Based on what our FOP Rep. spoke of at roll call, The FOP bargained for 500 new vehicles. Why would that be a part of bargaining anyway?? Lets say they don't purchase them? Who's gonna hold Rahm to it? He does not care about contracts or judges orders! If this is part of the contract it was not spelled out in anyone of the 6 videos I viewed...

I think the videos are good and informative. I am voting yes. It is a good contract.

Question is how does Jin Ade get re elected or even consider running. The sergeants overwhelmingly rejected the contract he proposed and the videos showcase how the sergeants got screwed. Why did they negotiate first - everyone told Ade to let FOO, the larger union, go first. But Ade wanted to show how smart he is ha, ha,ha, ha.

We get better raises, we do not need to do wellness and the potential $50 per month and we do not pay 2% until 2017 for healthcare when we retire.

If they would have given you your contract in good faith when it expired!!!

The Shields incident wouldn't have even been a factor.

You would already received your raise and could have been drawing interest on it!

All your overtime would have been in this raise!!

We wouldn't have to give up anything for what we rightly deserved, and should have already had in our pockets!!

But now that is their carrot, to give us part of what we deserved, and done without for all this time.

The teachers did better than us!

No way they will give us less than the firefighters, only equal, and that's what we will get!

But to deny us anything that we would have gotten if they agreed to our contract, ON TIME... like it should have been is a disgrace!!!

You will not get my vote, or anyone I talk to RAHM1

Make our contract fair.

Emanuel Socks City Retirees With 40 Percent Health Insurance Hike

FRI, 09/12/2014 - 7:00PM
FRAN SPIELMAN
@FSPIELMAN | EMAIL

Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Friday dropped another financial bombshell on Chicago’s 25,000 retired city workers and their dependents: their monthly health insurance premiums will be going up by a whopping 40 percent — in spite of a pending lawsuit and a precedent-setting Illinois Supreme Court ruling.

The videos were informative, granted not great but informative none the less! Look at what arbitrator gave sergeants it is less than we have on this contract proposal!

Here is the lieutenants:
http://www.cpdlts.com/tentatively_agreed_provisions_web_version.DOCX

Look at the raise!

Just an example.

I'm voting yes have 28 years on, last 2 arbitration were not good for police, no way will we get better only worse! Going to retire next year many of the dinosaurs are leaving at least the smart ones are if your 55 and able to retire, the best thing you can do is put your papers in. Now before October 1st. The problem could be we won't know if this contract passes or not until after the retirement deadline, and what if yes it's possible it goes to arbitration and the arbitrator does not "have to" give us the same as firemen and they pull the 55 and out off table completely and then you think "wow I could of retired and got it" but I did not!

Thanks also SCC for making this a thread as this is very important topic!!

1. the 2012/2013 raise is gone if you go to arbitration. He may give you money back loaded on the contract so after it expires we are on par with the firemen. The court rule against fop and so did the labor board. Thank Shields but don't let Dougherty and Aguliar of the hook either. DiMaria still says he knows nothing.

2. we will be the only union in the city NOT in the city's wellness program. That alone will save you more in the first year of the contract than the lost OT on overtime.

3. All of our supervisory unions and the firemen gave away 2% on the retire health care. The city got the weakest union - the Sgt.'s - to fold first. When their membership had the brains to vote it down it went to arbitration. And they lost. Why? Maybe they - those who run the Sgt.'s union - wanted the shit contract.

Vote yes we lose little. Vote no and we lose a lot more. Sorry but that is reality. All of the bitching and moaning will not change the above facts.

Question.....What was wrong with putting the 2% from 2012 which we were fucked out of by shields into retro for 2013 making our 2013 raise 4%, 2014 2%, 2015 then would be 2% 2016 2% and put that BS 1% raise into 2017? It still equals 11%. So our 2013 retro up to date would have been based on 4%.
Im not voting for this contract. Putting pension language in it along with contributions for retiree's healthcare is a dangerous precedent for future contracts. Furlough by watch is bullshit also. Now your/my seniority means jack shit in a district.
So you say a arbiter wouldn't give us anything based on 2012? Fine, squeeze the 11% into the formula based above. By the way I didn't see a video talking about pension or retiree healthcare contributions. Why or did I just miss it?

