Thank Goodness for the Feds!

  • As the investigation continues into the murders of seven women in Indiana, police officers in Gary used trained dogs Tuesday morning to search for more bodies while federal authorities said they believe there could be victims outside the state.

[...] Hammond Police Chief John Doughty said Vann has claimed to have killed more people going back 20 years. Investigators “have concerns” that Vann – who has lived in other states, including Texas – could have victims in other states, according to Bob Ramsey, the supervisory special agent for the FBI office in Merrillville, Ind.
It seems Chief Doughty was already looking into that possibility. And let's see - we haven't been through Hammond in years, but he's got seven bodies to his credit in Indiana so far, he's been loose on and off for decades, has a history of sexual violence, registered in Texas as a sex offender, re-registered in Indiana. We're going to go out on a limb here and say this guy has dozens of bodies in his distant and not-so-distant past.

The FBI is more than equipped to handle this sort of background investigating and we're betting that Hammond is a little overwhelmed at the size of the fish they have in their net right now. It's rare to catch one of these predators alive, let alone with a warm body nearby. We certainly wish them luck in tracking all the victims they're able to. But the feebs stating the obvious (...he might have victims in other states...) seems to reinforce the thought pattern that cops in the "sticks" don't know what's going on.

Mcdrunky says after a thorough investigation by Lt Walsh from the D unit this guy has never been to Illinois and we are 100% sure that he has never killed anyone in Chicago. Those bodies found in abandoned buildings are nothing more than death investigations.

Texas has the death penalty. Does Indiana?

This animal is not rehabilitation material.

Even the police skills of the famed Texas Rangers, pale in comparison to those of the average FBI agent. It is amazing how the federal government attracts these almost super men.

Hammond and NW INDIANA, especially lake county is no Mayberry. Many of daleys ole cha dwellers relocated there. Towns like Hammond, dyer, merrivlle, are all shit. You've got to get to southern porter or Laporte county before you find the "sticks".

Judges and juries in Texas get upset, and have little mercy, when people come into our state and kill our citizens. They get executed. Sorry, but that is just the way it is.

If I learned anything from watching Criminal Minds, it's that all serial killers are middle aged white men.

With all of the unsolved "Death Investigations" in Chicago with that same MO, I'll bet that Downtown will closed 100 cases naming VANN as the offender. If not Denis Walsh will!!!

You must enjoy contradicting yourself. You where probably still in HS, but when we had the serial killer murdering prostitutes in Englewood back in the 90s, The FBI brought their forensic team into assist us.
Even we can act likes a bunch of rubes when it comes to investigations, their help was welcomed.

I think we should send all of cpd's abandoned building guys to help search the 10,000 abandoned builds in Gary.

The FBI never met a camera or media interview they didn't like.

They lick their chops over cases like this, it's ingrained in their collective, institutional DNA. J. Edgar was nothing if not a great administrator and, more importantly, PR man.

In the FBI's opinion, anything beyond the most basic petty crime is beyond the scope of what your basic cop can handle. Which is hilarious, considering that their vaunted Behavioral Science Unit is just a bunch of voodoo pseudo science claptrap.

Won't be long before they claim jurisdiction, and the media spotlight, now that it's practically solved itself. Of course when it comes to real whodunits without easy solutions, like the Tylenol case or any other crime that lingers without a resolution, they're more than happy to throw it back in the locals inbox.

you did notice the little quotation marks around the word "sticks"? That denotes something - figure it out brainiac.

We were on the job when there were at least two (and a suspected third) serial killers operating in the Wood. We aren't denigrating the feebs ability to bring unlimited resources to bear - as you would have seen if you actually comprehended what we wrote. The feebs who showed up in 007 were smart enough not to treat the coppers there like rubes, but rather fellow LEOs in need of expertise in forensic sciences.

You think Hammond PD didn't think this asshole might have a history? Now, do you think Hammond PD has the money or time to do a nationwide background check on every city, town and village this guy may have camped out in while slaughtering whores? Not likely, but the feebs with an bottomless checkbook and number crunchers can do that.

Now how about they show some class, let Hammond run their investigation and act like professionals instead of glory hounds thinking they have Hannibal Lecter in chains? They are there in a supporting role as this guy isn't facing and federal charges as of yet.

News said he was a jarhead from the first Gulf War, 91-94. Probably some barracks whores stashed away in barrels somewhere outside a base only God and him knows where.

A critical comment - similar to others - is posted & now it's "ignoramus & brainiac". sorry I offended you but I'll stand by my pointed - but polite - remarks. Some CPD members would not be able to work in a rural area with limited back up.

Nothing in that article would lead anyone w/half a brain in their head to believe The Bureau was taking over the investigation.
You aren't privy to any more information that that article provided, your conclusions are erroneous at best.

Indiana does have the death penalty and currently has 14 on death row. The last execution was 2009. They use lethal injection. They should just go back to firing squad. Every state now has problems obtaining the drugs.

The FBI "BS" Unit told us in the 90's that the ONE serial killer we were looking for was a "middle aged, male white, married," Uh, a little off the mark.

No problem, just think about it...

Turn a couple of the prisoners already in jail to get the drugs for them. The damn inmates don't seem to have much trouble getting drugs in the joint.
