patrol there everyday but the CO of 002 TW doesn't have a clue about real police work, never has never will. He should have been replaced along time ago with someone of substance. Sorry residents of Beat 211, it is not the 1st murder and will not be the last this year. Enjoy summer. And please please keep eddie off the camera, I am getting so sick of his bullshyt heart felt replies! Go comfort your exam cheating fake girlfriend.

My condolences to the family, may she rest in peace.

Notice how they keep referring to it as a coffee shop. No media hacks. You know it was a starbucks. Not just any coffee shop. They intentionally avoid writing starbucks so as not to scare the liberals and tourists away. Oh my god its not even safe to go in a starbucks in chicago. I bet if she was walking out of a chickfilla they would state "chickfilla" 100 times in the article. How can these liberal media fucks look at themselves in the mirror after writing these articles. Hey media hacks, you wanna know why this city and co7ntry are so fucked up. Its because you, the supposed watchdogs of the govt, are in bed with these democratic fucks instead of exposing them. Got to wonder how many squads the gunman's vehicle drove past before reaching the shooting scene? And how many times that car would have been stopped if there wasn't a "war on police officers" with law suits, ISRs, and FBI/DOJ oversight. This shooting is another consequence from bad choices made by politicians.

Don't you think that if CPD and FBI intelligence knows the whereabouts of the 1,300+ individuals that are causing the gang violence in Chicago that the most cost effective solution is to eliminate not arrest these people? Place a bounty on their heads and hire ex. British SAS, or SEAL, Delta Force etc.to hunt these animals down and restore order. Those that are not eliminated will most likely be shitting in their pants and turn themselves in. Yes, you may have a few months of extreme violence but then calm will most likely be restored. The US Government does the same essential thing in Yemen, Syria and Iraq with drone strikes, SEAL raids, etc under the guise of protecting American citizens. George Orwell stated "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf". If Chicago spent $10 Million on such a program, it would save in my estimate 10-20 fold in medical, economic and other costs. But Toni, Rahm, Dart, Jesse and other pussy's don't have the stomach for such action.

A few homicides have happened by HQ!

But don't worry firemen will save us with their yellow vest.
The department actually pays an officer 75K to sit in a booth and let us in a parking lot.
Since few exempts have any training in securing a facility this will never be corrected.

a 40K xray scanner sits in the front of HQ while pedophiles line up watching exempts stroll in late with out vest.

You get the point since i don't work there i only shake my head when I go down their and watch (FAT)exempts work out in a nifty gym for more than an hour.

"Lock his a__ up 'fore he get shot!"

Boy, the social theorists have been at work here. That one phrase contains enough material to write a master's thesis about utter weirdness.

Q. What the hell kind of city is full of both "Documented Gang Members" and "Undocumented Immigrants?"

A. "Sanctuary City!" Today, you can take your pick.

If you can cut off federal funding to cities that won't put in special "Welcoming Bathrooms" for approx. .03% of the population, you can sure as hell do it to cities that refuse to comply with ICE holds on illegal aliens with violent criminal records.

Years ago, probably near 30 years and long before CPD HQ was at 35th & Michigan, an IIT security officer was at the security desk in the building on the NW corner of 35th & State, which has a first floor like a terrarium, when gang-bangers from the long-gone State Street public housing projects started shooting. One of the bullets went through the plate glass window and struck the IIT security officer, killing him. He was a nice man, but cannot remember his name at the moment. He was an Irishman who got a bad deal of the cards.

Wasn't getting rid of the projects suppose to end all the gang-banging, drug-dealing and homicides in Bronzeville? And, before the projects were dismantled, wasn't putting the CPD HQ, now the Public Safety Building, at 35th & Michigan suppose to bring law and order to Bronzeville? Apparently both innovations were part of a very long range strategy that has yet to bear fruit.

And, suburbanite whities park at and near 35th & Michigan for the Sox games because what bad could ever happen by Police Headquarters and the Starbucks formerly much frequented by Jodi Weiss and Michael Masters?

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Ready on the left? Ready on the right? Fire at will gang-bangers!

RIP to the 311 Operator and condolences to her family. I am sorry that she had to work, live and senselessly lose her life in Chiraq By The Lake.

That is true, why off topic are so many of the "brass' looking like cows going to eat! thought "fitness" was important! No back on topic, the savages don't care where they shoot, who they kill, look at the expressways, it was at 1 time the "dirty Dan Ryan" called that due to insane drivers, now all Chicago expressways are like a human pinball game where you dodge and swerve and hope to not be the next contestant in the mad max film "Are we dead yet?" Another disgrace, the beaches were ruined by savages, Lincoln park people being robbed shot, downtown game is "You risk your life" terrible leadership. Remember a "fish stinks from the head down" so the head is rahm a leader leads, we don't have that here we have a panderer on the 5th floor in city hall.

Thinking about the "fifth floor" rahm,Toni and across the way Eddie and his gold star crew are on the "fifth floor" at headquarters, maybe they should move down a floor, like no 13th floor in buildings, no gate 13 in airports maybe the "fifth floor" has some superstitious value grounded in reality!

Members of one of El Salvador’s most violent gangs are rounded up in their underwear after pleading with police not to arrest them because ‘they are an integral part of society’

* El Salvador gang members seen jailed en-masse north of the capital
* Imprisonments came shortly after after a 72-hour gang ceasefire
* In exchange for truce, they asked government to stop 'war on gangs'
* Murder rate up to around one person an hour in the last three months

"...they asked the government to hold off applying new and exceptional tactics to combat them, arguing they were an integral part of society.

