Runoff Rahm

  • For Rahm Emanuel, Tuesday’s mayoral election was the political equivalent of Groundhog Day: six more weeks of campaigning.

With 97 percent of the precincts counted, Emanuel had 45.3 percent to 33.9 percent for his top challenger Jesus “Chuy” Garcia. That’s 4.5 percent short of the 50 percent-plus-one vote that the mayor needs to avoid an April 7 runoff against Garcia. Millionaire businessman Willie Wilson was running third with 10.5 percent, followed by Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) with 7.4 percent and William “Dock” Walls with 2.7 percent.
All the media in the bag, a $30 million campaign chest, businesses and unions behind him...and they couldn't deliver him an election. They couldn't overcome one simple fact - Rahm is an asshole. His whole demeanor screams, "I'm an asshole!" And people don't like assholes.

Of course, now he's running against a commie prick with all sorts of gang ties. Should be fun.

Here is my analysis on some races.

- Rahm wins, but he was sent a message. A large group of African-American voters will vote for Rahm unless Karen Lewis is able to secure their votes. The whole election is may swing, if this happens.

- 11th Ward is the most interesting race of the night. Thompson will win narrowly.

- 31st Ward - Suarez is a L.

- 33rd Ward - Mell is an L. The machine is gone. Many of Dick Mell's Capts have defected.

- 41st Ward - Mary O'Connor is a L. Naptilano is the winner in a run off, contingent he gets Lomanto on board!

- 45th Ward - John Garrido is a winner, unless unions pour a TON of monies against him into the race, which may happen.

These are my guesses sports fans. No over and under figures were given.

Not really a good choice left, BUT - why reward a jerk with a re-election? If he loses, he is OUT of the picture.

His quest to run for US Senator - or President, stopped.

You can always vote out Chuy in the next election. NO ONE should be re-elected who turns out bad or is incompetent.

Everyone was so afraid Rauner would win. If he doesn't work out - vote him out.

It is very simple.

The machine can be beaten. The machine that has had a stranglehold on this city for decades. The machine that hasn't paid the pension obligations and put this city in the whole. The machine that has coddled criminals, stolen your tax dollars and enriched the relatives of the Daleys. The machine that is selling your lakefront park property to their millionaire friends.

Chuy may not be my candidate, but the City Counsel can keep him in check for four years until a real, honest Scott Walkler type comes up. Vote for Chuy. That will break the grip. Get rid of this unlikeable mongrel and his machine.

History was made in several ways: 1. The Newspapers, as I said last week carry zero weight! The era of cutting the section of the newspaper with the recommendations out and taking it to the polling place is over, gone; the papers speak for nobody under 65. 2. The power of the door knocker became more visible than ever. The Knuckle Draggers who were the City Workers and their kids were not out there ringing door bells and making promises. Those City workers, working for Tomsak and other Hacks are the guys who got Rahm into Congress in the 5th Cong. District; they were gone and Rahm lost. 3. Rahm is such an Ass and Narcissist that he performed a miracle: HE GOT JEWS TO VOTE FOR JESUS! 4. Obama's credibility was shown for what it was; WORTHLESS! The President of the United States could not turn a local election, that is amazing. 5.The power of the Latino electorate is about to be felt. Now we will see young Latinos mobilized, energized and inspired by a candidate who looks like their father, uncle or brother. The Chuy style is not the Lil Louie obnoxious bully bullshit, Chuy sounds reasonable and is a Neighborhood Communist. The next few weeks will be interesting and historic."G"

As usual, not much in the way of good choices for mayor. No one of any value ever ran against Daley and he did not debate. What choice did people have? Now, even though Rahm is not well liked he is, for now, the best choice to keep this city from bankruptcy . If Chicago, which is billions in debt, goes bankrupt, there goes the pensions. The CPD pension is in worst shape then Detroits. The mayor is limited by law on how much he can raise property tax and he cannot raise it enough to save the pension funds of the police, fire and teachers. Garcia for mayor? be careful of what you wish for.Hopefully rahm will win and in another four years someone of substance will come along and I don't mean Karen Lewis

To all of my police friends who will trip over themselves to vote for a fellow officer: John Garrido or Chris Talifero. 1. First ask if they will sign on paper that they will make funding our pension a priority. 2. They will not vote for any piece of legislation that diminishes our pension or health care. If they are not willing then they don't deserve your vote. Police or not police. Also Garrido has to explain himself; why was he a Republican and then he flipped and became a Democrat?

