Forty Again

  • Violence continued to strike the Chicago area this weekend with at least 18 people shot in a little more than 12 hours overnight, bringing the number of people shot since Friday to 40.

Four people, including an 11-year-old girl at a sleepover with friends, have been killed, police said.
Did you know that there are cities in Illinois, across America even, where 40 people don't get shot in a month? It's true. And we've heard there are smaller towns and villages where 40 people don't get shot in a year even, sometimes, many years!

I'm waiting for mcdrunky at his press conference tomorrow to say how the 40 shot is a decrease compared to the 40 shot last weekend. And the sad part is the press will believe it.

We need to get real. The number shot is nothing when you take into consideration the size of the population of Chicago. We are talking one of the five or six most populated cities in the nation. Our per capita crime rate is actually only middling. Chicago is not really as violent as everyone thinks.

Things are not going to change. The citizens finally got the police dept. that they want. No street stops, no traffic stops, and no hassling of the citizens. Hands off. Handle the jobs, do the paper and go home safe without fear of a cr or lawsuit. How are things working out now?.

This is truly a war zone. I can't wait to move to a safer part of this country.

For all those who say it's only certain parts of the city. I say crime is mobile. When it comes to your neighborhood and too the people you know. The only thing you have that the public doesn't is you have a chance to directly stop it before it comes to your hood.

I work as hard as I can each day and I know some days it makes a difference. Until they vote this political group out we must just try to hold ground with crime.

If you look closer, they don't have all these "gun control" laws.

Funny, how all these cities and towns have concealed carry, open carry, and they just don't seem to have the shootings that Chicago has.

Hmmmmmmm.....there might be some correlation on those issues?

Riding the CTA unarmed is crazy - we already know you can get pistol-whipped on it if you don't give your money up to robbers on the train.

Maybe it's time to re-think our City Policies?

If you look at google maps of Englewood, there are tons of vacant lots. How are there so many shootings and drug crime in vacant lots?

I used to live in Englewood when it was nice, blockbusting turned into people burning down their homes just to get out of there in the 1970s.

Sad how not many people know the history of Englewood and how it was once a nice middle class neighborhood with little crime. Very different than today's little Mogadishu.

Yesterday, on the morning news, I believe it was channel 7, a news reporter was on the west side doing her report about a shooting when a CFD battalion chief SUV pulled up behind her and stopped. A CFD supervisor exited the vehicle and was wearing what appeared to be body armor with a patch across the back that said "paramedic". I replayed the video and I'm pretty sure that is what he was wearing. Is this something new with the CFD? Or am I mistaken. Can anyone verify?

I remember while in HS, I played some ceremonies with the Englewood Commandery Band. It was part of a Knights of Columbus-type group with the cool Napoleon Bonaparte hats with all the feathers.

Even back then, (early 1970s) they were holding their ceremonies in Harvey, rather than Englewood.

Sometimes I wonder what happened to all those people and their families - they sure aren't living anywhere near Harvey, let alone Englewood, at this point. The old people have died off, but their kids and grandkids have moved on, that's for sure.

Those neighborhoods are shot - literally and figuratively.

I will save Chicago and the CTA $1,000,000 right now by writing a brief white paper summarizing public transportation in Chicago.

Saving the city time and money so that they do not have to go through a selection process for the right contractor (someone's buddy, nephew or campaign contributor) who would probably charge the city and its taxpayers $1.1 Million for a short Captain Obvious report.

Executive Summary:
Riding the CTA is unsafe and individuals are literally taking their life in their own hands if they step on ANY line of the CTA.

Recommendations:
Immediate change: Everyone should be carrying if they want to establish a higher level of personal safety and security. Guns welcome policy should be enacted.

Long-term change: More police and K-9 dogs should be on EVERY train since those committing crime should be dealt with swiftly and with deadly force.

Now send me my check for $100,000 as the speed and superb accuracy of my white paper should be awarded something for my expedient efforts in reshaping public policy.

The violence will never stop because these low lives refuse to earn an honest living by finding legitimate work. They want to sell dope and fight for drug turf and all the while, everyone around them condones, accepts, and even encourages it for whatever reason. All the money and police in the world will not stop this. This state has poured millions into the "headstart" program for years to give all of these low-income toddlers and pre-schoolers an educational advantage and what are the results? After school programs, youth centers, and all kinds of subsidized services, and for what? There seems to be very few who want better lives for themselves or their kids in these neighborhoods.

