More Red Light Indictments

Heaven forbid they actually shut this thing down completely until all the lawsuits/indictments/crooked contracts are straightened out:
  • The ex-CEO of Redflex Traffic Systems and the former head of Chicago's red light camera program were indicted today on conspiracy charges in an expansion of the federal investigation into an alleged $2 million bribery scheme.

Prosecutors accused the former CEO, Karen Finley, of agreeing to enrich former city manager John Bills in exchange for his help securing the Chicago contract and growing it into the largest red light camera program in the nation. Bills was charged with bribery in a May criminal complaint.

Bills' longtime friend Martin O'Malley, who was hired by Redflex as a Chicago consultant, was also indicted Wednesday on a charge that he served as the bagman for some $2 million in Redflex payments, much of it intended for Bills.
Business as usual, except someone must not have greased the correct palms.

It is a disgrace to have these cameras operating in the city. A sign of the complete corruption that rules us here. It is time for the people to stand up and destroy those things.

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A Chicago judge is dismissing 70 percent of red light camera tickets.

Maybe Rahm will be able to see the class action law suit coming as well as his crooked cameras saw the suckers coming that could be caught by a shortened yellow light.

The court should determine that there was no crime, and should be no time. Simply put, what we have here are City officials working hand in hand with corporate leadership to better serve the people of Chicago and enhance public safety.

There was an article on Yahoo the other day about the 10 most corrupt states, and Illinois was #4. I was shocked we weren't #1.

Screw the red lights. I can't believe the shit coming from the posts about the academy and higher degrees. We know those higher degrees come from schools that the likes of Dean Angelo teach at. I know a Sgt. with a so called Doctorate and he couldn't wipe my ass with his intelligence level. Give me a f-cking break.

My wife received a red light ticket at Milwaukee and Devon for making a right turn on red without stopping. I watched the video. And she was guilty as hell. but I contested the ticket on the grounds that the Mayor blew thur red lights and violated the speed limit many times and got on television and pleaded that he would talk to his Security detail about violating the cameras. He never attempted to pay his tickets and why should I. I also stated that the company that provides the red light camera is under investigation for fraud.I believe that on those grounds the red light ticket should be dismissed. I'm waiting for the response from the hearing. I just want read the response of the allegations I stated. I do expect that a guilty finding will be made and I will have to pay the 100.00.But its worth paying just read the response. I will post the response from the city. This will be one fee to the city I will enjoy paying.

Love this blog! And hate those red light tickets! Going to fight them is a joke having to stand in long lines that never move for over an hour just to get in front of a judge who finds you liable. On Western avenue at Foster going south, there is one of those bastards on every corner, Lawrence, Montrose, Wilson, Irving Park, Addison to Diversey which is where I now quit typing. Driving that street is a guarantee red light violation letter. Thanks SCC for your great blog. You've been around quite a while now. :-) Happy weekend all!

This is a "Crisis" that Rahm will exploit by saying he got rid of this guy. All of this will be blamed on Daley. Sort of the way Obama blames everything on
Bush. How about holding back on naming that New Park after anyone related to Daley?

The Feds will stay away from Byrne, his daughter Carrie is assigned to the FBI. He took care of her as he was leaving, and he is a millionaire already from his various business interests including Body and Fender shops. Do they repair damaged City vehicles?

Think you will be disappointed. You will receive the standard response stating the case was reviewed and there was a finding of guilty. Please remit $100.00 within 21 days.
I hope you weren't seriously expecting the response to address all the issues you mentioned.

When stuff like this comes down it's usually not because someone didn't get a cut but because someone wants to take down someone else.

There's a lot of fighting amongst the automated ticketing companies and I would not be surprised if one of redflex's competitors was the source of the info that got that this snowball rolling.

Get your facts straight and read the fine print on the redlight ticket. Bring the ticket the officer gave you to the hearing and you will not be liable. It's part of the statute. Same in the suburbs too.

Somehow I doubt your story. Especially since it is a valid defense to the Camera Violation that you were issued a Traffic Ticket. See below.

(b) A person charged with violating Section 9-101-020 or Section 9-102-020 may contest the charge through an adjudication by mail or at an administrative hearing limited to one or more of the following applicable grounds with appropriate evidence to support:by...

(2) for violations of Section 9-102-020 that:
(i) the operator of the vehicle was issued a Uniform Traffic Citation for a violation of Section 9-8-020(c) or Section 9-16-030(c);

I avoid the red light cameras by doing ALL my shopping, dining, errands and anything else in the burbs. Go to Park Ridge they don't have vultures waiting for you to exit your car and hit you with a $50.00 fine but just 2 blocks east in Edison Park they are all over on foot and bikes, no wonder Park Ridge is getting busier. Don't forget Niles as well, plus look at the savings in sales tax. It's a win, win for me and the suburb I patronize, it's a revenue looser for the shitty........ Just doing my part.....then For big ticket Items I need to purchase I buy it outside cook county or in Wisconsin or Indiana ...... It's worth the gas money ....
