Stupidity Abounds

  • Police across the United States are rethinking how they use force amid national outrage over questionable shootings and violent arrests.

The changes include efforts in Dallas to train officers to de-escalate situations by moving backward during target practice and arming some with sponge projectiles rather than guns. In Camden, New Jersey, officers are taught about the sanctity of life and encouraged to take time to defuse a situation, even if a suspect is wildly waving a knife at them.

After months of work, nearly 200 law enforcement leaders gathered in Washington on Friday to review and discuss new guiding principles that, if enacted by the roughly 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the United States, would significantly remake how policing has been done for decades. The 30 principles include an unprecedented acknowledgment from leading law enforcement professionals that officers should go beyond the Supreme Court-adopted basic legal standard that asks what a "reasonable officer" would do in such a situation, and that officers should focus on preserving all human lives in any encounter.
Um, we do that already. And the overriding "preserving" is our own lives, first and foremost.
  • The group's principles, which will be released officially in an upcoming report, also require officers to respond proportionally to a suspect, imagining the public's perception of that response, and to communicate effectively instead of, for example, repeatedly telling a suspect to drop the weapon. The principles also recommend departments stop training on what it called "outdated concepts," such as the "21-foot-rule," which refers to the distance an armed suspect with a knife can close before an officer can draw their weapon. Instead, officers are encouraged to create more distance and use cover, so that they give themselves more time to respond.
  • A CHP officer was left with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed by a homeless man in San Francisco Tuesday, authorities said.

The attack occurred around 10 a.m. on an on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 80 and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, California Highway Patrol and San Francisco police officials said.

A seven-year veteran CHP officer was being treated at San Francisco General Hospital, and the man suspected of attacking him was in police custody.
These people are morons.

These eggheads think that police kill people willy-nilly. Most PO's go out of their way and seriously endanger themselves in an effort NOT to use deadly force. The eggheads writing this policy have no clue as to what kind of mentality there is out on the streets today or any idea of the dynamics of physical confrontations.

SCOTUS has ruled that police officers do not have to unreasonably endanger their lives .

What the "community" doesn't or can't understand that sometimes deadly force is the only option. And most police are reluctant to use it even tho it is totally justified and the only reasonable action.

If you are a reasonably aggressive working copper you could probably justifiably shoot 3 people a year. But most police don't even shoot one person in a 25 year career. Instead of 20 Officer involved shootings, there could be hundreds.

A entire segment of society has lost all sense of responsibility. They feel that they are entitled to do whatever they feel like doing at that instant with no negative repercussions.

I would say that these morons, more than almost any other officer, should know that we don't just make up policies, they are born out of necessity and confirmed by Supreme Courts. However, they are leaders/brass and to advise them how policing works would be futile considering most of them have never been the police.

I hope the morons also determine how far cops should back up. I like the idea of backing up right in the squad and driving as far as possible from the scene in order that the POS can, without the presence of the cops to intimidate them, re-examine his/hers life choices.

As a citizen who reads SCC faithfully every day for the real deal on whats going on I am finding it hard to understand the sheer amount of crap and pandering that goes on. I just dont understand how this city or hell this nation can survive without law and order. Cut the balls off the police and its going to be anarchy and mayhem in short time. We may be there already but these people are about ready to push it over the edge. Stay safe officers. You are being used and its sad.

How about a 24 hour 7 day a week Revrunds Service to help you de-escalate the situation?

You set up the perimeter and they can deal with the drugged up thugs, un-drugged mental cases, and domestic drama?

Having been lucky enough to travel to Scotland - there is no way that you can compare the threat level that Scottish Police face vs. the threat level is the USA. You can't compare the high level of respect that The Scots have for the law and their constables to the low level of respect for the law that your ghetto dweller exhibits. I hope that Chuck Wexler and his PERF clan had the time to compare Single Malt Scotches. Maybe they could have asked the Scottish Police how they felt when they finally prosecuted the Pan Am bomber only to have him released early. Now there is a common problem -'handling political interference!

