Here's an Idea!

  • Chicago Park District officials said Tuesday they are asking Riot Fest organizers to look at moving the lively three-day festival to another park, such as Douglas Park on the Near West Side.

Last month, Ald. Roberto Maldonado (26th) pushed for the eviction of the festival from Humboldt Park after alleging $150,000 in promised park repairs tied to last year’s festival hadn’t been completed.

“The Chicago Park District has urged Riot Fest organizers to consider alternate locations to Humboldt Park. Douglas Park is among them,” said Jessica Maxey-Faulkner, a spokeswoman for the park district.
They must really want to kill this festival if they're sending it to the west side.

Douglas park is a beautiful park in an up and coming neighborhood. I would b a perfect place for a festival with rioters. I'm pretty sure the youth of the neighborhood would love to see some fresh victims coming through...

Hey, the millennials embrace diversity so it looks like a win win situation to me. Plus, Mt. Sinai is right next store and they can always use more business.

Dump Riot Fest...too much work and too much money to restore parks. Let them tone it down and take their show to another type of venue.

I live only a few blocks away and have experienced more disruption from the Puerto Rican Fest than from riot fest. Sure there was more damage last year due to the wet weather, but i have yet to see evidence from the alderman as to where there is lingering damage is that was not fixed? I frequent Humboldt park and see no such damage, for the few weeks part of the park is closed off is a small sacrifice for the influx of money that is generated ! Does the Puerto Rican fest generate any revenue for the park ????? I believe this is a small minority that is crying out loud because thay cannot accept the fact that humboldt park is gentrifying ! Suck it, Riot Fest isn't going anywhere !

It's laughable to hear residents complaining that Riot Fest is "bad for the community"..... Wow. Talk about complete disconnect from reality.

I can think of about a dozen or so things that are bad for the community.... Riot Fest isn't on that list.

Section 8 housing, gangs, drugs, prostitution, generational welfare, shitty schools, forclosures, abandoned houses, etc, etc .... A bunch of smelly hipsters listening to shitty music didn't make the cut.

Why? Is it only Puerto Ricans that can have a fest there? Hell, today most of the neighborhood around park is over run with white yuppies.

Why not put it in K-Town? Save the suburban kids a few miles of travel and cut security costs for the city.

Of course they want to kill it.

It's starting to draw from Lolapoloolza, which Emanuel's brother has a piece of.

A lot of these kids are starting to use their limited $ for concerts on Riotfest instead of Lola.

They're hoping the parents say "no way" to sending Becky into the lion's den.

Riot Fest is attended predominately by white 20 and 30ish who pay $60 to $130 for tickets - with little or no trouble.

Do you think Alderman Maldonado would be willing to move the publicly funded Puerto Rican Fest?

The Alderman refuses to charge a $3.00 entrance fee to Puerto Rican Fest, yet will boot the money-making Riot Fest to the west side.

Another useless goof.

It is really obsurd for a handful of Puerto Rican "activists" to try and the kill riot fest music festival based on the rediculous premise that Humboldt Park is "their" neighborhood. We'll news flash. I grew there before there was a single Puerto Rican residing there. For any ethnic group to declare a part of the city theirs is foolish. Another news flash. The days of the ethnic neighborhood in Chicago is over and so is this racist "community group" that tries to rule over Humboldt Park politics. The neighborhood is now experiencing gentrification thank God and now these "organizers" need to move on.

Maldonado and Rahm got what they wanted: To complicate things for the main rival of Lollapalooza and also look like they give a shit about the residents of Humboldt Park. Forget that RF brings a huge burst of revenue and out-of-towners who see the positive aspects of the neighborhood. Not to mention booking better bands and being more affordable all around. Better food too in my opinion.

People whine about "the damage" that RF 2014 caused. Here's what they don't mention: The RF organizers paid for EVERY PENNY of the repair work, made no excuses and apologized with every press release (even though Mother Nature did the damage, not the festival goers)

Maybe Douglas Park will work out and maybe it won't. If it doesn't then some other area will gladly step up with an invitation - probably in the suburbs. And Chicago will lose again.

Riot Fest is getting too big for HP, park still hasn't recovered from last year - tire ruts, crumbled sidewalks and spotty turf, after fencing off half the park for half a year, and now they're asking to take over the park for two weeks at the end of summer.

Old U.S. Steel South Works. All the mud and sharp rocks and junk stickin out of the ground you could wish for to have a great mosh pit. Probably give birth defects to second generation, too.

No range for CPD in the swamplands-with-corroding-55-gallon-drums floating around, though. Someone says they saw a bird...

Isnt it obvious???? Riot fest's target demographic isn't Latino/Hispanic. They raised (area residents and 'activists' ) this point last year. THIS is why it's moving. I guarantee you if they had a stage dedicated to Spanish Rock, they would be singing a different tune.

That being said, I'm not going anywhere near Douglass park!!! Well, maybe if I bring my Duty weapon.
