Another Exempt Leaving

Word from the downtown set - the Chief of Patrol dropped his papers to leave. This isn't related to the "black site" nonsense, but rather a on-going conflict with McCompStat.

Word is that the Chief, who has served in assorted capacities for years and knows which end is up, is fielding a lot of information that things in 005 aren't going as well as every one is attempting to portray it. McCompStat is bound and determined to roll out the 10-hour day by next year citywide and told him "get on board or get out."

"Get out" won. You know, if so much middle and upper management was leaving in the private sector, stockholders would be asking, "What the heck is going on?" Not here though - damn the icebergs, full speed ahead!

There has never been an idea/plan from the Ivory Towers that wasn't ill conceived and doomed to failure.

Do more with less works good on paper but when you got 4 shootings, a major fire, a neighborhood fest going to keep the community happy, there aren't enough police and the district is short. Hell even with 3 shootings there are no cars available.

A 10 hr day is just another example of covering up the fact that there are not enough police on the street.

The 10 hour day with two watches is a huge failure. What's the point of it? We are in a huge backlog everyday! The Ex-0 of patrol came to our roll call to get some feedback. When we told him about the backlogs his response was " if the people of Chicago don't like our response time tell the them to move to Florida." I love going on in progress robberies, burglaries and domestics with two hours of them. Some poor citizen is going to get killed on one these domestics and who is going to get blamed? The lowly beat copper that's who. The EX-0 also stated if we post shit about this meeting on SCC he would hunt us down! Well here it is, I will be waiting for you with my lawyer and my gun!!

Chief of Patrol and Chief of OCD left for "Greener pastures".

Good for them, I wish them well.

As for the rest of us? Well, Gary really doesn't give a fuck. Shut the hell up and do it HIS way. Then he's going to yell again at the next makeupstats meeting. He'll promote someone else that likes to yell and scream (just not as loud as him) to replace the ones that left.

Anywhere else in the U.S., and Gary would have his bags packed and on a plane long time ago. Here? Well, we are sooo fucked!

I work that 10.5 hr day, believe me when I tell you....it's the worst thing ever! There is no balance between work and family life, and thats fine for single people with no responsibilities.10.5 hrs at work,2 hrs for travel time,1.5 hrs to shower, shit, shave, and dress for work and undress after work, 7 hrs of sleep, what do you have left? Forget about seeing your family at all on your scheduled work days, forget about school or a side job, and when you drop a slip remember it's for 10.5 hrs! When you are finally off you have to labor for two days straight to catch up on all the work around your house that you have to completely neglect for four days straight. It really blows. You think you can't make special family events now, just wait. Be careful what you wish for. It's not like we get to hang out at a firehouse all day. It's exhausting. Oh, and let's not forget you might get stuck on overtime as we often do. I don't know about you, but I got more going on in my life than just this job!

The 10 hour days are coming, like it or not. It will save the city 92 million dollars a year in payroll. It's a no-brainer! Over 5 years... Bingo! 500 million dollars saved and the city reimbursed for the pension balloon payment they will have to make. And if Rahm stays, you can bet he'll try to implement 12 hour days after he sees how unhappy we are with the tens and how much money he's saving. The more we post how much we dislike these upcoming changes, the more he will fuck us! This is the only way we will get the money owed to us (our pension fund). Other departments do it, and so will we. Suck it up pussies! Where else are you gonna make $100,000 a year with 62 college credit hours!

Come on, SCC. Too many like "playing in the band" and re-arranging the deck chairs in Chicago. Where are they going to go?

If you're a Senior Commander in charge of "Deck Chairs on the Port Side", where are you going to go?

Limited skill sets, but being paid BIG money to do the "Gold Braid" shuffle sort of locks you in for the full cruise.

Same with the Band playing all the hits and favorites the people want to hear. FOP just playing the tunes Rahm wants to hear. Same goes for most of the Deck Chair Commanders singing along.

Let the ship sink and clean the decks. That's the best solution rather than ramming into the Iceberg again and again - especially when it comes to pensions.

What's with all the bitching about the 10 hr. day. To the person who says it takes him 2 hours for travel time, really?? Work somewhere closer. And it takes you 1.5 hours to shower and dress. WTF are you doing in there? Learn how to manage your time. And to those that say they're gonna leave if the 10 hr. day comes. Let's see what kind of job you're going to get that pays you the same as now to do nothing. And most suburban departments work a 12 hour day so I guess you're giving up your career. I love it and I love having three 4 day weekends in a row. I don't know what to do with all the time off and I am married with little kids!

