Pay-to-Play

  • One month after receiving a $20,000 contribution from one of the world’s largest producers of ethanol, Chicago’s most powerful alderman on Wednesday breathed new life into his plan to require Chicago gas stations to offer motorists a higher ethanol blend of fuel known as E-15.

At the start of every new term of the City Council, aldermen approve a resolution that kills all pending legislation from the old Council. It’s a way to clean the slate and start again.

That’s what happened Wednesday at the second official meeting of the new term. Monday’s inauguration was technically the first.

But the “kill resolution” that Ald. Edward M. Burke co-sponsored keeps alive the E-15 ordinance by excluding “any matter ordered to be deferred and published on or after Dec. 10, 2014.”
Which just happens to be a major issue to the ethanol producer.

The same thing happened when the city tried to force everyone to switch over from Com Ed to that other electric company that produces electricy from natural gas. Who got campaign contributions from that and why were coal fired generation plants really closed down.

It's all about the corruption of the Daley/Vaneck Crime Family.

If La Presidente to be Hillary can make hundreds of millions doing Pay to Play, why can't an alderman make a few lousy bucks?

Unlike Hillary and Bill, he didn't even pocket the money, it went into his campaign funds. The Clintons brazenly put the money into their own pockets.

AAA and a number of automakers came out swinging against E15, warning that the extra ethanol could corrode plastic, rubber and metal parts in cars not built to handle it.

Five manufacturers — BMW, Chrysler, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen — stated their warranties will not cover E15 claims, the automobile association warned. And eight others — GM, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo — said that E15 may void warranties.

DO NOT PUT E-15 into your vehicle unless you have an E-85 certified vehicle. To do so will cause MAJOR damage to your fuel system. Which ALL the auto makers have vigorously pointed out will not be covered by warranty.

Also there will be an additional mileage drop from E-10.

Like most of all the other green crap, E-gas is a boondoggle pushed on the public by the fat-cat corn distillers and corn growers by bribing Congress.

I personally don't give a fuck, because I buy my gas in Park Ridge.

If you buy gas in the city, know that 15% will kill a lot of engines.

Did Burke attach his nude dancing ordinance to this one?
He is the perfect example of why we need term limits!
More federal investigations would help too.....

The engines of the vast majority of the cars on the street were not designed to run on E-15. The auto makers are not liable if you put that crap in your car and you blow the engine.Unless you car is a Flex-fuel don't use it.

What driver would willingly buy E-15 for his vehicle as opposed to E-10 or better yet straight gasoline?

E-15 is untested on motorcycles, lawnmowers, small engines. E-15 use can void warranties. Yet they want to pass this. . . . . all because of some campaign contributions from the ethanol industry.

Big Oil vs. Big Ethanol.

An old heavily subsidized clouted industry vs. a new heavily subsidized clouted industry.

Cousins automobile engineer he said e15 is garbage never use it, ruins critical engine components, and the money it costs to produce and the pollution from corn plants is a lot more that producing pure gasoline! They must of gave Ed passed around petty cash to keep the other sheepish alderman inline watch this ordinance pass! The payoffs are done!

Follow the money, bet since Ed was a Chicago copper years ago he donated that money to the memorial fund, or the pension fund! bet that's what happened! But the fuel E15 is total garbage would never put that in my car, we have some cars that run on it at O'Hare gas mileage is about 6 MPG in an explorer, like water and mechanics say it ruins electronics!

Why does rahm have a fleet of tank like tahoes? Why not drive smaller vehicles like a Prius less pollution, less fuel practice what you preach as we have been raised, not do as I say but not as I do!

Gee, wonder why lawful, taxpaying, God fearing citizens have little faith in government. For the love of money, how does burke get away with public policy rigging and publically accepting bribe payoff money. Let see, politicians (most of whom are lawyers and members of the bar in good standing I might add) have legalized bribes by calling them "political contributions". Legal by laws they pass, not to be confused with legally sanctioned corruption.

Government knows best by their iron fist dictatorial rule. Why not let consumers choose the fuel for their vehicle. Let consumers choose the evil polluting 100% gasoline and if one chooses. Ethanol blends should be offered if the average Joe taxed enough already citizen desires. Its for the environment arguemnt that justifies government meddling with free markets. By the way, when ethanol was mandated by federal law and the supply of corn to feed the poor was diverted to more profitable government mandated fuel requirements. The price of corn tortillas in Mexico doubled in price resulting in hard working peasants going to bed hungry. Corn is food not fuel for internal combustion engines.

Its a one to one transfer in energy to convert corn to ethanol and the power derived from the use of ethanol as a motor vehicle fuel. From an economic standpoint of efficiency, there is neither a gain nor a loss. Ethanol based fuels result in a lower gas mileage. Yet federal fleet mileage requirements for new cars continue to rise. This challenges car manufacturers despite the requirement to use ethanol-based fuels with lower MPG ratings. Thank those evil lobbyists, the paid for bureaucrats in the E.P.A. and the political hacks in the halls of D.C. for those fuel blend requirements introduced into federal laws of the land.

If I am not mistaken, E-15 will be an additional fuel available. You will still be able to purchase E-10 as you do now. Just don't buy the crap.

5/21/2015 11:22:00 AM

No, because you chose to buy it. Since it won't be the ONLY gas available, be smart and don't purchase it. Push the other button on the gas pump.

Another day in the city! Rahm announced today that the big airport will build new concessions facilities, new rental car facilities, and the high speed trains to downtown! He even made the new woman that took over as commissioner attend cut her vacation short! She said "when rahms calls you cannot say no" she has no idea what she will do!

Wait sorry did rahm "suddenly" find more billions? Thought bond rating tanked! Did his manipulation of money cause this? Just to not fund the pensions? When you have bills to pay you pay them as they are due before you create new spending correct?

No found money on this one. It's going to be paid for by the airlines and the car rental companies. If you've ever gone to Vegas and rented a car at their centralized building, you know how VASTLY better that set-up is than ours.

Ed Burke didn't get $8 million bucks in his "campaign fund" by accident. It is the legal way to pass a bribe. And to think, many a good alderman went to prison for taking money the old fashioned way, in an envelope in a closed office.
