Bad Idea

  • Prison population in Illinois is down, but the state’s facilities remain overcrowded.

Latest figures from the Illinois Department of Corrections show prisons in the state contained 47,483 inmates in May. That was the lowest population since May of 2010, which was 47,150.

The May 2010 numbers represent the beginning of a rapid rise in the number of prisoners flooding the system after former Gov. Pat Quinn cancelled a controversial early prisoner release program. The number of inmates peaked at 49,321 in January 2013.
That's because "early release" prisoners happened to be committing crimes as soon as they got out, in some cases, right after the bus ride downstate, they got walking papers and returned home the next day. Countless assaults, batteries, robberies, and more than a couple murders were directly attributed to Quinn's un-publicized program that essentially wrecked the justice system in Illinois.

Now, it's going to return in another form:
  • However-state prisons are designed to house only 32,000 prisoners. That’s why Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has asked a special committee to study how to reduce prison population. He wants a 25 percent reduction over the next decade.

Rauner’s commission has already stated the need for a balance between sending too many people to prison and making sure the public is safe.
Here's the thing Brucie - if people are in prison, then they can't commit crimes against most decent people. It's true - we looked it up. Of course, if they're in prison, they can't vote for democrats either, which was one of the reason behind Quinn's secret program in the first place.

You want the public to be safe, you lock up the animals in cages and make them serve 100% of their sentence. If it's long enough, they learn not to do bad things. If it isn't, then you increase the sentence next time. Then they come out too old to be complete assholes anymore. If they are, they go back to prison and they die there. Three strikes.

Knew Rauner would be a complete disaster and I'm no Democrat. He's more stupid than brilliant. Bad guys need to be in a controlled setting...in Prison....Duh!!! But put them to work...Yes, Prisoners. Clean streets, tar streets, help to wash graffiti. Much better than wallowing in jail with nothing to do but watch tv, thinking of dirty things to do when they get out. No, not suggesting paid employees lose their jobs...just let prisoners pick up some of the slack. There's always plenty to do.

Why is it so difficult for these liberal minds to understand, "take responsibility for your own actions "? Prisoners need to fear the repercussions of their own actions. Also, bring back the death penalty. It obviously would eliminate the bad guys and would eliminate wasteful costs to house the bad guys.

Are there any isolated islands in Lake Michigan that you could put about 20,000 people on? Give the first 500 tents, building supplies like lumber and tools. If they build decent barracks, they can live in them. Repeat as necessary until they build their own prison. They do well, learn some skills, then they can qualify for early release.

Want visits from your families? Behave and build a visitors center.
Want a basketball court? Build it.

Prison time for violent crimes needs to increase - quickly and soon. Say 50 to 60 years. Assuming day-for-day good behavior credit, they're still going away for 25 to 30 and walking out of there as middle-aged men. Men who screwed up and wasted their prime years in a cell. So maybe the next generation of at-risk youth will start to get the message?

One of the many problems with the libs is that these morons feel that jails and prisons are for rehabilitation. WRONG! Prisons are for punishment for their crimes against society. If these assholes get released early, the good people will be in serious trouble. With no fear of serious jail time, the streets will be lost forever.

Gitmo is being emptied out by our dear leader. Seems like the State should lease the facility from the feds. Sunny climate, nice soccer pitch, meals to order, what more could they want. Be fun to watch them trying to escape by rafts, with a following of sharks. Make them feel like a true role reversal. Being stalked by predators would be a great psych paper for a lib!

Ok here is a a fool proof plan. Make it so only white offenders go to jail. That will reduce the prison population.

There is only so much money to spend on locking people up.

There is little to no will of the voters to continue doing something that has failed miserably at its intended purpose. Somehow another way is going to need to be found.

You just can't keep locking up more and more people and effectively making them part of a group that can never get ahead. They are effectively forced into becoming lifetime criminals because they have little else they can do to survive. It is not a pretty picture. Nor do I have a perfect answer.

However, a good start would be to decriminalize victimless crimes. drugs, gambling, prostitution, etc.

Chiraq's Broken Windows economics says we need that crime so that the velocity of money increases and therefore generates tax revenue for some Rahm Emanuel bullshit like a Maggie Daley park program or something.

This just in....

CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois tourism officials say the state saw a 3.5 percent increase in visitors during 2014

We ask what kind of visitors did Chicago see?