9/13/2014 08:19:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

And conveniently left out of his bullshit videos?

THE FATAL FACT OF GIVING UP OUR ABILITY TO SUE FOR CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATIONS OF OUR PENSIONS!!!

How convenient it is that putting pension bullshit into our contract under the guise of making it look like it's for "our" benefit somehow doesn't make the cut in video?

The FOP and all other unions have acted in concert to fuck over all their members and are now forming a "coalition" on the subject after knowingly giving away your right to sue the city for violating the pension clause.

Use your fucking heads people:

Your union representatives just signed a contract that clearly states if the city (through legislation passed by the state) violates the pension clause by changing the calculation of your benefits by forcing you to pay more for the same benefit, YOU have agreed that you will BARGAIN as reparation for this illegal act.

This means when or even IF your unions attempt to sue on the subject of pension clause violations the city's defense is that YOU'VE ALREADY AGREED YOU WOULD BARGAIN OR SEEK MEDIATION AS YOUR REMEDY!!

Therefore the courts will summarily throw out every case involving the unilateral increase of your pension contributions because you've already agreed to settle the problem OUT OF COURT.

And WHEN that happens the precedent is set that the pension protection clause can be violated "as long as the parties agree it's OK"

What this means legally is:

The pension clause can be violated.

There IS no provision stating "so long as it's agreed" in the constitution. So when the city's argument switches to "who says the parties have to agree" the case will be over. There IS no protection for "if both parties agree to a violation of the constitution:"

When this is ratified, legislation will be sent to the state to increase your contributions to 11% immediately. This will be passed immediately. Your respective reps will then "reopen" the contract as they have agreed to. They will then get fucked by an arbiter.

And the instance of fucking the pension clause and not getting relief will have been established and within the same year you will see pension cuts to current retirees and the loophole created by YOUR unions will be the out they need along with the precedent case law created by it to forever destroy your pensions via constitutional violations of the pension clause.

Congratulate yourselves and your unions. THIS was the only goal of this contract. All else contained within it means nothing.

40% increase to city retiree health care but this is a good contract. Screw that. If Rahm is going to continue to screw over city workers to save the tax payers of Chicago money. The city workers should have the right to choose to live out of the city and not be a city tax payer. Remove the residency rule. City employees are silly puppets to the Chicago Machine. Sickening!

What about staffing , beat cars , wagons down , one man cars on patrol . Unacceptable to have a one man car .
Officers in court on second watch , grease and oil , station assignment and you have 4 one man cars patrolling an entire district .. Commander has more man power in caps office , commanders office doing very little . Not only review , every phony inside job should be by Seniority , not clout . Seniority, we have the 5 year wonders that are working inside , afraid of stret and 25 year senior officers in a beat car .

Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers shot late Friday night, one fatally, were ambushed just outside the police barracks in Blooming Grove, Pennsylvania, Commissioner Frank Noonan told reporters.

Better read it again. City only needs to intend to buy cars. Not actually buy them. If someone complained to the union they should have learned and been advised about safety complaints and filed one. They can't make you drive an unsafe vehicle or illegal vehicle. They would buy new cars or fix it on their own.

Until they spell it all out vote no! Our raise will never be less then fire by an arbitrator. Also the time due was supposed to be figured out last contract and lawsuit. This contract is bullshit.
1) purchasing of vehicles has no place in a labor contract. That is a city issue. We can later lobby the city council to up the number of vehicle purchases as every other day cars are going down with no replacements. If aldermen want calls to be serviced in their wards, they'll make the move.
2) the 2% on healthcare for retirees has no place in this contract either. That is a slippery slope right there that will only increase as time goes on. Pretty soon that 2% will turn into 100%.
3) same thing with duty availability. 4 years? That's fucking bullshit when you are required to take some sort of police action when you see something. That's another slippery slope too. Where did 4 years come from? The 1 year makes sense or 18 months.

Those are some of the more egregious examples I saw. Biggest reasons I'm voting no. At arbitration we will get to keep all the benefits we have now and still get AT LEAST 11% raise. The city cried poor at the last to contract negotiations and the arbitrator even said they can't come into every contract talk like that, especially after giving DePaul and Maggie Daley park so much.

Vote no. We can't do worse but we can't certainly do better in arbitration.

