Best Sgt Exam Observation

This is genius:
  • 132.1513 is the atomic weight of the clout atom.
We literally couldn't stop laughing at that one.

Can someone explain why the exam was based on a cumulative score of 132.1513?

Does the mayor have something against whole numbers since he is only able to count up to 9.5 on his fingers?

>Cracks Knuckles Like A Concert Pianist<

Elementary algebra...

The constant... That very plausible REAL number which is known only by and zealously guarded by Rahm and those he has has assembled in his voodoo kitchen of fuckery.

>Door swings open. Hot fire, smoke and the stench of brimstone<

Imagine if you will, the constant being the pivot upon which all that is fuckery is balanced upon.

The variables... Those also zealously guarded numbers that are beshat through and through with bullshit by design.

Rahm has ordered the vigorous rubbing of these bullshit variables against the plausible constant which will in the end, yield a bullshit product.

132.1513
The atomic weight of clout.

Each answer wasn't worth 1 point. Some questions were worth more and they made the points to 4 decimal places to avoid massive ties. The total of all the best answers is that number.

Probably a formula to consider test score plus years on as a PO and date of birth. Stop coming up with conspiracy theories already. The actual test was straight from the general orders. Now if anyone had a heads up on the material is a different story. I for one studied my butt off and will make it with zero clout. For the new guys on the job that are reading this, it not all bullshit, you can make it legit. Study like your future depends on it and you will do fine. Control the present and the future will fall into place.

No COLA for recently retired police officers but ...

Poor families use 'supervouchers' to rent in city's priciest buildings

By Alby Gallun July 26, 2014

The high-rise at 500 N. Lake Shore Drive is the second-most expensive in the city, with rents for a one-bedroom apartment approaching $3,000 a month, well beyond the reach of most Chicago residents.

But that's not too much for the Chicago Housing Authority, which has used federal tax dollars to pick up most of the tab for four lucky residents in the year-old building, with its sweeping views of Lake Michigan, a concierge and a dog-grooming center.

It is simple. You have a raw score. You decide on the "proper" racial makeup of perhaps the top 500. You have a demographic spread of "correct" answers and their racial correlation. You adjust the "weight" of each answer so as to establish a "racially unbiased" result. Simple. This process does NOT favor the best candidates. (Before anyone starts decrying my statements as "racist" or "sour grapes", I am Hispanic and in the first class whenever made. I also STUDIED MY ASS OFF. No clout. No LAPA. Just grit.)

As to the whole number thing....we humans like manageable numbers. 1,321,001 is a little big.

To all who studied hard regardless of outcome: Well done! You are a credit to all of us.

The State FOP Conference ended yesterday. There were more retirees representing Lodge 7 then active officers. They elected a retiree to represent us at the State level. The retirees pay $40 per year to belong to Fop. The union pays for their rooms, flights or mileage, meals and a stipend for drinking. We as active officers basically pay for these retirees vacations at these conferences. They bring back nothing to the active members because they no longer work for the department. Many of these guys have been gone for over a decade. What do they know about what our problems are? I was embarrassed to be a member of Lodge 7.

Do merit people have to take both parts of the test now? If true, next to their name on the promotion list should be their sponsor, their score on the test and how many previous merit bumps given to them. Not that they would care, getting promoted without being qualified makes they laugh all the way to the bank.

The City weighted questions based on the demographics of who got them right (actually scaling the question with variable points, I.e., full credit, partial credit for some of the answer correct). Thus they are able to ensure the most racially, ethnically and gender diverse list. This was a City effort, not the test preparers, so don't blame them.

So, let's say very few female blacks got more than 3/5 of an answer correct (there is a possible 5 correct answers to a "list all the things you'd do-type question) they will weight the 3 things the F/B demo got consistently correct more than the 2 things the other groups got right. See, more "balanced" list. The scoring with 4 places to the right of the decimal point accounts for the sublties in scoring.

Sounds like just another way to cheat the numbers. It's bad enough the test answers were "subjective" so they could play with test scores but I guess that wasn't enough to help some of these guys/girls with clout.

It's a shame that they can't do a fair clear cut test for the department. I'm sure a ton of people got screwed and a few lucked out with the grading system being like this. Add/subtract fractions of point values to get there people in. Now I know why there are so many officers angry with the city. They will never do a clear cut multiple choice test like New York, L.A., San Diego, Jacksonville etc. (every large dept in country)

I figure the reason for the odd number is this: let's say the fill in the blanks section is 40% of your total score and there are 275 bullet points, each worth an equal amount. 40 รท 275= .1454545... These numbers are made up as an example but the reason for the multiple decimal points is because each section is weighted as a certain percentage of your overall score.

My guess, and it is just a guess.

The test was graded with partial credit based on the written answers requiring multiple answers. After the curve and questions being thrown out, some kind of mathematics formula was used to calculated the base.

Standardization as they called it in the 87-88 Sgt.s test. They took raw scores and if you were a male white a certain percentage was taken off. If you were only a male, a smaller percentage. IT was done in percentiles and the results reflected it.

Well, I am impressed with the geniuses here! I am 5.something points behind a friend of mine and he is in the 500's. I am in the 1500's.

So before the rank you are on the list goes to your fucking head, 5 points is the difference only between being a sergeant and not being one. 5 points does not measure the difference between genius and imbecile.

Also, with the essays being graded by non-police personnel, who knows what they were given to measure the answers to the essays. Someone might have said the same thing as someone else but used the wrong word.

It is what it is, but these exams are not a measure of brilliance in all cases at all times. There is someone I know who is a completely flighty, yet, she scored in the top 100. How I would like to know, since she can't even write complete sentences!

Good luck to those who will make rank and just as good luck to those who will have to wait for another exam.