Wouldn't you know it, there was a call at the Swissotel last night for a disturbance. Seems Willie Wilson had his election night party there where his campaign brought in about two dozen urban youths to help hand out flyers, set up and be gofers. They worked from 7am to 10pm with a promise of some cash money in their pocket. But you guessed it, wii Willie and his campaign staff snuck out while nobody was lookin and stiffed his own peeps. Left them there with no rides to the south side and not a penny in their saggy jeans. Needless to say they were pissed! Guess Willie's illegitimate kid was right on the mark when he said his father was a deadbeat.

As a retired CPD living out of state, I congratulate all Chicagoans who saw through his bullshit and voted against this Piece Of Shit!

Keep the train rolling guys, and someone find out what Garcia's plan for the pension is.

2/25/2015 07:42:00 AM

Same here.

We know what rahms plan is and that he has a better chance to hurt us than Chuy.

Chuy may not have a real plan to help but at least he has not declared war on us. Hell, maybe he'll even restore some of the healthcare that rahm has already fucked with.

Discount Chuy's remarks about making cops walk the beat like in NY. Political rhetoric.

If anyone knows any dumb recruits that need a house tell them I'm practically giving my house away. 105th/Drake. 11 months is too long on market. To 03:11 A.M. Start thinking what you want in the next FOP contract. A supervisor can quit and if they return within one year will only lose seniority for the time they were gone. The rank of Patrol Officer will lose everything and would be a PPO if rehired.

2/25/2015 08:02:00 AM

Wrong! The city is at this point compelled by State Court Order to cough up the 550 M in 2016. We have that money available through TIF and other funds as well. And, no, we are not Detroit. And, State Law in Il. currently prevents us from declaring bankrptcy. rahm has the posssible power now to fuck with us where as Chuy is kind of clueless in that regard. Better the one term ineffective pony show than teh devil we know.

Illegal? Please explain.

I read he had permanent resident status back in the 70's. I don't know if he ever became a US citizen. He has been elected to several offices, alderman, state senate, Cook County Commissioner. The choice is not between Rahm and Rudy Guiliani; it is between Rahm and Chuy.

Take your pick.

Everyone was saying "anybody but Rahm." Well, this is guy is the "anybody."

Seems to me people are pretty much divided in Chicago..Best response was the one with 5 history making events and #3 was the BEST.. still can't quit laughing..
That aside Daley stayed in office for years because 2 many were SCARED of what would happen IF he wasn't.. some of you would rather EAT SHIT.. than take a chance.. doing the same things over and over is a sign of INSANITY.. Mind you this came to U because of the SANCTUARY STATUS of CHICAGO.. from allowing neighborhoods to become a safe place for Illegals to set up office.. and DON'T kid yourself the illegals VOTE.. RAHM and the rest of the PROGRESSIVES should reconsider the ID for voting..next time you have a politician decide who should be given a free bee on following the law.. VOTE them out.. don't worry about the next ASSHOLE coming in get rid of the ASSHOLE that's there.. My guess CHUY gets it.. Chicago has more Hispanic's .. MORE Hispanic organizers THAN either WHITE or BLACK.. Blacks should take notice how the PROGRESSIVES have thrown them under the bus for the HISPANIC vote..

First off, I am no fan of Rahm. I am a realist tho and believe that this city does need a strong leader. We do not want this city headed the ways of Detroit and I'm not so sure that if one of these other guys get in there that it wouldn't. You can't just give everything away and make everyone happy. You have to live within your means. I think if rahm would take major steps to shore up our pensions I would be totally fine with him being mayor for a long time. That's my big beef with him. Other than that, I don't think he's doing a terrible job. I applaud him for shutting all those school that were severely under attended. That took balls. Anyway, just my thoughts.

Here's the reality of both candidates. Rahm was never a Chicagoan and is merely using the city, which is us as for furthering HiS political career while he will leave this city in a wake of destruction . He's very liberal , a socialist in fact. Now Chuy is a Chicagoan, and a real machine guy. He may be a communist but he said he would hire 1,000 new coppers which will help our pension not to mention our working conditions. Rahm will has never and will never listen to anyone, HE knows all. I think Chuy will listen to people he puts around him, hopefully. We know with Rahm we have no voice, no interest in saving the pension, and he literally hates us with a passion. As far as gang ties with Chuy goes most if not all these west and south side alderman are hooked up,with the gangs and Daley was in bed with the outfit. I'm not justifying it just pointing out the reality of it. Overall it's not the best situation but who will harm us least and do something to,save our pension mess. Rahm wants to eliminate another 2,000 police officer positions with th 10.5 hr work day and he has Deano fully backing him on this. Chuy says he will hire 1,000 coppers which will boost the pension, for coppers it's clear, Chuy now, and let's see what happens in 4yrs. Also Macarthy is toast along with his lying carnival known as Compstat.

