Correlation Failure

Someone who obviously attended the CompStat meeting last week noticed something odd:
  • Contact Cards are the be all and end all of CompStat and crime fighting. "Make contact with the right people" and the crime numbers will fall. So why is it that the 011th District led the city in Contact Cards over the last measuring period and also led the city in killings?
Something doesn't compute. Was everything a lie? How can that be??

Just imagine how many more would have been killed if no contact cards were done. ;-)

Obviously being accosted by the police filling out a contact card enrages the innocent Chicago citizens and turns them into homicidal maniacs.

I have been locking up violent thugs in 011 for years, but unless our leadership changes, I'm done. Officers who bring large numbers of contact cards literally get applauded in roll call. Lock up three armed robbers and close twenty plus robbery cases in a day and get yelled at for no contact cards. Where were you at when pookie got shot, officer? Not doing contact cards obviously! Not a single word of appreciation from a single boss? Fuck you. I'm done.

Disarming the border patrol.

==================================

Stop With The Lies

Nearly one-third of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's 16,300 M4 carbine rifles were tested by the agency's office of training and development, which determined that more than 2,000 had the potential for malfunction. The rate of nearly 40 percent was "more than we are comfortable with,” said CBP Deputy Chief Ron Bitiello.

Ok, so what's the problem?

“All you need to do is pull out the old firing pin and put in the new one and the rifle is ready to go,” he said.

Bitiello said that may be the case, but the work must be done by a specialist.

“It may be easy to replace a firing pin, but these are things that should be done by a professional,” he said.

Horsecrap.

If you're competent to use said weapon you're competent to field-strip it.

This is a "direct impingement" weapon, which means the gas from the expended cartridge is used to cycle the gun. That in turn means the internals get quite dirty, and must be disassembled to clean them.

The bolt carrier group contains the firing pin and must be removed and disassembled for routine cleaning and lubrication.

In other words every person in CBP who has had even rudimentary training on said firearm (as with the military), along with anyone with a brain that has the civilian-legal semi-automatic version of the same, is very capable of putting in a new firing pin instead of the old one when reassembling the weapon.

Yes, it really is that simple folks, and any CBP agent not competent to do so has no business using an M4 in the first place.

This is an attempt to de-fang these agents. The question is simple: Why?

A BIG Problem in 011 is that Commander Washington doesn't run his district. He was the same way during his first two stints here. He allowed a now gone Lt to kill the moral of the 2nd watch crew. Today, he sits silently while an absolutely out of his fuckin mind Cpt, beats the 3rd watch into frustrated apathy. Been in 011 forever...experienced many a Commander here. But I've never seen one who seemingly never has anything to do with the day to day operation of his district. It defies logic.
There was a reason why Evans was welcomed like a conquering hero when he came here. It was the first time in a long time that we'd seen actual LEADERSHIP come from the Commander's office.

Officers in 011 - you damn well better re-read the order on contact cards. A check in the computer shows lots of lying going on and cards being written in violation of the order. Remember, Terry Stop! Otherwise, you're one card away from being a defendant.

Big difference between " correlation" and " causation". At the DOC meetings of years past, the big bosses never comprehended that.

Anyone still doing contact cards is a moron. City is being sued by several groups about contact cards. The only legit reason to do one is if you stop someone who you believe has committed a crime,is committing a crime,or is about to commit a crime. The bosses pushing contact cards are morons, this is costing the city millions of dollars. Contact cards are going to be what pushes Mcjersey shore out of Chicago.

cards DIDN'T result a murder rate decrease for all the
ballyhoo and hullabaloo that it would.

Comp-Stat bean-counterism as the true religion of an ill-concieved corporate model forcibly overlaid upon something as bloody, messy, unpredictable and shitty as Policing by these "smart" motherfuckers from New Yuck, is a failure at ground level where the bad shit happens.

Just like the neo corporatism embraced by Rahm al-Ghoul and his friends, it's nothing more than statistical voodoo conjure to paper over the theft/forcible re-allocation of assets and resources.

Chicagoans are idiots?

"Stating" is the death of law enforcement. Contact cards are nothing more than a "feel good" stat that means nothing. Sad thing is bosses have probably been promoted even higher while lowley PO's have been stripped over the silly stat. Never trust a boss. They have the chance to move up through clout while most P.O.'s don't. Chicago is a messed up place.

I will not say that contact cards are the greatest police tool in the bag but I can say one thing for sure, they help. When contact cards are completely filled out with clothing info, vehicle info, phone numbers and who they're stopped with they are a great investigative tool.

I'm an area south dick and I use them all the time, and yes they work. I deal with tact and gang teams that also use them with success.

Please don't just jot any garbage down on them , if you have to write them then do them right. Screw the clowns who want stacks of them, just do a few legit ones if possible.

They are about helping identify shitheads, if one ass hole gets Id'd and locked up its worth it. Remember that's one less ass hole who will run from you, fight you, burglarize you or shoot you.

"It's gonna be pretty difficult for the lawyers to sue me for my contact cards when none of my contacts actually exist."

The problem comes when whoever enters them into the computer enters your star number by mistake, on a contact you weren't even involved in.

I know I'm on a few cards that didn't even occur anywhere near my district.

That's true. Once they could no longer have an arrest quota, some dickhead boss, whose job depends on piles of paper came up with the idea of counting this crap.

An as numerous posters have said, you, the lowly blue shirt are the only one with anything to lose when this steaming pile blows up.

I have to agree with post about Washington being a clueless leader in 011. 2nd watch lt JA aka JAM U UP JOHNNIE OR JA#OFF JOHNNIE killed the 2nd watch with his bs. He would tell us how great he was when he was in the D Unit. Yet he was launched as a sgt from old area 4. So that tells u he was a JO when there. Then he would tell the 2nd watch that he is your buddy, one of the good guys! Truth is he would tell u to your face he is looking out for you, then the moment you walk away he is on phone with ipra trying to jam you up and make a name for himself. He did make a name for himself citywide. Just ask anyone who worked for him or with him. Well he was never the working police anyway.

karma is catching up to him for all the unnecessary lies he made up and the bs he put us thru.

Not so tough now are you now johnnie boy.

Hey long time hero, since you have been in 011 soooo long do you remember when it was a dumping ground for bosses who stepped on their dicks politically or legally? It has a glorious history of some really bad bosses. Most people who were assigned their learned the job than moved on. Why don't you try using your advanced skills in a district that has been stripped of police and would be more appreciative? You might even like it.

Dam Lt (JA) Who knew it'd be so easy to flush you out? Still stalking the board, huh?
No one liked or respected you in 011. You knew that, and seemed to revel in it. How many good Sgts did you single handedly chase from 011, 2nd watch? I can named 4 right off the bat.
Ironic you'd mention Koolaid: When you were here, nobody drank more 35th street koolaid than YOU. Nobody!
Evans walked in and showed you that the COMMANDER runs the district...not the 2nd watch Lt. Wasn't long before you got the hell outta Dodge.
You're gone & forgotten in 011.

I agree with the 11th District officer. Do actual police work and you get shit on but they take care of the officers that bring in bullshit contact cards. I see so many officers stopping citizens without reasonable suspicion. Keep it up you foolish robots and don't come crying when you are in federal court. Trust me those bosses will lie through their teeth on the stand regarding their constant badgering of there officers do produce contact cards. Use your dam heads!!!