I have read the arbitrators decision from the last contract. One question I don't understand is that an arbitrator is to decide on issues that FOP and the city are at an impasse on......if both parties have agreed on the 11% with retro pay, why would this issue even go before the arbitrator? Is FOP telling us that if the membership votes this down they are no longer in agreement on the 11%? Last contract we asked for almost 20%.....we never agreed to the 16% once offered.....that's why it was decided in arbitration. Letter or no letter an arbitrator is going to see that both parties agreed on 11%.

VOTE NO

9/13/2014 03:24:00 AM

Would have, should have, could have... Shields fucked up and if we go to arbitration we lose both 2% hikes for for the 1st year. Take the deal.

First off any mention of vehicles should be at most a safety committee issue not a contract issue. Hey Rahm if you don't want to purchase vehicles for the dept. Fine with me I get paid anyways. Second you do. to want to be in the wellness program, it's punitive, and designed to take money from you. Basically all an arbitrator is gonna give you is what the CFD got and that is what this contract is. Dont risk wellness program inclusion, cause you miss your points it's $100.00 a month for the yr, so bye bye raise.

i will definitely vote no. where is that weasel shields these days after fucking us all over? everyone should vote no on this contract and let it go to arbitration. we would be giving up way too much to this shady mayor who gives us a crap deal/equipment already. why should we negotiate getting squad cars? that is a necessity to get to emergencies in a timely manner. the murder mayor is still trying to screw us on our pension lets not forget so lets not negotiate with such a corrupt, shady, twinkle toe, ass weasel like rahmie the commie. for gods sake he is raising health insurance on our retirees again so what makes you think he is looking out for us. forget the retro for a minute and lets do whats right here and let it go to arbitration. VOTE NO!!!

Greetings to you, you pencil-necked, weak-kneed coward. Frankly, in my many decades on this Earth, having seen so much, I still find it amazing that there are so many clammy-faced, pinheaded, malignant cancers like you.

What have you gained by posting this pointless rumor?

On a subject about contracts? Are you stupid or just a low-life scumbag?

You are not the police. You are either one of Rahm's foot-licking stooges or a member of the whiny, clueless media.

If God forbid you have a star and blue uniform, be advised that you are not the police. You are a petty, spineless impostor unworthy of notice, even from the rats gnawing at the garbage cans in the alley.

There is a legless, wormlike lizard with tiny eyes that is almost completely blind - called a Blindworm. Whoever you are, where ever you go, that is what people see when they look at you.

How we are deceived by cost of living wage and pension benefit increases.

Hint: The words "Cost Of Living" don't mean what you think they do.

How the Government Deceives us on Inflation, as Rents and Housing Costs Soar

...

Housing accounts for 30% of CPI, and understating inflation in housing will cut overall CPI by a big chunk. Actual inflation in housing costs is still there, but you can’t see it in the official numbers, on the government principle that hidden inflation is the best inflation.

It eats up your bank deposits and your wages and the value of your Treasuries and everything else you own. It pushes you into higher tax brackets though tax brackets are indexed to CPI – the hidden bracket creep.

Any government or corporate programs, pensions, and benefits that are indexed to CPI will gradually become less costly to the government or the corporation, and less valuable to you. The savings to them over time are huge. And best of all, understating inflation overstates “real” economic growth as measured by inflation-adjusted GDP. It’s the perfect solution for economies that are mired down.

Consumers, workers, and taxpayers are getting shafted without knowing about it. And the Fed doesn’t use CPI as inflation gauge for its purposes. It uses PCE, which understates inflation even more (chart). And so it can carry on its scorched-earth monetary policy while loudly proclaiming that inflation is below “target.” Hidden inflation is simply perfect.

The crime is down math used for rent and home prices are shown in the article. Read it. Cost of living raises tied to the BLS indexes are BULLSHIT.

Now scroll down the price list of groceries here in the "city avg." col. and look at the double digit inflation increases and explain how the proposed 'cost of living' increase is gonna enable us to maintain our standard of living

Adios...Illinois tax revenue..