Look at last FOP letter, 50 retirements 41 with less than 29 and a day max pension what does that tell coppers? What does it tell citizens? The boat is leaning, listing to the side, what a disaster this once proud dept has become! How many gold stars will be draining the pension fund? You look at the middle east all the people are tired of the way we are being treated, taking our pension rahm not smart really not smart!

3/23/2015 10:57:00 AM

What does it tell the citizens? I'll tell you nothing. First they have no way of knowing the number of retirements and second they really don't care.
Been a long time since a neighbor came up to me and talked or questioned the number of police retiring.

I'm tired of people talking about the days off. The majority of your time is spent at work. This schedule is terrible for so many reasons. If Mcdrunk is trying to force this on us he can go fuck himself. And fuck M at the union too.

Hate to tell u new guy, but that's the way it's always supposed to have been. 3 people in a car, 3 non overlapping DOGs, someone always off. Ur just another think u know it all. It's just being enforced now so quit crying.

3/23/2015 11:22:00 AM
=============================

If you're traveling a total of 2 hours to work in 005, you're a little soft. After all, it's not 001, 018 or an airport!
I'm happy with the 4 & 2 but if 10 hours comes my way, so be it. I'm 7 months from being maxed out.
If I don't like it, I'm out!

Rivera is dumb as a box of rocks. If your looking for the next supe it's Escalante. It doesn't hurt he's hispanic but that aside he's smart and a good guy.

If he's so fucking smart why couldn't he pass the lieutenants test high enough to be promoted in rank order instead of stealing another mans lieutenants bars with a "merit less" promotion? Because he's not that smart. Put that in your blunt and smoke it.

3/23/2015 08:08:00 AM

Hey asswipe. Crawl back into your mommy's basement and slip in another Star Trek video. The Chief was always the real deal, knows how to treat the troops and leads from the front. When you have more than 10 minutes on the job you can bitch. But not now.

speaking of leaving.....according to a recent article, 95,000 people left Illinois last year (outnumbering the birth rate).....that's about 260 folks per day, or about 10 every hour...well, you know what they say....
a) the difference between Illinois (substitute Chicago or the CPD) and the Titanic....at least the Titanic had a band....
b) when the Captain of the Titanic (substitute Rauner or Rahm) saw the iceberg, he said....well, at least we'll have ice for our drinks!

Things were never perfect on this job. J-Fed fucked the place up but Mc Jersey took the department to an all time low. In the 5th District 3/4ths of love the 10 hour day. I see my family now. Between court and VRI I never had a fire day now I do. There's 10-12% of malcontents here. But every district has at least 10% pouches. 80% of us don't count as far as the 10% are concerned.

All you know it alls out there on the 10.5 hr day. I remember rotating watches, dog changed every time ur weekend came around, and working 6 days straight. We are now on a 4 and 2 and I really thinks it's a good schedule. All you wonder kids out there saying the 10.5 hr day is great better be in the top 33% of seniority in ur respective districts or else ur going to midnights if this train wreck goes city wide. And midnights is where you will stay for a long, long time, cause the goal,is to eliminate 2,000 police positions and the city won't be hiring. As for me I'll be working days, and spending my extra days off in Lake Geneva, not shedding a tear for all you kids who want a 10.5 hr day. Be careful what you wish for......you may just get it and then your stuck for the next 10 yrs working midnights, no life, no side work, all dazed and confused but you got a couple extra days off a year, enjoy them sleeping.....

No side work? How can you work side work even on a 8 hr day? Wouldn't that make you dazed and confused? Especially is you were gone say 10 hrs a day with CPD(travel time, lunch, etc) and with travel to and from the side work plus say a 4 hr gig, that adds up to more than the 10.5 hr days. Gotta go go am spending too much of my free time typing, am getting dazed and confused.

Not true.. At a recent FOP meeting The unit Rep from 014 spoke about FOP endorsing people that Dean didn't personally agree about and then he asked for the unit rep from 5 to speak about the challenges of the 10.5 hour day.

Is that the guy who asks that the mic gets turned off before he will speak? Is he a nut job or what? If he is never on tape then he can go back to 14 and bullshit everyone there.

OT how's Carlos Cortez doing?