The vaunted LAPD have introduced a "Preservation of Life Award" for officers who risk their lives with suspects they could have shot but didn't.

Who wants to get the first one of those, posthumously.

No difference here. These jamooks are seeking limelight & placating the public.

I can't believe that I'm reading this shit. It just goes to prove that not all mental health facilities are closed.

Although they are right about one thing. The "21-foot-rule" is an "outdated concept." It should be changed to 40 feet.

I have just a few years to go. I feel sorry for officers just starting now as they will never know pro-active police work and won't know how to do it once the pendulum swings back. On top of that, you are going to have mass retirements in the next couple years. Crime is going to be epic and the officers response should simply be "I am following the law and directives of Illinois and my department."
I also love how these new initiatives are thought up by "executives" who do not do anything remotely related to dealing with criminals. SMH

21 foot rule outdated? Maybe an officer's estate can sue their department after they get shanked to death. Creating distance to give time is good from a tactical standpoint as it gives options but if push comes to shove it's unfair to assume you can get everyone to drop a weapon every time.

This is what they want. Hurt or dead officers, instead of hurt or dead criminals. All of this because not one political appointed hack chief, has the balls to call out the black communities and their propensity for violence. Un-fucking believable. All of these ideas and not one was mandatory sentencing for repeat gun offender. Or charge gun offenders federally. Or mandatory 10 years for repeat violent offenders. Or deportation of illegal violent offenders. People wake up. All this is being done while the safety of your family will be in jeopardy. Loosening laws, not arresting people, taking certain crime off the books, less police, less police willing to act, etc... This is all off the backs of you tax payer (majority white). This is their plan and it's working because no one is leading us. The blacks "protest" with the hippy whites and millennials. Nobody protests for whats right, because nobody takes the initiative. How about we start getting all the pro police marches together again. But, this time don't cancel it because the alderman asks you. Or because you don't have the permits. Or because, blah blah blah. You this these feral pieces of shit have permits to lock down Michigan avenue? Or 290? Or 90/94? Someone coordinate and the fop should be involved. Fuck it, the national fop should be involved. If your have your ccw use it. To all you police out there. The times going to come when you're going to have to make a choice when this actually happens. It will just be a protest, how the blacks do, but it will be with white people. Mark my words the bosses will want you to take action, unlike when the blacks protest. Do not do it! Do not trade your soul and conscious for a political hack boss's order.

In Dallas move backward from the threat isn't that "cowardliness? Then why bother even responding to a "threat?" Lets experiment the thugs say englewood dislike (hate) police referenced by the stupidly done (obama words) lori lightfoot and her crew, lets remove police why are spending taxpayers money over 100 million on overtime to police the non-taxpaying police hating felons? Seems the people that live there don't care for the "white police" lets make englewood an experimental area, John you want ideas make englewood say a 1 year program all black (African American) officers just to see how low crime goes. Oh and we move hispanic police to mainly hispanic areas and the "white police" to mostly white (Caucasian American) areas just do it john! Charlie what you think?? Or Charlie you to busy counting all that cash your raking in?

All police service should be done over the phone. When an unknown is wanted for a crime, flyers, billboards, ads, revrund pleas, and commercials will be used to ask the individual who committed those crimes to come turn themselves in and to handcuff themselves before doing so. Therefore no mistakes can be made. The offender will place himself in a room and speak into a microphone to confess what he did all the while being recorded. The next room will have a judge and/or jury to sentence them to a slap on the wrist and be released. Imagine the crime clearing statistics.

If a 911 call is made where someone is being attacked, 911 operators will be trained to explain to the caller to try to DeEscalante the situation first and then try to create distance and take cover. The caller can then call back later to make a report where the "Turn-In Please" campaign will begin. Yes I meant to say 'Please', it's a play on words.

Police can then be back to writing parking tickets (in white areas only) unless the person comes out before the ticket is finished and tells the officer he does not want the ticket, at which time the ticket will be non-suited so as to not have an unhappy person.

I'm sure the community will begin to turn themselves and others in since they are so worried about making their 'community' better and safer.

See, no more police contact. Everythings fixed.