Houston Foods Inc., a fast-food franchisee in Texas, plans to buy about 260 Burger King (BKW) locations owned by Blackstone Group LP (BX)’s Heartland Food Corp. in the Midwest, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

Heartland, based in Downers Grove, Illinois, owns about 330 Burger King locations in eight Midwestern states. Last month, Carrols Restaurant Group Inc., the largest Burger King franchisee, said it was buying 64 of Heartland’s restaurants in Tennessee, Indiana and Illinois for about $18 million. Heartland has reported annual sales of more than $420 million, according to its website.

I'm ok w the 11% but it's the rest of it that I can't stomach and for that reason I vote NO. I will not sacrifice what's been bargained for & in some cases paid for in blood for myself or my future brothers in blue to get what amounts to less than $1200 after taxes in retro for tax year 2012~13. Let it go to arbitration - I'd rather "lose" something than live with giving it away. We complain about what past contracts have "given" away...let's not be the ones who give it away for our future brothers. If we go to an arbitrator we'll get 8-10% but we won't sacrifice the education, duty pay, pension premiums etc. bc those are items that have been bargained for in good faith & can not be changed unless we take Rahms bribes of retro. VOTE NO & let's stand together to tell this Mayor we deserve better.

Prescriptions double in price after 3 retail purchases. Now we have to do everything thru the mail. I have 2 long term prescriptions I need. More B.S. and paperwork to fill out. Thanks Mr. Disability

9/13/2014 12:14:00 AM

Hate to give up anything, but this doesn't seem to be a big deal. After 3 retail purchases its cheaper to go thru the mail order and even easier. Why go monthly when you get three months of medication for less money. A simple phone call, on line or in the mail gives you a three month refill.
If you have 2 long term prescriptions, mail order is better for the above reasons. Why go to Walgreens every month.

How many years does this knucklehead have on the job?

I've had multiple batons swiped that I left in the car working midnights. Tired, forgetful, 1st watch is tough no matter how much sleep you get. Somewhat knew the guy on afternoons, would ask the asshole FTO dinosaur on days if he has it. "No, I never saw it." Back then we shared the same car.

Same thing with my raincoat. It would rain right out of roll call and then stop very early on. By the time you checked off at 8 in the morning, it's sunny and crystal blue skies. You forgot it even fucking rained. Check the trunk, gone. Name engraved on the sticks and marker on coat.

I hate thieves.

I still to this day find officers belongings and turn it in. Post a flyer at roll call. Probably because it seems like I'm the only one who cleans the fucking cars out and finds this shit. Newspapers, ketchup packets, dirty napkins, coffee cups, creamers, pringles containers, cell phone charger, handcuff key, you name it, it's in there- somewhere.

Working hard to give your kid a good safe education , guess what cps thugs got 5 points and preference like the military , sanctuary city .vote no , our union is not protecting us ,
Keep your retro , give us manpower , safety , increase for working nights and week ends . Seniority should be used for all inside assignments .

I am voting NO on the contract.

Here is why>

1. According to the meetings and the videos posted. The overtime on the first year retro was only One Million dollars. For the City not to include all overtime retro is a slap in the hard working officers in this City. The Mayor had his chance to settle and he decided to say UP YOURS !.

2. Seniority has always been something that officers had to earn , now with this furlough by watch it basically says we know you have seniority but for management purposes we want to control the manpower with what we have , and not worry about having to hire more manpower. Furlough by district effected only the management people who had 2nd watch, but furlough by watch effects a higher amount of officers.

3. The current PPO plan has an officer paying out a maximum of 10% , but with this tier system if a officer does not go to a tier one hospital it can cost up to 40% more out of their pocket. To me this is unexpectable.

4. Duty availability taken away from new hires only opens the doors for the City to take away Duty Availability altogether. This is something that we negotiated for in the past , and probably gave something up to get it back then. Now we are willing to allow the city to take away future bargaining tools like Duty Availability. I SAY NO.

4. New cars in contract is a slap to our face, If the City wants to send us out in old broken down cars, let them give the citizens and out of state travelers a bad impression so be it. But better have your fucking hat on at the shooting. Get real, those cars will come regardless if we sign this contract or if it goes to ARBITRATION.

5.Promise time due -- that's all I will say to you
WE ARE SHORT --DENIED, BUT THE CONTRACT SAYS WE . I SAID DENIED.

6. Tuition reimbursement was another thing we negotiated in , don't let them take it without getting something in return.

