Unions Sue Rahm

  • On Tuesday, [pensioner Mary] Jones was one of a dozen current and former city employees named as plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the city, along with four unions that represent them: AFSCME Council 31, the Chicago Teachers Union, the Illinois Nurses Association and Teamsters Local 700.

They’re asking a Circuit Court judge to overturn the bill that saved the Municipal Employees and Laborers pension funds, citing the same clause in the Illinois Constitution at the core of the state pension reform case: that pension benefits promised to government employees “shall not be diminished or impaired.”
This will likely set the stage for any number of pension fights. Follow along closely boys and girls.

The stage was set by the previous ruling. Since the previous ruling was not overturned, I expect this case to be won based on previous ruling.

Case law does not prevent Illinois pols from ever trying to fuck over the working stiffs; as the pols will always try to sneak one by.

Unions and their tame lawyers will sue a ham sandwich if they feel like it. It means nothing. Hell, the unions even sued Gov. Walker of Wisc.

ha ha... when does the FOP do anything for the people it represents? This is just a side show, I am sure they already got the phone call from city hall.

Rahm will let the voters decide if Police officers deserve a pension. Take my word, in 5 years or so. The people of Chicago will say "NO, THE POLICE DONT DESERVE A PENSION!"

I certainly feel no pity or empathy for these elderly librarians, they could have studied ballet at Sarah Lawrence and then made a cool 18 million in 3 years if only they became fast friends with Bruce Rauner, maybe they could also have clouted their kids into Walter Payton College prep. As scrooge said, are there no prisons ? are there no workhouses ? ...

I thought the 2011 two tier system was supposed to solve this problem along with the $590 million fix? If I am not mistaken the deal was two fold. Two tiered in exchange for the $590M and they don't change current employees. Funny how they had a 5 year lead on this. Enough time to work out a new deal and stall and hope we'd forget about the 2011 ruling.

Rahm is not for the working person and neither is he for the children. He is taking a page from his predesessor and sticking with it . Pensions are a contract that in state constitution states that they can not be diminished or impaired. The reason it was put in there in the first place was to keep unscrupulous polititions from getting at the money. The polititions found a way through the back door. Each pension fund has a watch dog group guarding the money ensuring it is invested properly and these groups have an equal number of appointed members from the Mayor and elected members from the rank and file. Usually someone who has worked for the city for many years. Here comes the problem these elected people more than not are individuals who used political favoritism to attain the level in the workforce and they have to repay favor back to their handlers. Bingo. They turn their heads and dont notice that there are unscrupulous things being done with monies they were entrusted to watch. Ir regardless the mayor present and Mayor past used monies that should have gone into pensions but in stead built a fire station, library, health center, park police station etc. etc. These are things that were not budgeted for and they wanted now with no intention of paying later. Recently with all the new found money that BROKE chicago has the wer able to construct Maggie Daley park and also give money for the Depaul center. Remember Michael Reese Hospital in the past that the city now owns because of the olympics fiasco. The city has money and will have money with the Casino that Rauner and Rahm will open up in the near future

When will the CPD rank and file finally stand up against cop hater Chuy Garcia who along with his mentor Preckwinkle wants to believe that all people of color are in jail because they are black or brown.

Garcia has joined the protesters with their proven false----"stand up don't shoot" nonsense. Remember thisis the group that believes all of the CPDare evil and some chant --What do u want dead cops--when do you want it now.

He is fueling the flames of racism and cop hatred and is akin to DeBlasio. The only real candidate who will help the cops is Fioretti. It is time that you all come out for him.He will have your back while Chuy and Rahm will blame you for picking on minorities. Your futures depend on it.