Please support the Mathews family and share this message below from Joey W Mathews. Also please attend the meeting to show your support.

Hey guys, kinda looking for a short notice quick favor. I'm a Cicero Firefighter now, but I am the son of a Chicago Police Officer that was killed in the line of duty on May 21, 1988. He was killed down the street from the house we lived in in the Hegewisch neighborhood. All of his killers have been released from prison, the last two were paroled on March 25, 1999. One of those men, Dean Chavez one of the more brutal of the five has since come back to the neighborhood and has been coaching youth baseball in the Hegewisch Babe Ruth League, we were able to have him removed on June 23 of this year by the President of National Babe Ruth Leagues (the local charter there is run by his friends). Dean has been claiming that we are violating his civil rights by having him removed from his position and has gone to the media (nothing has been printed or aired yet, but he is trying).
On July 30 at 7PM the Babe Ruth League is having an open meeting at Steve's Lounge in Hegewisch (13200 S Baltimore Ave, Chicago, IL 60633). Dean is planning on bringing family, friends, players, players parents (the few players/parents that DO support him) to the meeting to show support for him and why he deserves to be a role model to these young kids. My family is hoping to reach as many police and firefighters as would be able to make it to the meeting to show the Babe Ruth League that we will not stand for murderers mentoring young minds, I would also like to pressure the entire Babe Ruth Board to step down due to their gross negligence in keeping Dean in as a coach while having full knowledge of this man's history, especially in the neighborhood that he caused so much harm to. NIFG, if you can help me get the word out, that would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you!

I remember when this happened. I went to school with Anne who was in second or third grade at the time. horrible and i couldn't believe these guys got such light time behind bars. Will try and make it out.

Standardization as they called it in the 87-88 Sgt.s test. They took raw scores and if you were a male white a certain percentage was taken off. If you were only a male, a smaller percentage. IT was done in percentiles and the results reflected it.

7/27/2014 05:39:00 PM<<<

It was 85-87 and White Males were dropped 17% from Raw Score to Standardized on that test so there were two lists at the end. Held up in federal court of course.

No names, employee or SS numbers.

A copper on those lists wrote a motion in the federal court that proposed that the city promote off the Standardized list because you were not going to talk the Harold Washington/Prentiss Marshall legacy out of that. But when they did promote, they would pay the people they passed over on the Raw Score List Sergeant's pay and benefits until they are promoted. They would be paid Out-of Grade so they would not be penalized because they were white and male.

The FOP lawyers wanted no part of that but Judge Prentiss Marshall put that motion in his order that allowed the city to promote.

The copper who made that motion was the last P.O. to be promoted to Sergeant in the first class from that list.

How come all the strange ones always do so well????? Not the best cops but know their shit on paper ?!!!

7/27/2014 03:18:00 PM
Because the test is from the general orders, not from the way things are really done.

7/27/2014 04:51:00 PM

Exactly. If you could figure that prior to the test than you are a flat out retard.

---

I was on the job then and remember that incident. Terrible, I am glad to hear the son is doing good and is keeping the flame alive for his father.

Officer John Matthews, Rest in peace brother.

OT. Was driving eastbound on the Eisenhower at around 8:15 pm last night and at around Kedzie with CPD on scene saw a black male laying face down in one of the lanes with blood pooling around his head but none the less moving and alive. Two empty gym shoes in the next lane to the left and vehicle with damages to front end off to the left.
Any info about this.
Just another good times in the city.

Ok so here is the problem I have with the city and their testing process.... But before I go there, some full disclosure. I took the test, I did terrible. I did not study. I got exactly what I deserve.
That said, would ANYONE who took the test ever go to a college where you take tests all semester and at the end of the semester you are told here is your grade, and no you can't see what you got right and you can't see what you got wrong. Wouldn't it make sense for the city to WANT officers to see their mistakes so they could LEARN FROM THEM? Some, not all, officers would take the opportunity to actually learn something which in turn would make for better officers and a better department overall. Why the process it done this way is completely mind boggling and only leads to more resentment and distrust. To those of you who studied and did well congratulations, for those who studied hard and did poorly.... Well I guess you will never know what you did wrong or how to correct it.

We know plenty junior and we know you'll sell us down the river for a cup of coffee. Hang in there, you'll be better off when you retire because of us.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

After the last class of 90 there were 1189 sgts. The budgeted amount for sgts is 1190. Since mid April only 12sgts retired... 40 sgts a year( in a good year) will retire. The city will not keep the budgeted amount anywhere 1190 so when they are down 150 or so the city will make a class of 50 or 60. I'm estimating that class won't happen for about 3 or 3 1/2 years. There are a lot of very young sgts who will be around for a very long time.

So what are you going to DO about it?

A) Introduce a by-law change?

B) File a lawsuit?

Or

C) Just bitch about it on the blog?

I'm guessing "C"

Why bitch on the blog. Bring it up at the FOP meetings. Dont see how you can sue. Its in the bylaws and they were elected.
Just remember, you guys and girls elected them.
I'm not picking sides but I see on both sides there are good and bad reps. I am retired, but see a few of the retired guys that can do a good job. Just because we are retired doesnt mean we dont understand the problems of the po's on the street. We may actually understand better because we have seen the CPD transition down to where they are now. I also have a son on the job and if I were a rep, which I'm not, my main purpose would be to help him and his fellow active po's, not take care of myself. Just because wqe are retired doesnt mean we don't care about CPD. On the other hand from a few of the reps I see, I might question their motives for being a rep and what their real intentions are. Sorry to rant, but its up to you young guys to elect the best reps,

All of this complaining about retires on the FOP board, sounds like sour grapes, from the guy who was defeated for trustee by a retiree. Yes, you Shrek!