7. Working furlough a year earlier is nice , but does not help those who have maxed out already . I rather see instead of year earlier , our vacation hours turned into days not hours. Bfd days without burning .5 hours comp. This would be a benefit for all not just the younger officers.

8. Things that haven't gone up are
bfd days
pd days
uniform allowance
why haven't those gone up over the last 9 years.

Make a wise choice and lets fight this together.

STAY SAFE .

I watched the videos and read the summary.

I am voting YES for the contract.

The bottom line is this:

If you vote YES, then you believe that the proposed contract, overall, is BETTER than anything we could get later from arbitration.

If you vote NO, then you believe that somehow, as if by magic, the arbitrator will favor us over the City, and give us wonderful things that, in their totality, will end up being a much better contract for us than what is currently up for a vote.

Our general history with contracts settled by arbitration is NOT GOOD. In arbitration, that first year is legally "dead," so you can kiss the 4-percent of raises for the first year goodbye, and those raises, permanently lost if we go to arbitration, are pensionable and extremely important to our future.

I am voting YES. If you decide to vote no, then you are hoping that the future agreement decided by the arbitrator will be better for us, in the end. I believe that such thinking is pure folly.

Watch the video. What he's saying is real and the truth. We can not go to arbitration. The reason the city doesn't have to pay us OT retro the first year is because they can. It's their right. Our past union fucked up. They have to pay us OT retro after that year because we sent the letter. We are lucky the city is giving us salary retro for the first year. I think the contract is fair. We didn't lose holidays, duty avail, uniform allow, no increase in health, no wellness. Voting yes.

The very fact they are including language about vehicles should make everyone think about voting yes to this.

9/13/2014 01:29:00 AM

Correction, a select few officers will pay 2% for health insurance before 2017 and no one after that. Great that the contract benefits only you. Wish it were the same for everyone. New hires included.

I am voting YES. If you decide to vote no, then you are hoping that the future agreement decided by the arbitrator will be better for us, in the end. I believe that such thinking is pure folly.

What you just said is very true and spot on! There will be no "magic" for us by any arbitrator. We all should know this by now. This is a fair deal and kinda suprising. We will lose our ASS in arbitration. Guaranteed! Watch the video. It's fact.

Does anybody know what is meant by advanced degree? This language must be more specific does this mean masters or phd?

A degree beyond an undergrad degree (bachelors) is an advanced degree. Typically a Masters or PhD; also J.D. (Juris Doctor, law degree), M.D., D.D.S., D.M.D.

To those complaining about the sgt. Union negotiating before FOP, this had to be done because Shields and his crew were more concerned about helping themselves than they were about membership. Not being first to the table, for the first time in history of FOP, was bigger fuck up than retro fuck up. I am shocked that Shields has not has his ass kicked by anyone yet. The amount of damage he did to all of us in 2-plus years is unbelievable.

9/13/2014 08:33:00 AM

Thank you for breaking this down. Unfortunate this is not a full post rather than a sensible comment. Officers need to understand this.

A few quick points why I and everyone I know will be voting NO. This is referencing the literature FLOP posted on their website:

Section 2 - Wages, Section D. "Pension Legislation Reopener":

says the Lodge "can" reopen the Agreement and renegotiate salary, percentage increases and duty availability pay. Doesn't say they "WILL" or that they "HAVE TO". If/when we wind up exceeding 9% of our pay for our pension, watch for them (FLOP) to say something along the lines of "the city ain't gonna budge and it ain't worth fighting/going to arbitration".

THE PENSION IS A STATE ISSUE AND SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN ANYTHING RELATED TO THE CITY / OUR CONTRACT.

Section 3 - Duty Availability Allowance

The fact that they want to keep new hires after 01 Jan 15 from duty availability pay for 3 1/2 years is total bullshit. These kids are the first ones to have to be 'available' for the worst of assignments via reverse seniority. They do the same job we all do, they shouldn't have to lose this perk. PLUS THIS IS PENSIONABLE, SO THIS 'TEMPORARY' LOSS ACTUALLY EQUATES TO MUCH MORE THAN APPROX $10K.

Section 10 - Time Due

States in part: "Accordingly, for officers assigned to District Law Enforcement" and "approval of which shall not be unreasonably denied".