The mayor isn't interested in stopping the violence. You can tell by his actions.

Btw, human smuggling can turn you a pretty penny. I hear it's about a $6 billion dollar industry that the Sanctuary City endorses by encouraging unaccompanied illegal immigrants to come across the border.

And the way Obama is waving them in maybe, just maybe the drug cartels will get a huge financial boost that the DOJ can sell them some more weapons.

Follow the money!

These illegal immigrants are paying up to $7,000 dollars a pop I've read to have a coyote run them across the border.

Luis Gutierrez to La Raza: Obama Assured Steps to 'Stop the Deportation of Our People'

On Saturday, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) said President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was a "down payment" to the Hispanic community before more grants of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Speaking at the National Council of La Raza conference in Los Angeles, Gutierrez said that Obama assured him during a White House meeting with Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus last week that he would be as "generous and broad" as he can to "stop the deportation of our people each and every day."

"You gave us a down payment when you freed 600,000 DREAMers from deportation," Gutierrez said. "Now it is time for the president in the United States... [to] free the Mom and Dads of the DREAMers. And to go further. Be broad and expansive and generous."

Gutierrez said giving amnesty to 100,000 illegal immigrants was "not expansive" enough, and he called on Obama to give amnesty to "millions of our undocumented," including the parents of illegal immigrant children.

As Gutierrez noted, nearly 600,000 DREAMers who met various conditions got temporary work permits and amnesty under DACA, which Obama enacted via executive fiat in 2012. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has said no future grants of temporary amnesty should be awarded as a condition for any border bill. There have been nearly 60,000 illegal immigrant children who have unlawfully entered the country since October of last year. And the number of illegal immigrant children from Central America spiked after Obama enacted DACA even though murder rates in Central American nations declined during the period.

Gutierrez said there are 5 million children in the country who are worried that one of their parents will be deported. He said if these illegal immigrant parents are working and are part of their communities, then they should be allowed to stay. He called for visas to be issued to illegal immigrants in the United States and again pressed Obama to "expand" his grants of amnesty.

But if you talk about this you are the one that gets labeled a racist

"La Raza, which in English literally means “the race,” has been linked to other groups in the past such as the Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan (MEChA), which advocate Mexico taking over the American Southwest in a process called “La Reconquista.”

“MEChA and the La Raza movement teach that Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and parts of Washington State make up an area known as ‘Aztlan’ — a fictional ancestral homeland of the Aztecs before Europeans arrived in North America,” reported Human Events. “As such, it belongs to the followers of MEChA. These are all areas America should surrender to ‘La Raza’ once enough immigrants, legal or illegal, enter to claim a majority, as in Los Angeles.

“The current borders of the United States will simply be extinguished.”

And MEChA in particular isn’t shy about its views.

“In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal gringo invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny,” reads the Plan Espiritual de Aztlán (Spiritual Plan of Aztlán in English), which was adopted by MEChA. “Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. … We are a bronze people with a bronze culture. Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we are Aztlan.”

“For the race, everything. Outside the race, nothing.”'

If they vote the way they voted in Mexico and in Central America I think we know what the USA is going to look like moving forward.

Our elected leaders in Illinois and Washington have been lambasting Russia, Iran and Syria about their violence towards their own people and others. They have an array of sanctions imposed and are willing to implement even more.
So, on the home front why have they continually rewarded all the bad behavior and violence with infusions of cash and programs? Killing one another, resisting and fighting the police trying to bring peace.
They should be exploring sanctions to impose on the Englewoods' and other violent environs here in Chicago. Sanction the part time aldermen too.
Too harsh and insensitive?
Then maybe Gov Quinn can come up with another $50 million to create a tranquil southside wonderland.
Remember it's about jobs and education. Chicago has neither. And then there's 55% of my real estate taxes going to public education.

SCC, that's true. We've lived here in our house in the Village of ________ , located in beautiful DuPage County since Feb 15, 1978, and there hasn't been 40 people shot here in all that time: 36 years, 5 Months, and 6 days to be exact.

This low crime stat is in spite of having a Section Eight Apartment Complex on the South end of town. Our Police Department clamped down on any bullshit that was brewing there in the early '90's with drugs & gangs, and the village kept on top of the complex's owner so the place didn't turn into a slum.

