File Under "No Shit Sherlock"

Who has been saying this for months? Oh yeah - all our readers:
  • The Emanuel administration was standing by the city’s scandal-plagued red light camera program on Friday, in the face of a Chicago Tribune study revealing the city’s safety claims have been overblown.

  • The city has boasted a 47 percent reduction in right-angle crashes at intersections with red light cameras. However, the Tribune study found the city did not factor in significant changes in the way the state tracks traffic accidents, the improved safety of modern vehicles, or changes in traffic flow due to the recession. The Tribune study showed a 15 percent drop in right-angle crashes, but also a 22 percent increase in rear-end crashes, likely due to drivers slamming on their brakes to avoid a ticket.
The Tribune article is here (password needed).

The insurance companies wanted us to pass along their thanks to Rahm and Richie for permitting massive premium hikes.

They put out a propaganda film prior to these findings being released, featuring some high-speed crashes.

Turns out, not one was *prevented* by these cameras, nor did I see any children saved.

If it's SAFETY they're concerned with, then why the hell aren't those crosswalk countdown displays coordinated with the yellow lights?
It's taking your life into your hands, watching the countdown clock at the same time you're watching for the light to change, at the same time you're watching for bicyclists whizzing through the light, at the same time you're watching for cars jumping the light or turning right on red, into your path.
At least make sure the countdown clocks sync with the yellow light, so we have a fighting chance out there.
Yes, some of 'em do, but MANY of them don't.

Why does the Fibune and Scum-Times hide taxpayer interest stories like this behind a "registration" firewall?

Picking and choosing what the public has the right to know?

Well fuck then...
You know they're not going to put those reaching back to 1967 Chicago Police Officer c/r files behind a firewall.

THAT SHIT, will be front and muthafuckin' center.

Heh... Priorities an' shit...

Never you mind how much money Rahm al-Ghoul is stealing/re-allocating from the workers and giving to the democratic voting non-contributing horde and and his muni-gov sponsored corporate cronies.

All kinds of undue diligence ferreting out a Copper who reasonably and justifiably slapped the bow-legged shit out of a member of a protected demographic many tours of duty ago...

"We wants justice an' shit!"

Dafukouttaheah...

Really hoping you media hypocrites never again know a good night's rest.

Heh... May you see dead people (and folks) in your sleep just like the surly, uncouth cops you so revile.

Rest easy y'all...

It's offensive. Remember the whole thing started in at a state level then county. Track D'Amico and Silvestri. You then have the trunk of the problem. You still need to go deeper for the root. (PSSST..... It's the combine, in which Madigan/Rahm are the figureheads of the board).

Same thing happened everywhere else red light cam studies occurred. It's like the City disregarded those studies

It's well known. I seen a study about this nationwide. They claim rear end collisions are less damaging as right angle accidents. What they won't tell you is how many right angle collisions decreased compared to rear end accidents increased. The number of accidents and dollar damage in dollar amounts have increased where red light cameras are installed.

How long will it take for this to come here?

Not just tolls: E-Z Pass keeping an eye on speeders

Campaign hint for Bob Feoretti...

Chicago is the most driver hassled city in the country and all Rahm gives us is CASH COW CAMERAS robbing citizens.

What we need is a City Wide Computer Controlled Traffic System which could help eliminate gridlock ad move traffic across the city as fast as possible.

Of course as son as anyone who announces that Rahm will unveil that from Venecko Traffic Works Inc..

Years ago, my dad told me not to speed between - what was it - I think it was the Rockford tollway payment boxes. You got a card about the size of a contact card and it had the time you got it and the time you turned it in stamped on it when you paid your final toll.
He said they checked the times against the speed limit. He was a lead-foot, but not on that stretch of the tollway.
So, no surprise they'll be using ezpass to snag us.

I wonder how many red light violators are driving suspended, revoked or DUI. The camera will never tell nor will the Tribune, or Chuy, who took a donation from the camera company or that do gooder who is whining about cameras and who knows what else