Illegal immigrants, drug cartel members and their mules here to sell dope, illegal gun runners selling firearms to gang bangers?

Meeting the needs of an unmet market. Job opportunities. There's a great demand here in the Midwestern drug transportation hub of the USA.

Is a kid here on a student visa counted as a visitor? Is someone waiting for a connecting flight out of O'hare or Midway counted as a visitor?

Meanwhile...

New entertainment tax of 9%
Highest sales tax in the nation.
Highest gasoline price in the nation.
Highest parking fees in the nation

"Another change increases the City of Chicago personal property lease transaction tax from 8 to 9 percent effective January 1, 2015. In addition, the tax is extended to car sharing companies that were previously exempt. The City parking tax, which was last increased in 2012, is increased to 22 percent for weekday, weekly, and monthly rates, while weekend parking tax rates are increased from 18 percent to 20 percent. In addition, the amusement tax 60-40 rule is eliminated effective January 1, 2015, and amusement tax applies to the full charge for special seating areas, such as skyboxes"

More likely to be released in time for the presidential election, but Illinois has plenty of Dems already so really no need to use criminals to carry the state and besides, they're too lazy to vote anyway. So I don't think that's the reason.
When there's a school shortage, Democrats build schools.
When there's a road shortage, Democrats build roads.
When there's a bridge, park or monument needed, Democrats build them.
There's no shortage in Democrat spending for everything else but prison facilities. More money is wasted in the multitude of Illinois bureaucracies (redundant agencies and executive staff) than any other state in the union.
I wonder if Rauner already explored privatized prisons and minimum wage guards?
Think the Democrats are lined up and ready to invest?
Mitsubishi is looking for a tenant for their old building, right there along the prison trail, I-55.

Re-build Alcatraz...

Re-purpose the deepest abandoned open-pit mines...

Rehabilitation for those who are accepting of it.

The public being accepting of the fact that there are and will
always be resolutely hard-head m/fers who violently insist
on rejecting taking a proper and constructive place as a
contributing member of society.

Thusly, that selfsame public becoming very comfortable with
setting those hard-head individuals apart from the rest of
society for stretches of multiples of dozens of years every time
they opt to reject living in lawful and peaceful harmony with their fellow men.

It should be BEE-AY-DEE hard-head m/fers who cower with fear and terror of what
society has in store for him for acting out his unchecked, vile and violent criminal impulses.

This blog is alive with eye-watering witness accounts of savagery,
slaughter, willful ignorance, unchecked impulse control and other similar such.

Many are those who resent this blog for constantly bringing
those things to the light
of day.

They want the "mean and racist cops on that cop blog" to sit down, shut up and stop speaking truth.

They fear the rest of everybody else catching on and saying:
"Damn... Maybe the Cops are right after all?"

Stay safe.

28 July 08:14 - Yes, it was the Tamms Penitentiary in Thomson, IL. And our great senator durbin helped grease the deal so long as no Gitmo prisoners were sent here. It was a maximum security big house - perfect for our more career minded criminals. Why not have a new, already built location at the old Michael Reese Hospital?? The Lakefront Liberals could easily visit/attempt to rehabilitate them. And the first inmates could be the Daley/Vaneko crime family who were trying to bring the Olympics here and bought the Hospital for the Olympic Village. Then we won't have to pay for his bodyguards & he would loose his pension which he collects from the IL state senate instead of the city or county.

Thompson, The state built it but never had the money in the budget to open it or run it. Illinois sold it to the Feds. I read the cost was $165 million for the Feds to buy it. Then more money to renovate the new prison to Federal standards. First they wanted to house Guantanamo detainees there. A shitstorm ensued and no Gitmo folks. I am not sure of the current status.

By the time someone coming out of Cook County is in prison, they have had 4 or 5 prior convictions,
some misdemeanor, at least one felony. Probation multiple times. The people
who are in prison have demonstrated that they deserve prison, to the point that judges have no choice
but to commit them to DOC. We need more prisoners, not less.

It's a standard corporate turnaround tactic to pick an unachievable target to get what you really want (probably 10-15%).

10-15% is probably all the non-violent offenders who don't belong in prison anyway. Stick an ankle bracelet on them for a year, make them pay for the privilege, and that ought to do it.

Keep the violent assholes in prison for their full bit.

Finally, just legalize weed already - stop putting people in jail for a plant. How many are in prison or jail for that? Talk about a waste of money...