Our villages politicians are also pro-Second Amendment (and so is our Police Dept). One long time Trustee and the previous mayor were open about being gun owners and NRA members! Not that that has an effect on crime, but it sure is a nice coincidence. And it does seem like pro gun areas of the USA have less crime than anti-gun areas/cities.

How about the two guys from Tact who were pulled into the office of 1100x and told they were being dumped because they had too many arrests and not enough ANOV's? Innocent children are being gunned down because there is now an end to "policing" in 011 because the guy in charge of the district (1100x not 1100 ) is a paper pusher who believes the only way to "police" is through paperwork. 35th street, you created this mess by giving 1100X a spot here , now enjoy the results!

Yep - I live in one of those small towns in Indiana. The last murder was in 1995 - a couple of drunks got into it over a woman and one stabbed the other. There was a bad apple living next to me, but he was very well aware that he was surrounded by licensed gun owners who knew he was a bad apple and were just waiting for an excuse (myself included). Said bad apple left and moved to the hills of Kentucky so he could marry one of his close relatives and live among his own kind.

Bringing new meaning to a "40."

40
A bottle containing 40 fluid ounces of malt liquor beer. The beer is of low quality and fairly cheap to buy. A bottle can run you usually between 2 and three dollars depending on brand. 40's are popular in a variety of areas and are drunken by many types of people. Gangstas will drink 40's and will sometimes pour out a little of the beer onto the ground for their dead homies. Teenagers also like to drink 40's because it is a fast way to get drunk and all the beer is in one bottle opposed to drinking several smaller 12 ounce bottles and/or cans. Some brands of beer produced in the 40 ounce variety are Clot 45, Olde English, Mickey's, and King Cobra.
"Pass me that 40 motherfucka!"

"I'm gonna pick up some 40's for tonight."

Our per capita crime rate is actually only middling. Chicago is not really as violent as everyone thinks.

You need to get out of the house a little more and when you do, walk with your head up and your eyes open.

Anon @ 1227, compare the percapita rates in neighborhoods such as Austin and Englewood as though they were cities themselves and you will find that it is anything but midline. There are many neighborhoods that are very safe, but others that are meatgrinders. Not to mention that these rates are often based on funny compstat numbers instead of reports, which is still lower than the actual crime rate.

As I go through the City, I see these signs for this or that block organization. An invariable the signs at the start of the block say the same general thing; no drugs, no loud music, can't repair cars in the street, etc.

The one thing they should all say is that it is a requirement for every homeowner on the block to own a firearm. I guarantee you if 10 homeowners fed up with this BS come on their front porches and shoot at these worthless gang bangers and drug dealers who are causing these problems, after the experience of having rounds go over their head, they will shit in their pants and won't come back. Others on this blog might think this is a far fetched dream, but I believe that it has come to this.

Why do that? The democrat mantra is when something does not work, double down on what you are doing. Then increase taxes for more programs and give the teachers a raise as it is " for the children" Higher taxes is just " fairness".

Why don't the Feds arrest and charge rahm for the murders and shootings in this city. Intentional mismanagement of tax dollars and not providing citizens with proper public safety seems more criminal then the epidemic straw purchasing they love to report on the news. Politicians are the worst criminals in this city. Hey media!!! The department is not fully staffed. Compare the police payroll from 1996 until now. Throw in furlos, medical, and admin assignment and you're almost down to the bone. Now check the departments vehicles, detectives, working electronics and you'll really wonder where all the tax dollars are going. Those speed cameras are performing amazingly though. There is still A shit load of pot holes from the winter also. WTF media!!!! Do you work for the citizens of this city or just 51?

What this City needs is curfew laws prohibiting folks 15-55 in certain areas from bein' outside day homes.

No gun ban required.

It IS as bad as everyone says.

After you talk to these offenders, you realize how matter of fact they are about their crimes. I have personally heard from offenders that the decision to rob someone with a gun was simply because they "were bored".

Also, we as chicagoans have a false sense of security because we don't live "in" Englewood, or on the west side. In reality, Englewood is a mere 3 miles from Beverly. Chicago/Pulaski is a mere...maybe...5 miles from 016.

We are all pretty much on top of each other in this shithole city, and the police know that.

Preckwinkle should be taxing it at $10.00/40 oz. to defray emergency room costs, ambulance runs, morgue space, etc.