A) This language suggests that people in units and detectives won't have any recourse when denied the use of elective time
B) Define "unreasonably" until the "minimum set percentage" of officers allowed off on any given day is established

Section 11 - Police Department Vehicles

Should have NEVER been a contract proposal since the employer has to provide us with the tools necessary to do our jobs. Says city "intends" to purchase 400 cars by years end and an average of 200 for each additional year of contract. Also says how city and FLOP will form a committee regarding repair, maintainance and mandatory retirement of vehicles.

A) Are there repercussions if they DON'T buy those cars? "Intends" is doublespeak for "NOT mandated".
B) How about ensuring any new cars bought first go to PATROL AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL. NO UNITS, HOUSE MICE OR BOSSES GETTING THE NEW CARS WHILE WE GET HAND-ME-DOWNS.

Oh yeah, the 11 percent over 5 years is an insult. Especially since, by Rahm and Garry's own repeated admission, crime is at record lows across the board (sans agg batts with firearms). You can't justify paying teachers, streets and sanitation folks and every city labor union employee from window washer to painter a higher percentage in wage increases than first responders.

Retirees just got whacked with a 40% increase in medical premiums

That 40% increase is what the city THINKS the increase will be over the next year. If they do not go that high, the retirees are reimbursed the difference by the city. Ask ANY retiree about it.

9/13/2014 05:30:00 PM

As a 7 year retiree I can say you are 100% right about how it works.
Every year the city over estimates to protect themselves and each year I have received a refund. I dont see anything wrong with that because if they under estimate the cost at the end of the year you would be owing them money. If they didnt charge you they would add the difference on to your next years premium. And the BS about the interest the earn is BS to the individual. At current rates interest on say 2000 for the year is chump change, you couldnt buy at cup of coffee.
City has to do it this way because they are self insured and have no way of knowing the yearly cost. If they had an insurance company handling the healthcare the monthly or yearly premium rates would be known.

Hey no it all, we are not in the same insurance (LMCC) because Dougherty kept us out of it, Almost every meeting he would explain that joining the LMCC would be giving up your bargaining rights. Our last contract that went to arbitration the arbitrator ruled that Fop could join but we couldn't be forced. Read about it, its on the Fop website under arbitrations. Dean is trying to scare us into thinking if we went to arbitration we would be forced into this. Not true, its already gone to arbitration.

Remember a few years ago when the city cried the economy was bad and the could not give us a substantial rasie? Well guess what the economy is better now at least that's what's the media says. So where is our real raise? It should be at least 3% a year for five years. For two years we get a whopping 1% increase each year. Seriously that's pathetic

Take a good look at those PPO insurance plans as well tier 1 and tier two, we will be paying more for health insurance without a doubt

But hey our 1% raise will cover it!

Did look at difference between current PPO and Tier 1 with subscriber plan
Individual deductible $350 to $300
Individual out of pocket 1500 to 1000
Family deductible 1050 to 900
Family out of pocket $3000 to $2000
Some things did go down

I watched the videos and read the summary.

I am voting YES for the contract.

The bottom line is this:

If you vote YES, then you believe that the proposed contract, overall, is BETTER than anything we could get later from arbitration.

If you vote NO, then you believe that somehow, as if by magic, the arbitrator will favor us over the City, and give us wonderful things that, in their totality, will end up being a much better contract for us than what is currently up for a vote.

Our general history with contracts settled by arbitration is NOT GOOD. The retro does not make up for the giving up of tuition reimbursement benefits, the having to use mail delivery for long term prescriptions and the 2 percent for retiree health care.

The mail order service is through CVS only and they suck. I used mail order for my 90 day supplies when it was through Walgreens home care, they were fine. Then the city switched to CVS and I had to deal with some cracker in Florida for my prescriptions and they suck.

You have to follow the prescription dispensing rules of Florida. One of my meds is Schedule III Controlled Substance. Florida's rules are different. I can only get one refill per Florida law. Then they demand a new prescription and their fax prescription system is fucked up.

My doctor has to fax the prescription to CVS 4 or 5 times and they claim they didn't get it. I always ended up having to make another appointment, getting a paper prescription and mailing it to Florida. Then they send me letters denying the faxed prescriptions they claim they never received.