"However, El Salvador's police chief, Howard Cotto, rejected the truce, saying 'there is no negotiation of any sort with any type of criminal organization'.

"'We have nothing to talk about with members of criminal organizations. Our job is to investigate and bring to justice those who commit crimes,' he said."

https://tinyurl.com/j6px8q9

The lockups are great, too. Rebar is cheap and available. Designed for 72 hours, so what's a year or so?

https://tinyurl.com/zfs5yww

"In January, the Salvadoran government authorized the police to shoot 'without any fear of suffering consequences' if threatened by gang members."

I worked at headquarters for a few years, but it drove me crazy to be at a desk. Tried to get out with no luck, so I retired. But I have to say, this was very ballsy to shoot and kill 1 of 2 people right by headquarters. But then again, 99 percent of cops assigned there probably don't even load their gun, if they remember it. Just goes to show their is no fear of the police left in Chicago. The politicians and brass have to take credit for this. The only thing missing is keeping flowers in our holsters instead of a pistol. If Eddie wants to lay blame for the outrageous number of shootings, arresting the criminals will not make any difference, the problem lies with the fact that any proactive policing will get you fired and/or indicted.Keep appeasing the reverends and BLM. When the department is castrated, the savages are allowed to take over. It's not rocket science.

Stop arresting rapists, murderers and child molesters for drug and weapons charges. Arrest the hoodlums who fill the street with profanities and yell charges against females who they are trying to sex traffick. Why does dispatch never know what victims are complaining of when they call for assistance when the hoodlums are assaulting the neighborhood? The entire Police Department should know of these hoodlums/gang/terrorists. This is why they are not getting the 135 years to life sentences they should be getting.

Somewhat O/T but relevant:

Those scanners have been off because the
Officers assigned to run them have been
diagnosed with assorted Cancers.

Ask around...
How many desk and lock-up personnel
have been sickened and killed by Cancer
and assorted ghastly upper respiratory
ailments?

Which CPD station houses were/are
known cancer and upper respiratory
hot-spots?

CPD facilities are in a regulatory black
hole by design. The city is deathly afraid
of an investigation that will require several
generations of Officers and their survivors
being made at least partially whole.

But never mind...
You Cops think too much of yourselves
when you voice a concern.

Several years ago, SCC ran some pictures
that were contributed by "The Spirits of The Air"
showing poisonous mold, cracking/peeling
asbestos insulation and other environmental
hazards that would spur a fedgov response if
similar conditions were found in a
catered-to constituent's tax-payer
subsidized dwelling.

And a sure as shit-fire 5 to 7 digit fine plus multiple
years in prison for the building owner/agent plus
ruinous civil rights litigation...

For Policemen?
Meh... Not so much...

Second class citizens by virtue of
a sworn oath and condition of employment.

"I walk to that Starbucks three or four times a week and I carry a gun."

Empty it out and put it in the drawer until you internalize "This weighs less than two pounds and it it the heaviest thing anyone will ever carry."

"This is out of control."

Has been since 1964 or so.

New here. Listen more, learn much, and talk a whole lot less.

Deal?

They could call for and must call for massive police hiring, and also call for the elected to "back-off" on bastardizing police constantly, and support all police! Sorry just woke up from that dream the savage animals will continue to slaughter the innocents, be it on the streets, the expressways terrible leadership=terrible results. thew old computer saying "garbage in garbage out" describes city hall and exempt leadership!

Uh -- where you just wander in from? You detached from current events? Not just here, but everywhere.

CPD has been prevented from policing.

Citizen here, TELL ME can city workers qualify to legally wear body armor and kevlar helmets? This s t is getting really really out of hand now.

5/21/2016 10:49:00 AM

Purchase and wear of body armour by private citizens is unregulated. Wear while in commission of a crime is an additional felony. bulletproofme dot com has reasonably priced used/overstock soft armour which is reasonably concealable but you're gonna be uncomfortable in summer. Wearing a helmet is for goofs.

He's already mandated to wear a helmet lest his insurance is void.

---------------------
I remember the incident like it was yesterday as I was the first car on the scene. The offenders were standing under the building shooting and a dude that had supposedly raped a woman in the building. Victim was running across 35th street when the residents opened up on him. He was hit and killed and came to rest inside the revolving doors leading to the IIT buildind. When my partner and I pulled up we saw dude laying inside the doors and went to check em out. As we were standing there, IIT police came running out of the building ( they had there own police department at the time) and were pointing into the lobby and telling us that one of their own had been hit. I ran into the lobby looking for the victim and the IIT guys were pointing at their security guard who was sitting in a chair at his desk with his eyes open. I walked up and saw that he had taken one to the temple and was dead. The dude inside the revolving doors died too. The rape allegation against him wasn't even true. 3 or 4 duds were arrested and convicted for the murders and IIT had a nice memorial service for the guard who was from Scotland and was a real nice guy. After that incident IIT moved the security desk and had bulletproof windows installed. Really tragic.

Sad for the family of this woman who didn't come home from work. Even in broad daylight in the middle of the work day, there are some areas of the city that just aren't safe. The criminals have become emboldened because of the media attacks on the CPD and other LEO"s throughout the US.

What about the rights of this woman and her family? How many more innocent victims will be lost as the criminal element is coddled by the politicians who are only interested in their election campaigns?

All of us are expendable as far as the political class are concerned. They're as dirty as the misfit who pulled the trigger.

Actually found a news clip about it. 05 April 1991. His name was Thomas Kaufman. Used to see him all the time at "32 and the Bash".