“It’s about where the guns are coming from, where the law enforcement is, where our neighborhoods and communities are, where are parents are. Where are our investments and what we are doing to make sure that our kids start their education early and right and have the values,” Emanuel said

===============================

Whelp there he goes talking out his Northwestern Univ. academic ass again.

Where's the parents Rahm asks?

They're still down in Mexico and central America.

Where are our investments Rahm asks?

Our investments are in Mexico and central America too. Follow the money.

Obama has the DOJ run guns to drug cartels investing in and inciting the violence across the border.

Then, when the unaccompanied children pay up to $7,000 dollars a kid to a cartel human smugger to flee said violence Obama and Rahm can evoke emotional speeches tool about saving the children from the very crisis that they have created.

The human trafficking money enriches the drug cartels even more so they can buy more guns.

So where are the guns coming from? HA, gee IDK Rahm? hahaha. Who's supporting this, encouraging this operation?

Seems plain as day to me. Chicago's investments are in violence and the drug cartels.

However, Rahm can only follow the money when it comes to the right to bear arms and our personal protection against this violence.

Rahm goes after the banks that provide loans to the legal gun manufactures and conveniently ignores cutting off the money from human trafficking and exploitation of unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors that Obama and Rahm encourage.

Yes, for every action there is a reaction.

Importing poverty,

Importing violence and a drug/gang culture.

Importing poor/no family values. Single parents. No parents.

It doesn't take a Northwestern University degree to figure out but it takes a lot of balls to stand up there in front of the people and play this dumb ass community summit game.

The violence crisis created here has enabled some Fed. grant money that can be channeled via religious organizations to encourage the voters that the change is a-commin. vote for us.. change is right around the next corner and all we need is a little more time.

How many times have we seen this now?

When the election is over the money to the reveruns quickly dries up and it's back to every man for himself for the next four years.

They don't care about the south side. The west side. The middle class churls. They care about their own interest. The TIF money and tax breaks for the corporations that installed them in office.

AbbVie tax revenue is leaving Illinois.

Motorola Mobilty was sold to China they'll be next right after the deal in finalized.

The media is gonna tell us how good it is that these companies are saving. Savings conjure up images of virtue.

Nevertheless, the corporate savings comes at the middle class taxpayers expense because someone has to offset those tax dollars lost.

Detroit, Flint, we right behind you baby.

Play the taxpayers against each other while the pensions and social security are stolen and handed to the one percent at the top. Play the hero like you are trying to save something as it's done.

Hey don't worry crime is down!!! Good thing we only have approximately 10 officers total on all train lines around the city.. If the clowns in public transit unit did anything besides over eat this shit wouldn't be going on. Disband this unit, staff it with special employment a straight time.might saline crazy. But would be much cheaper and LOTS more bang for the buck!

u my friend are a turd who thinks only ur district works hard even when short of manpower.Get off ur high horse . Mass transit only has about 130 po s and 40 of them are either dog handelers, tact or house mouse. That gives u about 90 for all 3 watches.U have about 8 working per day and assigned a DOC area which is usually red south and green south. That is why there are never mass transit available on citywide. Special is now doing the same crap.Cta doing CPD shit on their bill. And if u think po s are working hard on their day off for Special u my friend are high.
Yes the district is a shit place to work especially shorthanded, but bitching about what others are doing makes u sound like a jag.The whole dept has turn to shit. The difference is some places are shitter the others.

If you want to make public transportation safer, it's easy make it more expensive to ride and no free passes. What people don't realize is public transportation used to be privately owned the minute it became a loss they were gonna shut it down. That's when govt. took over and ruined it like everything else. If any business in private world can't turn a profit then let it go and stop bailing out at taxpayers expense.

We looked out for each other, we're a family, but the exodus is coming. 011 is about to lose a lot of experienced officers who have the time to bid out. It'll be a bunch of kids without leadership or direction. I've always loved Fillmore, but 1100x has ruined a once great district which has great officers that are done eating shit

--------------------------------------------
Burning down their homes because of blockbusting? I know Humboldt Park Puerto Ricans don't like that whites - I mean "rich people" are trying to gentrify their neighborhood, but atleast they aren't going all 1970s/1980s Bronx, NY on the place.

The Neighborhood may have been beautiful, But the people sure seem like they weren't, figuratively speaking. I mean, the people still aren't now either. Seems The state Englewood is in is how the neighborhood breeds people.