It takes at least a month to get a refill with their bullshit system via Florida. CVS sucks, so I go to Walgreens and get it at the prescription window. Fuck CVS.

-----------

THIS is 100% spot on. This alone is why the CONTRACT SHOULD BE VOTED DOWN. This man knows the real rub and all you clowns focused soley on a Goddamned retro check need to snap into reality.

You do realize that all that money is pensionable and will no longer be contributing to your retirement? Don't be so willing to accept what someone tells you doesn't affect you will not.

9/13/2014 03:10:00 PM

Can anyone decipher what in the world this person is trying to say? Obviously no City funds were expended on tuition reimbursement here. If so, a refund should be sought.

The comment had nothing to do with tuition reimbursement, it had to do with duty availability. Duty availability is pensionable because we fought for it, now we're giving up duty availability to those with less than four years leaving even less money headed towards the pension find. Try to follow along.

Check Out Illinois Fop labor Council website. All of the police arbitrations and contract negotiations are getting at least 2 1/2 to 3% a year and retro. Come together and vote no send Rahm a message an arbitrator will give us the raise we deserve. Vote NO!

9/13/2014 12:24:00 PM

*****************

1. What part of the first 4% and retro for that time period are gone if we go to arbitration don't you goofs not understand?

2. If we go to arbitration only about four or five issues will go to him.

I do not like the contract but there is not one issue we will win at arbitration.

A raise in the first year is dead thanks to shields and Dougherty et. al.

B. the 2% for health care is postponed until 6/17. Thank Sgt. Ade and all of the other public safety unions for that. The sergeants lost at arbitration. Find ONE case where the arbitrator over ruled a different decision by another arbitrator.

C. Reopener - first the goofs in Springfield want you to pay 2% each pay day for the pension contribution then we get to reopen the contract and go to arbitration and ask for a 2% raise.

This contract gives us nothing but takes away much. Can someone explain to me how we will lose more if we go to arbitration?
Retire after 2017 pay 2% but the arbitrator will make us pay more or start earlier like 2015?

Duty availability 4.5 years.... the arbitrator will take it away from everybody?

No retro but the remaining raises will be reduced even more? to what? no raise? or 1% a year?

Furlo's by watch? The arbitrator will take away seniority completely? Management gets to choose everything?

These are just questions. They way things are continuing we will have nothing in a decade or less

What you just said is very true and spot on! There will be no "magic" for us by any arbitrator. We all should know this by now. This is a fair deal and kinda suprising. We will lose our ASS in arbitration. Guaranteed! Watch the video. It's fact.

9/13/2014 06:20:00 PM

I agree. Going to arbitration would mean losing 400 new cars city-wide by the end of this year ALONE. With less than four months until I retire, that's a risk I'm not prepared to take.

All i know is that i don't like this contract, it's horrific. I will take the chance with an arbitrator who will have rules to abide by in making the decision. The city is low balling us because it is a negotiating process. I believe we can get more.

Original poster here. My point was that Rahm has money for anything BUT the people that make this city function. Too bad that FOP is in lockstep with 9.5 and selling us all out. Say what you want about Shields, but he tried sounding the alarm of how things really work in this city and he was quickly silenced. Fuck that whole gentlemen's agreement about not negotiating in the press. How hard would it be for Dean and the rest of the worthless hacks on Washington to take out full page ads in the big papers and list the 100s of millions spent or earmarked for pet projects while teachers and first responders continually get shafted contract after contract after contract? It wouldn't be hard at all, but deals have been made no doubt, and those with silver linings sure as hell won't upset the apple cart. Again, not the biggest fan of Shields, but he was right on with taking it to the mayor by having billboards and buses covered with contract/manpower stats. Thats just one of the reasons the old regime got thier marching orders to orchestrate "the letter".

ANyway, NOW"S the time to make a stand and tell that prick Rahm to shove his offering up his ass. We've got a ton more to lose by accepting this contract than by rolling the dice in arbitration.

If the Mayor is on board then it has to be a bad deal. teachers could strike, we cant. we are dangerously short. write no contact cards/anovs/tickets etc .....to hell with your mission teams. I changed my mind. time due should not be denied. hire guys back for district vri if you won't hire the proper force. hold out till mayor doesn't get reelected was my first plan and gut instinct before they came up with this deal. lets hold out and fight. change is near.