I'll cast a vote for Rahm Emanuel on April 7th if:

* he immediately discloses the exact amount in the TIF accounts and has that information open for inspection from this point forward. Any manipulation of those figures at any time shall be punishable by imprisonment - retroactive accounting fuckery included.

* portions of that TIF cash is immediately used to make the overdue payment to our pension fund as has been mandated by law. Annual payments will also be deducted from these accounts until our pension funding achieves a minimum of 90%.

In December, Chuy Garcia was protesting against the police. In 2007, his son was charged with attacking 2 police officers. The firm that gave his son pro bono representation was subsequently awarded County contracts. Know the person for whom you are voting.

Southside Cops for Chuy!

A vote for Rahm is vote to eliminate your pension and retirees HE will go after your pensions.

A vote for Rahm is a vote against more police.

Labeling Chuy a communist is false. Most people and definitely most coppers I know have no idea about communism. He is not a communist.

Also, I know many who have a past that includes fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, relatives that is not indicative of who they are as an individual.

Vote Chuy!

Nope. Didn't vote. I'm officially retiring in 45 days and I can care less about this city. My house has been on the market for past 11 months. Thank God for Section 8. Guarantee money. I have no ties to this shithole city thank God. I'm 55 and I'm not turning back. If anyone knows any dumb recruits that need a house tell them I'm practically giving my house away. 105th/Drake. 11 months is too long on market. At least I will get me some government money before the house gets destroyed. My advice to all. Retire Early, don't have kids, don't have any ties to this city. KMA Shitgago!! Adios!!!

Rahm wins and he is in for life, just like Daley. He is wounded. Put him down while we can. If he gets more powerful we will never be rid of him.

And who changed or sought to change or forced the change to the current system of no primary and an open election with a majority plus one required? None other than the son of the master vote fixer, the chief corruptor, Richard M Daley. And this system has screwed them on more than one occasion since and I am hoping it screws Rahm this time.

As usual, not much in the way of good choices for mayor.

And that goes for Governor, and for President too. We have these candidates foisted upon us by the uni-party, it is all part of the plan. They don't want candidates the likes of Reagan, can't control that type. Instead we get a McCain or a Romney or a Rauner. The two party system is a mirage.

WTF is wrong with these people?

If Rahm wins in the runoff election, things will get dramatically worse in this city.

He does not care about this city or its citizens. All he cares about is making his big business pals happy.

And, Chicagoans should be ashamed about the turnout.

Rahm did not.

The old Daley machine is going to be giving marching orders to deliver Rahn the election. Rahm being mayor is part of the Nora Daley's succession plan. The plan all along was Rahm will be out of the mayor's seat before or after next term to move on to bigger and better things that his money can buy. Like Durbin's or Kirk's senate seat. I don't think Hillary will want him as a running mate since he can't even carry the Chicago mayoral election and has been so eloquently pointed out, he is an assshole.

If "Chewey" gets in as mayor, the odds that Nora Daley gets in next term plummets like a rock. The Hispanics will not let that seat go to a non-Hispanic. Rahm is scared of the consequences to both his reputation and political consequences if he can't win in a run off.

His political aspirations will vanish into thin air as will his political backing. Said in Chicago dialect "He ain't no lawyer so he ain't getting no judgeship like Bilandic."

2. The power of the door knocker became more visible than ever. The Knuckle Draggers who were the City Workers and their kids were not out there ringing door bells and making promises.

Emanuel did have pollsters out, asking if you'd vote for him, and if not, why not.

I told the guy that my biggest problem with Emanuel was the danger he presents to city pensions, and explained our position.

The guy replies, "So, pensions," checks a box on his form and goes on his way.

Trouble with that is, "pensions" is way too vague, and could mean anything from shore them up properly, to "reform", to eliminating them completely. Emanuel could conceivably say, "I took polls and this is what the people want", and do whatever it is he wants to do, "for the children".

Once again, we're left voting for the evil of two lessers.

Asolutely true!

That's why you shouldn,t drop the city plan,, even though the city insurance plan costs as much other plans out there, it can be reversed either through court or another mayor.

Once you drop it, you cannot get back into the program.

My two big issues with Rahm:
Trying to balance the budget on the backs of those who can barely pay (red light, speed cameras) and saying it's for the children...you could have said they're for the mourners at Graceland attempting to cross. Or Challenger "Bark" as the sign reads. Grown (yuppie) adults. Not children. You insult my admittedly modest intelligence as a voter and taxpayer. Asshole.
Second, taking that money and giving it to Depaul? The same one funded by the Catholic Church? Fuck them. Or some dumbass downtown beautification project. Fuck downtown and most certainly FUCK YOU. You let real Chicagoans down.
