Horse of Honor Unveiling

There will be a number of these events in upcoming days. We'll try to get to any that are forwarded to us:
  • Dear SCC and SCC (Retired):

We would very much appreciate a post on Second City Cop tomorrow inviting current and retired members of the Chicago Police Department to attend the unveiling of a Horse of Honor dedicated to the memory of Off. Michael A. Ceriale.

    Saturday, September 13
    12 pm
    Hyatt Regency Chicago
    Chicago 60601

The life-size horse statue was designed and painted by artist and Chicago Police Officer Peter Bucks, a high school classmate of Off. Ceriale.

Horses of Honor is a public art campaign to raise awareness and support for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. This horse was underwritten by the Officer Michael A. Ceriale Memorial Foundation.
A lot of upcoming events. Hopefully, everyone can make one or two.

In the spirit of this mid-September time -- too much death, too many memorials -- I offer for the comfort of all a beautiful song of love, hope, hurt, and redemption.

Diana Ross - "Missing You."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVlbbk4SPC4

It has got me off the floor and out the door more than once.

Give it a listen. Gets me dancing (if you can call it that) and crying at the same time. It's helping a lot.

..and then we go on somehow.

God bless all here. Best wishes.

Tomorrow is supposed to throw better weather at us..."Injun Summer" on the way, and maybe an easier, warmer, "El Nino" winter too.

Like the fine young man from E125 told me the other day, from the tragically shot copper to the elderly lady who fell trying to get home with her little bag of groceries over the terrible ice -- "We are a family here in this city. All of us."

Let us make it so.

Take heart. Un abrazo para mi amigos. Love you all.

Thank you for posting this. I will attend. I've seen photos of the horse posted online and it's beautiful. RIP Mike. You are not forgotten.

That is the hope of the Ceriale Foundation, too. We have already contacted Cmdr. Staples to get feedback on where it could be placed, etc.

The horses will be auctioned on Dec. 3 to the highest bidders. We are looking for a benefactor who would buy the horse with the understanding that it will be placed in the station.

You can see the horse here. It's magnificent.

Thank you, SCC for the post.

I went to the vigil outside of County Hospital all those years ago. Very sad, I was shocked and heartbroken when Mike passed. Gone but not forgotten. All of those that have died have a special place in my heart and thoughts, but for some reason, Mike is the hardest for me.

On a brighter note, I saw some guys playing softball at Horner Park a month or two ago and they had Ceriale Memorial t-shirts. That warmed my heart a little bit that we aren't the only ones that think of him.

Mike Ceriale, even in death continues to make a difference by bringing us together for a common cause to ' Honor Our Fallen.'
May God bless and continue to watch over all the 571 brothers and sisters on Chicago's Memorial Wall in Gold Star Family and Park.
On that note, if available, please come out and show your support at our annual candle light vigil, Tuesday, 16 September, 1900 hrs., at the water wall across from Soldier Field.

And finally, a bit off-topic...
Thank You to the Lt. and his men from the mounted unit that volunteered to traverse across the city to bring two very special horses to the honorary street sign unveiling/dedication on 9 September at Palmer and Nordica.
The mounts, recently renamed on behalf of many of our fallen CPD heroes (i.e. Ceriale) stood in silent reverence on behalf of their contemporary new designations... Kilroy and Hauser.
God Bless you, one and all.

There is a flagpole memorial to Mike there by the ball fields.
