We Got Nothing

  • A veteran Chicago cop has been fired, after a run-in with a cab driver five years ago.

Karl Clermont recalls the booze-fueled encounter he had with an off-duty Chicago police detective in April 2009. He drove the man he says was obviously drunk to Armitage and Damen.

The passenger left the cab and refused to pay the eight dollar fare.

“So he goes like he’s going in his pocket and I think now he’s going to pay me,” Clermont says. “He pulls out a weapon and draws it at me directly and says to me, ‘You choose. Either I don’t owe you (expletive) or you get out of the car and see what happens.”
  • Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Friday Grand Crossing residents want him to reinstate their indicted former district Cmdr. Glenn Evans and he would consider it if Evans is exonerated.

One day after Evans was formally indicted on aggravated battery and official misconduct charges, McCarthy talked about the impressive show of support that one of his most trusted commanders received at Thursday night’s Police Board hearing.

“There was 20 or 30 people who came. They presented a petition in support of Commander Evans while at the same time saying, 'Look, we’re not even addressing the allegation. We’re just talking to you about the character' “ of the man, the superintendent said during a taping of, “Connected to Chicago,” to be broadcast at 2 p.m. Saturday on WLS-AM Radio (890).

“That was really telling because it’s the same group of people that, when I moved him from the 3rd District to the 11th District, came out to the Police Board meeting and protested….I complimented them. It’s easy for people to come and complain. When people come in support of somebody, it’s really telling. Commander Evans does have widespread support in the community because he’s one of the hardest-working people we have.”
You have to go in five paragraphs to find this:
  • McCarthy stressed that, if true, the charges against Evans are “obviously reprehensible and intolerable in a police agency.” But he also condemned the rush to judgment by the news media.

“Everybody has Glenn Evans as guilty right now,” McCarthy said.
Nobody "has [him] guilty" Garry. The outrage in the media is that he was left in place while under investigation, a privilege granted to only the favored few. But these expressions of support and outright praise are kind of creepy for a guy under indictment for behavior out of a crime fiction novel. The message we're hearing is, "The ends justify the means." That's a dangerous message...and a slippery slope.

Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy looked on.
“He shouldn’t be a cop. He’s not fit,” Clermont said.

Police have a duty to be above reproach. They must meet a higher standard of ethics, integrity and honesty. When a policeman fails to meet that high standard in any way, he must be made an example of, severely disciplined and if necessary fired. Our police are modern Jedi Knights.

Dig a bit deeper media the majority of the people who came with that petition are friends and tenants of the commander not people from the community. The people from the community hate the police and that includes Evans this is all damage control. These same people should start writing the letters begging the judge that's going to sentence Evans for mercy. This is smoke and mirror dog and pony show that Evans attornies came up with. and whats up with the pos that testified against the DC? Im hearing one has been asked for resume?! Is a dick or sgt promo in line for amnesia ? So this is all legit huh!

Smart move by McCarty. If Evans is found guilty. He can say that's the kind of Commander the people wanted and I give him to them. And if he's found innocent. McCarty becomes a hero of the rank and file for not throwing Evans under the bus. It is a no lose for McCarthy.

He has been judged guilty based on rumors and innuendos and half assed lab work.
Wbez at the behest of, and with the support of the Peoples Law Office and Ervin went after Evans with illegally obtained documents and tainted evidence.
The People Law Office is the police suing law firm that went after Burge and protected the Nato and FALN terrorists. Flint Taylor and his crew want to use the CR list and Evans as a money spigot now that the Burge money is running dry .
The public and in some cases the police bought into the CSI dna argument. The dna itself proves nothing. No medical evidence backed Williams story.
But everyone bought into the story about the
poor little gang banging parolee being abused for no reason. Bad call.
There is a huge amount of misinformation and violations of Evans rights. There is info out there that exonerates him. There is every indication that Ervin , the Peoples Law Office and others had Alvarez railroad him for retaliation and political reasons. Alvarez is doing her best to drag this case past the election so no one sees how bad it is. What Evans and his attorneys know is devastating to Williams and IPRA.
IPRA has so many problems with the investigation that they ran into court to suppress a motion to produce the investigative file.
What is IPRA hiding ? Why aren't they being investigated?
Putting him back to work protects CPD from any lawsuits from Evans . McCarty and others has a lot of background info on the case that backs Evans as well as a lot of community support so they are playing it safe.
Of course the detractors are going to have problems with this info. Just wait to see what happens in the very near future. I don't want to say I told you so but. ..

The term "real police" is overused, especially in the case of Superintendent McCarthy. He is a politician, probably always was. He is a guy that had the inside track and used it to promote himself, instead of doing what was good for the Departments he worked for and the citizens that paid his salary. He is Rahm's puppet and the mouth piece of the anti-gun progressives.

Have to agree with you, he does try to help po's. I know of two incidents that he recommended and lowered suspensions, but was overruled by the police board. He also was instrumental in allowing po's that were activated and sent to Iraq, injured over there to not be included in the 12 month limit for non duty related light duty.

Not sure what that has to do with the Det. The Det. was a cocky ass and thought he was untouchable because daddy was a boss. Anyone who ever met him knew he couldn't handle his booze. It dragged on for 5 years because of his juice. As far as the other officer you mentioned, it obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about. If you are going to badmouth someone at least know the facts. I'm sure the case is available on line so feel free to educate yourself. BTW, I have known this officer my entire life and he has never been to jail. Further if you where to read the court transcripts you would see that the judge ripped the federal government and went as far as to say it was nothing more than a witch hunt. The judge was forced to issue a sentence as the officer plead guilty. If you know anything about the federal government you either plea or they continue to run up court costs until you don't have any money left.
