Thanks Again Quinn

  • Days after Pat Quinn lost the November election, Chicago’s busiest film studio asked the lame-duck governor for a hefty state grant to buy industrial land around its West Side campus, where “Chicago Fire” and other TV shows and movies are produced.

Three weeks before Quinn left office, Cinespace Chicago Film Studios got a $10 million check from the cash-strapped state of Illinois.

The check’s been cashed. But the studio has yet to buy any land, and the owners of six properties listed in the studio’s grant application say they have no plans to sell to Cinespace or anyone else. Nor does a seventh property appear to be for sale, according to a Chicago Sun-Times investigation....
One of many lame-duck "grants" Quinn gave away no doubt.

CINESPACE is a Canadian company crated when Shortshanks all but completely destroyed the Chicago movie industry that Jane Byrne helped to create.

Richie wouldn't let an anchor studio be built here and all the small business that thrived in the days when we made movies like BLUES BROTHERS and THE FUGUTIVE died off. Now it is more foreign business and outsiders coming here making the films and less local people.

Will we ever get any of the $10Million back in any way shape or form.

The "Chicago Way" just like when Quinn appointed his campaign staffer to a position to reap pay and bennies. No wonder this state is the most corrupt state in America and on the verge of bankruptcy.

So, If they haven't bought anything with it, they should be able (snicker) to give the money back, right?

After all these are honest and forthright Hollywood types. And everyone knows that the only accounting more honest than a Chicago Politician's is a Hollywood Producer's accounting.

They just like giving money away. Literally.
When you have as much debt as the state and city have, how in your right mind can you do stuff like this?
I just don't get it.

Sometimes I wonder, what type of country do we live in. Insiders get sweet deals. I am sure the politicians get taken care of too. While everyone else gets to pay the bill. Here is another example, my brother works for a hedge fund. He said his hedge fund was "reimbursed" for losses they incurred during the big economic recession we had back in 2006-2008. We peasants get to pay the bill while they laugh (literally) to the bank.

It would appear Quinn had already given them a previous $5 Million from the below new report from Januay 2014 -

The backlot is part of the big plans he has for his company, which was opened by his uncle Nikolaos Mirkopoulos in 2011 with the help of a $5 million grant from the State of Illinois. It has since provided shooting space for TV shows like "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago PD" . . .

for a grand total of $15 Million

The big question is why didn't the film company get money from their own bank account? And why would Quinn give state money to them to buy land that was going to be used for a private purpose?

If I ask for money from the state to buy my neighbor's land (which isn't for sale), would the state give it to me?

The US attorney's office should be investigating this.

The State is no different from the city. They burn tax payers money on their pet projects and claim there is no money for pensions, schools, teachers, police. What hypocrites. They do not have the public interest in mind. Its all about themselves and their campaign donors. They use the pension money like it belongs to them. The city uses the tif money and the pension money like it belongs to them. An elected school board would be one step in the right direction to get the CPS pension money out of the grimy hands of the mayor and his campaign donors. It is obscene how much money this mayor has raised and is using to maintain control of the pensions and tif funds. Quinn has shown that donors do not throw their money away. They expect to make it back, win or lose. The one percenters want more because corporations are people too. More for them means less for the masses. Chicago is the battle line if they win here then they can win anywhere. Think about it. Rahm ads on every tv channel. Tribune and Suntimes indorsing Rahm and coming up with manipulated polls to show Rahm is winning yet he is running scared. The city of Chicago strangely fails to support the Democratic candidate for governor and elects the Republican Rauner. A one percenter and friend of Rahm is elected by Democratic, Chicago voters. Rauner is actively going after the unions and their pensions. The unions are the last stand, the Alamo so to speak, against these money hungry Republicans and their PAC money. You can take it to the bank that Rahm and Rauner are a team.
Wis. Gov. Walker is their model. We will not be Detroit because we are a viable city and state, It is Wis. they want to turn us into. It is time to take a stand. Which side are you on Chicago. A nation is watching.

Slightly OT:
Both the Sun Times and Tribunes editorial boards gush about Rahm and soundly endorse him for mayor.
Apparently they want the Sheeple to completely forget the asshole that Rahm is, and has repeatedly shown himself to be over the last four years.
A hearty Fuck You to the Scum Times, Tribune and Rahm.
Anybody but Rahm. Go Chuy go.

I think Chuy should simplify his campaign strategy and simply go with " I'm not Rahm and act nothing like him"

Just proves my point. The state and cities are NOT broke. They pay what they want to pay. When it benefits them or someone they know.
For everything they don't like (pensions is a great
example ) they cry "we are broke."

Wouldn't have to scratch the surface too deep to root out the dirtiness spread around with that money. Politician payoffs, The Outfit probably got a taste in one form or another, big wigs from all walks of Chicago business and politics probably benefitted from our $10million tax money. You see, this is the shit that makes a muthatrucka goes apeshit and start to snap. I hate this city. Sooooooo many dirty examples of corruption soooooooo many times for years b4 I was ever born. Will never change.

The Democommunists will burn through every cent they can and when it comes to paying the pensions of the people who do the real work they will cry, WE'RE BROKE!

If they did every come up with any real money like from opening a casino the profits would be skimmed off by the Daley/Vanecko Crime Family. Anything left and Jesse Jackson and Father Pflager say that they should get it because they need new programs for the non-productive to keep them non-productive and government handout dependent.

Why is there not a special First Responders scratch-off lottery ticket to help with the pension crisis. A drop in the bucket, but still a drop.

OT: Studio's get money to film BS tv shows about CPD. Chicago PD is a stupid show that doesn't even relate to the CPD.
Worse part is that with all the problems regarding police brutality and the Burge case, this show does nothing put hurt the CPD.
Last episode showed the hero, a sgt., beating the crap out of a guy, then puts a gun in his face and threatens to kill him. Happened several times and the public sees this and believes this is how it's done out there. Make illegal searches, shit like that and the public believes it.
This just ads to the liberals view of the CPD.
I know how could the public be so stupid to believe it,its only a tv show. They are
